*cries* i wish i could convince Japanese companies that english titles dont need caps to be compelling.
Why, it's the best. I wish they would also use fullwidth characters.

METAL  GEAR  RISING:  REVENGEANCE

I actually already did the a while ago. I also brought up all the feedback in our production meeting (the heads of every dev section) so everyone on every team learns from this and we can approach PC even smarter in the future. Im not on MGR (only worked on the soundtrack, so it personally kind of sucks to get beat up, but i dont mind too much if it means we get better.

BTW: I dont know a thing about whats up with the region lock, so please ask Konami, as the actual selling part is all on their side. After Max Anarchy, I think everyone knows that we love for people to play our games no matter where they are.

Well then I love you.

I love you so much.

The store sub doubles as a retail sub, so in addition to the game not being available on the AF/BD/BT/etc. stores, those in the listed countries will see this error upon attempting to redeem a key (if they're not using a VPN):

Drive that blade in deep Konami.

I'm just voting NO on this region locking bullshit.

Every big publisher does this, so you may have to resort to more indie games.
Which is fine, I've been disenfranchised by the majority of AAA offerings the last few years.

i don't think anybody has really explained why region locking a digital store front is a good idea

hey jp, think you could shed some light on this at all?

it's actually the first publisher ive seen that does this( locking out their entire catalogue for an entire region). EA did this with dragon age here but they seemed to have removed it recently. R* did this with GTA but according to their support it was due to a request from the authorities here.

Isn't they doing the same region locking bullshit in latest PES?

they are doing it with their whole catalogue. i can't buy any of their games here. i want to buy PES and castlevania but i'm not gonna use a VPN just to play it.

I want to buy it, but I have no idea how it will run.

I'm in the same boat so I'm waiting. I've given publishers enough money on bad ports and as much as I love Platinum I know they're more than likely not going to be able to produce a well optimized PC port. I could be wrong but those requirements make me feel like I'm right.

Oh I forgot about Nixxes. I thought they did a great job on Tomb Raider.

They did. Although Nvidia users had problems with TressFX. I'm eagerly awaiting their PC version of Thief.

BTW, where is Revengeance |OT| ? We are less than week away.

Hey PlatinumGamesJP, I just want to say a big thanks from me to you and the entire Platinum team! I'm glad to see that discussion about >1080p has been shared with those you work with, and am glad it will be taken into further consideration when doing future projects.

If I may suggest a couple of things here, I would love to see one of my favorite games (GOTY 2013 for myself) become an essential part of anyone's library:

1) A post-release patch for >1080p or >60hz support (if not supported already) would be much appreciated (I'm sorry to relist this suggestion).
2) Please add trading cards for MGR if it hasn't been planned yet; the Steam Market goes crazy for them and people are easily attracted to cards. You may see more people get it just because "it has cards" (I've seen it first hand).

Thank you for taking the time to show up in the thread again! :)

Great suggestion. Konami and Platinum also earn revenue for cards sold in the market, so its an even better proposition.

I may be talking out of my ass, but I imagine that since the game allows you to change its internal resolution between a number of values up to 1080p, that it'd be fairly simple to force the resolution to something else by editing whatever saved configuration file there is with a hex editor or even notepad.

Unless it's artificially locked. Then I'unno. That's weird.

Hey, at least Japanese developers are porting more games and getting closer to the target.

Maybe next round they will be locking to 2160p and 120 FPS.

Eventually there will be no locks.

Which, of course, is completely bizzare since it takes more effort to puts these locks in place rather than forego them, but eh...

At least they make fantastic games.

He said on the previous page to ask Konami, but I wouldn't expect an explanation.

ah, my b. I jumped into this current discussion halfway through (even though I preordered on day 1). I've been so hyped for this game for so long...knowing a PC port was coming "soon" caused me to hold off on a console version. Super excited for next week, regardless of resolution :D

As always, it comes down to how agnostic your code is written from the start. It's likely not worth the effort to go back and fix properly or that's what they would have done. Durante's solutions have all been hacks - they are much appreciated, but I'm sure even he would cringe at the thought of intercepting calls to the graphics libraries as an "official" solution.

Your tag couldn't be more accurate, Platinum Games is amazing and I'm glad you're a valued member of our community that listens to us and brings our feedback to those that can do something with it.

JP, I do want to say thanks for interacting as much as you do with us. It's much appreciated despite how it may sometimes seem.

I'd like to know what Konami are playing, it makes literally no sense that the game is restricted in Ireland on Steam. I don't recall their being any issues with the game in Ireland either. The funny thing being I'm just over the border in Northern Ireland (hence in the UK technically) and was able to buy it with no problems.

I'm just incredibly grateful that we're getting a PC port of this game. It's really nice to see Japanese developers embrace the PC, and so wonderfully. Getting a boss rush mode, more options for more powerful computers, it's a dream come true!

I wish more Japanese developers would take notice, and that we could get some more fantastic Platinum games on Steam. I'd double dip on Anarchy Reigns and Bayonetta, for sure.

Let's just hope the casual PC gamer decides to pick this up and support our notion.

Thanks for posting here, JP.

That's really not necessarily true. It's pretty easy to imagine any number of aspects of a console game not being coded in a resolution-independent way (menus, HUD, etc.). It's also easy to imagine it being significantly less work to update these aspects to support a fixed set of resolutions than it would be to make them fully resolution independent.

That's not to say it isn't kind of lame not to do that work, or that it's smart development practice not to be more forward-thinking about how you code these things in the first place -- but it's not hard to imagine how this happens.

Damn. People being condescending towards the actual employees from the company is pretty ridiculous. Voicing your concern about resolution is fine. But when you start throwing negative comments instead of offering constructive criticism, that's a great way to have someone not want to make games for your platform.

People should be happy that games like this are making their way to PC. This is also not a bare bones port like Dark Souls. I don't know if people are talking shit because it's the cool thing to do, but people should see this as a positive turn of events. Instead people are trash talking about the 1080p limit.

This is a huge step forward for a Japanese PC port.

As for my suggestion PG, You should look into this Polish company called QLOC to have PC ports done. They are probably THE best at doing PC ports.

What about Nixxes?

Have they done anything other than Tomb Raider? It was a great port, nonetheless.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution and that was a pretty decent port.

EDIT: It turns out they also did Hitman: Absolution (haven't played it), Kane & Lynch: Dog Days, Lara Croft: The Guardian of Light and the Soul Reavers. All in all excellent track record.

The PS360 Tomb Raider games, Deus Ex Human Revolution and Hitman Absolution.

All great ports, way better than the average. And they're working on Thief now.

Does this game use analog triggers? Been awhile since I played the demo and too lazy to hook my 360 back up. Hoping to play with the Wii U pro pad.

Nope. You hold the left trigger to use blade mode and the right trigger to use ninja run. They're just used as normal buttons.

Ah crap. Have to wait to pre-load. Was going straight to my SSD and not my games-harddrive >.>

Couldn't you just download the game to SSD and then move it to your HDD, when it releases just install to the new HDD and it'll just install from those files. Assuming you have 25GB free on your SSD of course.

Normally i'd do that, but I primarily just use that SSD (only 64 GB, and the OS is most of it) as an OS thing with 1 game on it.

There's only 22GB left and i'll need 25, heh. I do appreciate the helpful suggestion though!

True, but I also cringe at the idea of making anything work for 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 resolutions and not simply make it work for N resolutions. I simply cannot imagine any situation where that is a sound development decision.

Dunno if that twitter campaign asking Sega for more PC ports is still going on, but I think these guys are worth mentioning

http://www.devilsdetails.biz/index.html

They handled the PC ports of Virtua Tennis 4, Sonic Generations, and Binary Domain, so Sega is already familiar with them. I could see them handling PC ports of Bayonetta and Vanquish if Sega is willing to put out the cash and Platinum is alright with letting someone else handle the ports after Bayonetta PS3.

On-topic, Rising is preloaded and I've got my FW900 ready for some 150hz/720p action. Hope the trading cards thing happens. I might actually bother with the foils for once.
