Hey Kagari,
I pre-ordered the Gunmetal PS3 bundle, so no artbook for me. <sadpanda>

When you get a chance to take a look at them can you post like a mini-review or something so I know if it's worth ebaying a copy?

You actually managed to get one? I demand you take pictures of it once it's in your hands!

My only gripe with MGS4 is that it doesn't seem up to age in some respects.

Kojima added features such as skipping, forwarding, rewinding and pausing cutscenes. But ever since MGS3 the gameplay has gotten longer in MGS games, evidently the biggest game in the series being MGS4 now. There is still NO way to skip gameplay sequences for those who are primarily interested in how the story unfolds. The gameplay IS fun, but I think with MGS3 they went a little overboard where at times I'm playing over 20 minutes straight and am only rewarded with a short ass cutscenes.

I think a lot of people would appreciate a feature such as the Demo Theatre being available from the beginning of the game so those who want to can just cut right to the storyline and sit back and watch.

Thoughmaybe it'd just cheapen the experience but I really don't like the idea of more than half the game being spent on gameplay when I'm 90% interested in the storyline only.

I don't know whether or not this is meant to be a parody of people complaining about long cutscenes, but either way it is awesome. :lol

Klone.K is a cool dood. I can't wait to read what he has to say about MGS4's story. :lol

No he is serious. At least he is completely honest about his views, just take it for what it is.

I've gotta ask: do you like and play videogames in general? Is the MGS series the only game you have/will play?

If so, that's cool, although expecting the developers of a game to cater to people who don't like games makes, um, very little sense. Not to mention it's a little odd for someone who doesn't like games to consider the narrative in a videogame the best story they've ever seen (when the medium is notoriously weak in this department).

If you play other games, then I really don't get what your issue is with the gameplay specifically in MGS4; Kojima goes to great lengths to craft the entire experience; skipping the gameplay is neutering his work.

I've been playing games for a decade and a half but became a very casual player the past 5 or so years. I won't touch a game that doesn't at least have a semi decent storyline. (which pretty much nullifies the wii as a console for me) I pretty much only play games for their storylines.

I agree VG stories in general suck, but MGS2 is better than any movie I have ever seen and I'm a huge movie buff and watch movies from every era and genre. MGS2 is what kept me a "gamer" today basically.

Pretty crazy dude. I always play MGS games on Easy mode first just so I can get through the story and watch it unfold and then go back on harder levels to soak in the gameplay. The idea of skipping the gameplay completely is pretty nuts though.

Ironically, that's exactly what Alone in the Dark IV allows you to do. :lol

Now if only Silent Hill allowed for that. I love the storylines but the gameplay is utter shit and I can't torture myself through the savage 15 hours it would take to beat the game. So I resort to youtube on those ones.

Sounds to me like you want a WIN button to automatically beat a part of the game when you are too weak sauce to do so by playing it.

"Fuck this boss is too hard! Oh right, I'll just press my WIN button and pretend I beat it!"

Holy shit that IGN video is some serious gun porn. BTW I had a fucked up dream last night where I was in Snake Eater jungle and was eating snakes.

The other problem with the Fox News piece, which was pretty good, was that they skipped over MGS3 because "it was a prequel".

No, I just really couldn't care less of the gameplay and while in MGS1 and 2 it was fine because the gameplay segments were really short in MGS3 they became too prominent and just plain annoying. I don't want to be doing shit for 20 minutes waiting for the next story scene, I want to be able to enjoy the unfolding storyline all in one fluid narrative.

I'm not saying I want the gameplay gone, but I want an optional Demo Theatre from the start. The increased gameplay in MGS3 really lowered the quality of a game I already had difficulty enjoying the story of. MGS4 seems to go back to MGS2 roots in terms of deep, in depth storytelling but I'm still scared about the gameplay. Estimates range from one half to one third of the game -I hope it's the former.

Except "it all started in 1998 with Metal Gear Solid". Is it just him, or do all Americans pronounce "Mei" like "Mai"?

:lol If I weren't a gamer and I was watching that on TV, I'd be all "WTF is this shit?!"

How dare you?

Anyway, that's not a good piece at all. It's shallow and pedantic.

Cut them some slack, it's Fox News. I'm surprised they even have features like that one.

This time next week I will be holding this game in my hands, actually, the disc possibly spinning around in my PS3 pending that I don't dive off the road on the way home as my nerves will be shot all to hell.

I live VERY close to my Gamestop. It will take me about 3 minutes to get home {Brandon driving home with MGS4 spoilers}
because I will be speeding

Bruce is God among Men.

Anyway..I've decided to go with the LE version. I wasn't going to but since its 79.99 (cheaper than US) I had to do it, its too monumental of an occasion. (Canada being cheaper than US, not thats its MGS4.)

13 more days for me.

I can't imagine the jealousy I'll be feeling once everyone on GAF is playing the game while I'm still left waiting for my copy to ship. I'll probably kill myself.

I'll have mine tomorrow. Impressions will follow.

There is absolutely no art in this "art" book. More text than I expected and a more readable version of the series timeline.

It's nice, it's quality, but I wanted some Shinkawa goodness.

(also we got quite a few extras)

This time next week I should be.. probably getting my game signed by Kojima :D

Or terribly bitter about not getting it autographed.

Here's what someone should do: take a friend, have them get MGS4 and get it signed, and then I send money including about $100 extra for hazard pay and then send me the signed game. yeah.

pathetic, but as a fan I had to try. I would fly up to NYC if I didn't just get a job.

Question for Gamestop employees: I've got a friend who intends to purchase the 80 gig bundle via that Walmart deal. He has the LE reserved and says he's going to trade in the regular edition at Gamestop and just pay off the difference for the LE. Now, he's telling me that Gamestop will offer him $60 for the sealed regular edition of MGS4, in essence, he'll be getting the LE for only $25. I found this to be completely unbelievable but he insists it's true. Can anyone clarify?

the gamestop employee was full of shit, but, there is a way he could do that. he could try to convince the employee that he just bought the game and lost his receipt. if its sealed and shit, and the employee is cool, he will return it for store credit. after all, the game hasnt been out for over 30 days, how could the return policy be up?

BUT the flaw with this plan, is that i doubt the MGS4 box that comes with the bundle will be a regular box. much like motorstorm, the box AND THE GAME will probably say something like "do not resell" or whatever, at least, i think the game had that. i know the box did.

what he can do, is use the gamestop coupons there are right now. not sure how he can get it without an employee giving it to him. he can use the 50% extra coupon to get probably around 52$ in trade in credit, and then the 10% coupon on the LE. that would be a difference of about 25 bucks + tax. which is essentially the same.
