Having trouble on the 2nd boss fight.
Got the Captain to pop out but I was all out of ammo at that point. Now I can't get him to pop out again. Do I keep on shooting at the turret or shoot another part of the tank? Also Are the enemy soldiers that accompany the tank spawn infinitely?

Is that really a spoiler? ^^'
However, I think the actual number varies depending on difficulty. For 2nd question: I don't think it's a matter of "where" but how much (usually 3 or 4 bars). But I start always with the weak spots (each one has two or three). I think the actual damage needed depends on the number of guys you fultoned/killed.

No, getting rid of all the soldiers will get the guard to come out, but I think he might need to be 'encouraged' to come out if he's seen you at some point. If you can see some red barrels on the back, aim for those.

Also, this game is so fucking GOOD. Man, what the hell. Makes me want another Naked Snake game, in HD. I love all the Mother Base tinkering.

Don't think its a spoiler but got a few complaints on the RDR thread about things I posted which I thought were not spoilers.

I'd like to fulton more of those guards but the tank always likes to run them over :/

Hold them up while they're on escort. The tank will just advance and you'll have all the time to fulton them. If you have the sneaking camo you can run up to them even standing and they won't notice. It's a little bit overpowered, actually.

How the hell are you supposed to S Rank any of these missions? :lol It must be a time thing because I'm burning through and still only getting A.

Loving this game so far. Amazing.

What's up with the analyzer? I zoom in but I can't scan the enemy. A few times it randomly starts scanning, but I can't figure out how I am getting it to scan. I've tried all of the button presses I can think of, what's the secret?

for me it was getting closer to the enemy. Or using it when they've been tranq'd so I can decide if I should use a fulton on them or not.

It's based on range. The higher level the analyzer is, the further away it can scan.

You get S-ranks by:

Low time.
No alerts
No kills.

So basically be as stealthy and fast as possible in it.

Also Extra OP 1 == Free EXP gain. :D

>>Can't see anyone using Action<<

I can't see anyone using Shooter or hunter. *snooty huff*

Also Extra Ops 3/Score attack is kinda hard. I got a B rank, but that's because I was shooting for the body instead of headshots. 200 vs 500, with a far-sight on the M16 maybe hitting the paper not giving me the 500 but a 100 for missing the head all the way down the range. Wonder if using a sniper rifle is key to S-ranking that OP.

About to start the second boss.

gonna try really hard to stealth it both for the rank and so that i can have a pristine tank sitting in my garage that doesn't need tons of time to be repaired. can you use the vehicles you acquire for anything besides competitive multiplayer?

Man oh man, this game is one of the best stealth games I've ever played. The mechanics of it are so good, and I don't find myself just killing/tranqing everyone that I come across. If the game's quality remains this good, I say it's easily the best game in the MGS series.

hey is anyone playing this on their tv with that psp cable?

thinking about going down and grabbing it and playing it on my tv.

I tried it. Graphics hold up pretty well on a large screen, but I usually play just on my PSP for the sake of convenience.

How's the story and emotional aspects of the game? Yeah, I know not everyone is a crybaby, but I've always found personal emotional satisfaction in a lot of the MGS games, does this have anything good in that regard? I'm not talking about buying Kleenex along with the game, but I'm still hoping for some emotional resonance like at the end of MGS3. And the story, does it feel like a "full" MGS installment, or more like a side-story?

Nope, too slow. Found using a pistol the best thing, since it allows quicker run (use naked camo btw) and quincker aiming. Go for the head, but don't lose too much either. I think the shooting range ones are the missions I had more trouble with, but A ranked them eventually.

Are they used in competitive multi? AFAIK, they're used only in outer missions for your troops.

Correct. The Versus multi uses the normal weapons/equipment you have available in the normal game.

I guess I haven't gotten far enough to know what Outer Ops is. Don't tell me what it is, I'll find out for myself. :p

The game will explain this to me at some point, right?

That actually how I just beat the 2nd boss:
Draw them into the shed away from tank fire, CQC them when they gang up on you and fulton them quickly. Then shoot out the fuel tanks on the tank, drop grenades below the tank until the captain pops his head out, then RPG him. Mission complete. :) I fultoned 10 in that mission.

Question about fultoned boss patrols:
Are they always more likely to be "extremely hostile" back at base?

Getting a weird Monster Hunter vibe from this, playing with Monster Hunter type controls (the claw!), grinding missions to improve weapons and
capturing monst... mechas
. MH x MGS = my GOTY so far.

I'm pretty sure this is the case, at least it always has been for me.

Is there a way to get thermal goggles in this?

Second question: Which is the best boss to fight to get
head parts for Metal Gear ZEKE
?

Ah, I was using the sneaking suit and Hush Puppy. Guess it's time to bust out the M1911A1 and see how that does with naked.

Oh man that was incredible. Second boss of the game.

Such incredible scope for the PSP. Train cars flipping through the air! God what a boss battle. Took me a couple tries, but I managed to fulton almost the entire unit, and I even tranq'd the commander and captured him as well. Plus the tank was still intact so I got that too! Took a lot of strategizing, but I finally got it using Naked Snake. I also got a code name for favoring CQC and nonlethal takedowns. I'm glad the game noticed! :p

I got a bunch of folks in the brig right now. I guess the more elite soldiers like the tank commander and his escort take a little bit more persuasion than the rest of the soldiers I've captured. This is so cool!

Can someone tell me what the point of the combat unit is? Snake is the only one I'm ever using and he's the only one I ever want to use. So is there any reason I should be investing in the other guys?

Mostly "money". You're going to need it to develop some new weapons and items.
Also, some missions actually require you to play as one of them. And you might even get some particularly good soldiers, in fact (sorry, Snake).
Finally, you can send them out in Outer Ops, but they might get killed.

Okay, so the more quality soldiers you have in your combat unit, the more money you'll get per mission?

Okay, I got it working, crisis partially averted, but...

SONY WHY ARE YOU DOING 12 HOURS OF MAINTENANCE RIGHT AFTER DROPPING THE BIGGEST BOMB OF THE YEAR RATHER THAN ANY TIME IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS?!?!

Worst timing ever.

I guess I'll study Korean some more...
