Sony need to pull their fingers out and get this preload live in the EU, the download speeds alone on PSN are shit that i don't think this 1pm unlock thats rumoured is enough time for it to be finished by midnight smh.

I preordered the game on Steam but it tells me I can't even begin to download it until 1pm EST 9/1. That's some bullshit. Is there any way to get it earlier without getting banned?

Menu gameplay spoiler:
In the loadout menu, you can select your character. I guess this is for online though. In SP there is only Big Boss so far.

Later you will be able to play as recruits in some of the main story mission and not all if I'm not wrong. Also, some recruits will have special abilities like reloading fast, running fast, longer reflex time.etc

One example of why physical is always my preference. Plus it can sometimes arrive early.

We are here just to suffer.

I don't think so, Konami is being a dickbutt regarding Steam. No pre-load and no idea when the game actually unlocks.

I hope you are not asking for piracy. You could proxy yourself to Asia or NZ/Australia. Maybe it unlocks earlier there. Other than that, some stores broke street date for console versions.

Fantastic OT Dawg!

Really looking forward to this.

Less than 12 hours to go and still no working EU pre-load. Fuck you Sony.

How Sony can bungle a major release like this digitally is beyond me.

I don't think the PSN hamster is spinning in its wheel yet to get those servers going.

Almost magically, playing whilst balancing side and main missions, my percentage completion has coincided with my hours played almost exactly.

When I had played 14 hours or so I was 14% complete. Same with 30, now 52, and a few more numbers in-between.

Weird.

Wish there was a manual save option - I spent ages creeping around a base, picking guards off one by one, finally got to the objective in the central building, got spotted and died before I could complete it and now I'm standing 50m outside having to do it all again.

Is this the
Emmerich
mission? The checkpoints at this part seemed pretty poor on stream.

When people talk about how "big" the game is, or how they put in 40 hours and are only at 40% or something, unfortunately this is why. You spend a TON of time doing nothing but going from point A to B. If not a fast travel, then at least they could have grouped missions close together, or at least put some stuff out there instead of barren land.
So there's absolutely nothing to do out there in the open? That's disappointing.
Still, can't wait for the game to unlock!

Played 8 hours. 3% completion. Mother of god...

I think I must be on 10-15 and I'm only on 6% as well. Should get our money's worth.

There's plenty of smaller outposts to mess around with. I haven't found myself travelling too far without bumping into something.

Anyone get an email from best buy saying the in-store pickup has been delayed? I got the regular edition and just received an email saying I won't be able to pick up on August 31st (well, duh). Just an odd email all around, not sure if I should be worried.

It's a sign! You are the chosen one.

Completely not my experience.

You never travel that far before you find a base. In terms of time that's usually not more than 2 minutes at most in my experience. Even then there will be odd groups of guards, wolves or bears etc in the world aside from that. Even then you can always stop and mess with Mother Base to break up the boredom. Or look for plants/diamonds. And even then there are tens of cassette tapes to listen to.

It's fine imo.

Lack of fast travel is going to be a bitch for me.

IIRC you can use cardboard boxes to fast travel somehow, but I heard about that months ago then never again.

Anyone got any more info about that?

There is fast travel dude.

You can just return to the chopper via the menu and then get it to drop you off near your next objective.

You don't need to do this. There is a quicker method.
Pick up the 'invoice' from each place you visit and you can ship yourself in a cardboard box.
You need to have the invoice from the starting point and the destination.

Wait, the time it says on TPP's Steam store page isn't accurate?

Well whatever I guess, I'm more pissed off about no pre-loading. I'm moving tomorrow and not sure if I'll have internet there immediately.

Is it still 5am tomorrow morning UK time (BST) we're expecting/hoping for it to unlock on Steam? Gonna set my alarm so I can set it off downloading asap.

anyone think Ocelot voice is a bit inconsistent? there are more than a few times I got confused when hearing the tapes dialog whether it's Miller or Ocelot, sometimes it's pretty obvious and he sound deeper, but other times he's a bit different and more similar to Miller. . at least Kiefer voice as snake kinda stand out so I always knew it's him talking.

I have noticed this, too. The problem is that sometimes he seems to have been directed to be like MGS1/2 Ocelot, sometimes he's directed to be like MGS3 Ocelot, and sometimes he's directed to be a cowboy.

He swoops into a Southern accent and then out of it into General Gritty American between cassette tapes, cutscenes, radio backup, etc.

Bit of a shame. Baker does a great job aside from that.

Do the subtitles say who's talking when listening to the tapes?

The fuck, it tells me the game unlocks in 1 day and 6 hours.

I appreciate the same release date as consoles on pc (which should be standard tbh) but no midgnight unlock for such a high profile game? No damn pre-load even?

Is that true?

If so, that is fucking mindblowing.

Like absolutely, utterly, staggeringly ingenious game design.

'Fraid not.

Ohh there wasn't really one. So is like the one in GTA?

Can I finish a mission then fast travel to another one just like that? Heli picks me up and takes me there?

There are designated drop off points. Its a bit weird and hard to explain.
You can get picked up after one mission and dropped off near the next.
This requires loading out to a menu.

Or you can use the cardboard box shipping method. It still loads but its faster than going through the menu.

That counter is wrong, the official word is that the game unlocks at 12am EDT. That is, of course, assuming it doesn't unlock in 40 minutes which it DEFINITELY will.
