Hey folks! Quick drop in.

Is it "safe" (by safe I mean: the best possible) to use the "auto sort" staff option in Mother Base? I really don't want to hassle with manually assigning staff to each of the departments but I'm worried is game giving me the "best" staff placement? :/

Are you before or after FOBs?

Doesn't seem safe once you have the Security Team. It seems to just chuck all your guys in Combat Team so you go down to Lvl 0. Security Team.

Otherwise, unless you're trying to beef up one specific department, yeah it seems safe.

So apparently if you play 'Afghan Lullaby' on your iDroid when guards are nearby, they'll fall asleep where they stand. Amazing.

where do I get that? And wasn't that just one of the two possible ways of keeping her? I remember something about not maxingout her loyalty before X mission (don't remember what mission)

you can also do that but that means you don't have to use her much. The mission that triggers it is very late on, so if you use her a lot you will likely to have maxed her bond by than.

Before FOB.

Oh man... I really don't like micromanagement on that level. *sigh*

Fire them.

Fire them all.

Sort by Abilities, get rid of all the Troublemakers.

Troublemakers cancel each other though.
So if you have two on the same area, they won't cause...troubles.

It's safe, from what i can tell
Not ideal (eg. you don't really need anyone in research when you're not actually developing stuff i think) but it's ok. Sometimes you might want to move one or two guys when you'd rather have a higher support or combat level, but otherwise it's ok.

I think you can quite safely skip it. Sometimes I'm in the mood and sometimes I'm not. If you're before FOB, just go ahead and auto-sort.

The only thing it's worth doing occasionally is sorting All Staff by 'Skills', and firing all the ones who are E-E-E-E-E or D-E-E-E-D etc. Periodically clear these guys up so you free up space for better soldiers you encounter as the game progresses. To make this quicker you can press Square/X on Xbox to select multiple guys and fire them all at once. Edit: or see Guess Who's post. You don't need to do this luckily. The game puts worse guys into the Waiting Room.

On the whole it's not hard to avoid the micromanagement.

Man... the depth.

Check if you have it or not. When you get on to the chopper from MB, click square (PS4) and press triangle to go to the zoo platform.

I don't think I do as I mucked around with this. I do know I dont have a guy with the zoologis speciality so maybe I need to extract him first?

You can also assign soldiers with the "Diplomat" skill like Hideo :3

You don't have to do this. If your team is full and you recruit someone better skilled than someone else in the team it'll kick a less-skilled member to the Waiting Room and insert the better one.

My new way to piss off guards. Find a patch long grass lie prone then throw empty magazine. When they get close keep constantly throwing empty magazines at them and laugh as they hit him in head and all over.

I think I might be done all of the Side Ops in Afghanistan? I'm at least at the point where no more show up when I get back to the ACC. I guess more could appear as I progress the story, but hopefully not. They've just become so trivial at this late point in the game.

Wait what. I had no idea about any of this. Gonna need to remedy this. Not gonna let it happen.

So I started a new play through last night after listening to all the tapes
because this game isn't as much fun without Quiet

Yes, I think so.
I found one
in mission 14 and got the zoo. Wasn't sure it was because of that or the # of rescued animals or some particular species i captured in my last mission, but i think you do need a zoologist

Awesome – is the waiting room of infinite size, though? If so, hella yeah.

Yes. If you go into your staff list, sort by skill, and kick out everyone with the troublemaker skill, you'll be great.

Fire them.

Okay, cool. Thanks! I wasn't sure if I should try to balance them with others that have qualities that negate instances of trouble and stuff. Suppose it doesn't matter too much right now anyway.

question regarding mission 11:
i hit quiet a few times with the tranq. figured it'd be interesting to fight her at night, so i used the cigar. and now she's gone. i can't find her. i've ran out in the open for about ten minutes, and she seems to be gone.

is this a bug or is she, like, asleep.

May be a bug. Restart the mission and all is fine I reckon.

edit: might be on top of the pillar
she
begins on. Asleep or something. Try climbing up there.

Damn, mission 23 was so anticlimactic for me.

Eli was asleep when I found him, so I just tranqued him and carried him back to the chopper. Mission over in 5 minutes

Worth playing again and going loud. It's a great fight.

All the missions totally lend themselves to replays.

I had that happen twice. Restart from checkpoint and she should show back up. You shouldn't have to restart the mission.

Yeah it's usually pretty good about maximizing your stats across the board. If you're trying to manually grind up R&D over the others or something, then you need to do manual stuff.

A new MGS is big shakes, Battlesnake.

Oh shucks, my father was Battlesnake. You can call me Shery ;)

But yes. I have the honor of playing with my first great friend I made at age 3. He had cancer then, and I have these vague memories of hanging out and playing games equipped with a mask so I didn't germ him during chemo. Anyway, at 24, we've played every MGS together. This one will be slow and plodding, but we are only playing together. It really is an incredible experience with someone you basically became a human with. He was my next door neighbor and we spend every second together. Truly a gift!

Soldiers will drown in shallow water! You can even see the ripples coming from their mouths as they try to breathe. WOW.

Learned this the hard way when a A+ guard died face down in an inch of water. I have a tendency to shoot guards in the chest or leg rather than a headshot because I can't seem to get the double headshot when the other guards starts freaking out, but it sometimes means they fall asleep in a puddle.

nortonff

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
So guys, I've ordered the game but haven't received it yet.
I was playing Ground Zeroes yesterday to warm up but I find it a little "meh"...not bad, gameplay is really good and the graphics are nice and fluid, but maybe I expected a little more, since it's just taking a few soldiers down and interrogating them.
Should I be worried?

Any opinion GAF?

Hey thanks a lot! Will go extract me a specialist after work!

Mission 23 spoilers:

White Mamba: This might not be one of the more complex and variable missions in the game, but this is at the top of my list of favorite missions so far. Knowing that the kids obviously can't radio in for backup really lets be more aggressive. I was sneaky all the way up to the little drop off the cliff to the clearing in front of the boat. At that point I had quiet perched up on the cliff to the left and had a perfect view of the clearing and all the kids in that area - told her to go ham with her tranq sniper and I stood up and started taking out kids with the rubber bullet SMG making my way towards the boat. Pummeling the kids with rubber bullets was so damn funny to me. It's just so goofy and lightens up this mission that I'm sure Kojima intended to feel a different way. The fight with Eli was pretty cool, and also funny because I'm, again, just pummeling him with rubber bullets while in the background Quiet is just tranq'ing the kids as soon as they wake back up.

Excited to see where this all goes.

Mission 16 spoilers:
What the hell are you supposed to do against skull soldiers? They pretty much destroy me every time we fight lol. Last time I just run away, but now you have to get the truck also. Is there any good strategy against them in general?
