I never used this until now and since I have wormhole extractor now I won't be using it again probably.

Wow, how did I not think of that.

Mission 14 is annoying as fuck, and kind of showing off how awful the checkpoints are. Perfect stealth for 25 minutes while I wait for this dude to get to where he's going, random asshole from a country mile away spots me and then I get shot to death in about half a second.

Yeah that mission is maybe my least favourite in the game, simply because I never got it to work the way that it's 'supposed' to.
I tail the guy, he interrogates the first prisoner. Then he moves to interrogate the next two prisoners, but the interrogation never triggers. Everyone just stands around until one guard unloads his shotgun into the prisoners out of nowhere. The interpreter never moves to the last prisoner. Other times he never arrived to the second interrogation, he turned around and started wandering aimlessly on foot. One of the mission objectives is to listen to all the interrogations so I guess it's possible, but nothing happened even when I managed perfect stealth.

There really is not much of a grind at all. I've just done the last mission and I never had to
repeat anything at all, I did Paz's missions and they basically unlocked each new plot development

The empty world isn't so bothersome once you learn to abusing the return to acc option instead. Honestly it's a problem all open world (though this game doesn't go by your typical open world definition) games have. Even a game like Witcher 3 which has received countless praise for its world has to fill out the map with bandit camps, hidden treasure, etc. because it's impossible to truly fill up an open world with interesting content.

Just noticed something. There isn't a way to just drop anywhere on the main without selecting a mission, is there? I know you don't have to necessarily go on the mission when you do drop down, but still, I wanna tell the game I rather free roam instead of selecting a mission.

Also, as I was writing this post, I was going to Mother Base with
Quiet
as it was
raining
&... ummmm....
yeah
.

I'm now resorting to
just wandering around and having my dog sniff out prisoners and fultoning every single one until Kaz is like "nailed it, sir." Interpreter is just bumbling around at this point.

I'm right there with you. I sensed a burn-out ten hours ago but the game has consistently delivered interesting mission conceits and doles out story beats at just the right pace.

It's the missions that keep you going. Once those stop rolling and you have to grind random shit to finish the game, that's where the burnout really sets in. I'm feeling it right now.

In the beginning of the game, Troy Baker does a fairly decent impression of Patrick Zimmerman's original Ocelot voice, with a bit of gruffness. Then later on that goes away and he speaks in a normal voice with some Texas twang. It's sloppy, but I blame the director more than the actor. The director should have caught it in the booth.

It's literally Kojima's fault :p

Baker came in and did a really good Zimmerman impression. Then at some point, Kojima told Baker to stop doing an impression and just do his Joel voice. And that was that.

Free roam is in the missions list. Just press r1.

Fools are always so certain of themselves, but wiser men so full of doubts.
So I've dropped in multiple times with Free Roam but have never got the Return to ACC option to show up in the idroid.

Fuck?

Questions:

What's the best way to farm heroism? (any mission is fine since I beat the game)

Does anyone have a location sheet on where all the cassette tapes and animals can be found?

Any way to get more fuel resources? I'm way under on them and I can't connect online to invade other bases.

You should see the Spoiler Thread. Seldom seen so much hate for various things. From hating Witcher 3 to hating Troy Baker to hating MGS 4 to hating MGSV to hating MGS2 to hating Kojima to hating Konami to hating snake_eater_raiden's patronizing attitude.

There is literally a mission deployment tab labelled "Free Roam" lol.

Regarding Troy Baker's Ocelot - he sounds like a guy trying to sound like John Wayne. Which makes sense to me as maybe it's what Ocelot should have sounded like all along.

You think a bland and lifeless open world along with repetitive missions is fucking superb?

dat hyperbole

I'm still waiting to get to the point where I turn into one of the people who just come in here to relentlessly shit on the game. But I'm well into the 40s on story missions and that hasn't happened yet. Haven't had any trouble progressing/unlocking either.

yeah that's how I did it too, outside of the extreme version of 29 which I did for fun. The grind would really get to me if it was like Peace Walker with mega bullet sponge co-op bosses but I haven't had much trouble so far just making do with what I have.

It's not that I hate grinding, it's just the time gating on resource processing and the fact that because I'm playing offline (servers been awful on PC almost every time I connect) I'm gimped regarding staff space and resource generation. If I really cared though I'd fire up a trainer.

Side Op 114 ended up being surprisingly hard.
Eliminate the Tank Mission 01. Their strategic positioning was extremely tight to the point where I actually couldn't get to the other side without getting caught.

Make sure you do the deployment missions. S ranks will give you around 1600 heroism (or was it 2000) and mission 29 is a quick one to farm and has soldiers with good stats at the end.

If there's no fuel in the world it's because you've used it and it needs time to repopulate back in the world. There are usually red containers at the military base, the airport, the mine,
OKB Zero
and the oil field.

oh wow... now that is a CE item. That looks awesome dude.

Did the iDROID come with it too? if you get the OST you should share that with me.

I got the iDroid last year, it's the main reason why I had to get the Japanese CE too since both items are 1:1. I got the OST and Vocal tracks on iTunes already :>

Try
Fultoning the prisoners before they're executed. You'll get info about the mission target out of them

I tried that but I just fell off :(

You have to hold Y or Triangle after you fulton to grab the fulton cord. It also doesn't work in mother base, only out on the field. It's great I use it all the time. Love it when a I finish a mission with a million guards shooting at me then I notice a shipping container and I'm like "Cya later fellas".

Regarding ocelot... I honestly think there is more than meets the eye. Yes he does have a different accent but I wouldn't be surprised if it's an act. No spoilers btw... I'm only 10hrs in.

Here's the quick and dirty way of how I did it:

So after the interpreter gets done with the 1st guy, he'll move to a little half-house with a bunch of other guards and a prisoner.
Toss a Smoke Grenade or two, CQC/Neutralize them all, and Fulton them out.
Miller/Ocelot get pissed at you, but they interrogate the Interpreter to find out where they'll interrogate the Viscount at Night.

So...you can use the Phantom Cigar to speed up time until late night (like midnight?), at which point a solider will be escorting him down the road to the building.
Pop the guy, and get the Viscount and that's it. Just don't do what I did and stick too close since I accidentally triggered an Alert with the Cigar.

It really is just a difference in direction. Kojima told him to sound like Joel.

wait a minute. I have only poked my head in this thread a couple of times, but are you telling me we can return straight to ACC when doing side ops rather than have to helicopter out?

Once you hit a checkpoint (which you always do at the end of a side op), yes.

Yup. Loads you straight into your ACC. Makes things much faster and doesn't cost GMP.

Repetitive? I don't know if I can agree with that. Most of the missions have been pretty varied. But it's clear that people prefer/dislike the game for different reasons. Gameplay takes a massive priority for me and in that regard, MGSV is tied with 3 as my favorite.

Missions are varied!? Please tell me that is a joke.

The objectives of 95% of all missions is to either kill someone, extract someone or blow something up. It gets boring and repetitive quickly.

What is the point of hiding the camo index? It's obviously still there, it just doesn't surface the numbers. Brilliant stuff.

I thought I'd love using all the camo, until I figured out that you're loud as fuck in everything except the sneaking suit. I've never used anything else. I feel kinda bad because I wanted to go the MGS3 route, but changing camos to fit the surrounding doesn't make sense anyway given the gameplay. Going prone makes you basically invisible no matter what. So being a quiet mofo is way more practical.

That's just what my friend said. We might want to get someone else's opinion. He said blood stays on your clothes longer and
your horn gets larger
. Again, no idea if there's any truth there, but between the gong sound and Son Of Sparda not being able to get the blood off, I would assume it's true.
There are various actions which will make you less of a "demon" so to speak.
I don't know what I did but thankfully the blood suddenly got cleaned. I'm never stabbing anyone again.

@VindictiveGnome
Yeah I noticed the
horn getting bigger
as well.

The camo index became redundant with MGS4 where your suit changes to match the surface you are on. Why even have the mechanic there at that point? The index is unnecessary to convey your visibility for stances and in light/darkness.

After close to 50 hours I'm still finding new ways to beat missions.

I'm just googling where the
prisoner______
is in M14. This is awful. Spent a full god damn (in game) day
following that idiot around.

Woo! I finished Chapter 1, The fight with
Sehalanthropus was messy. I lost money doing that mission. There has to be an easy way to fight it.

Also, the spoiler I saw on the toy is definitely what I expected to happen.

Yes... and?

The mission areas are pretty varied along with the encounters. What does it matter to me if the goals that you conduct in the areas are from a pool? That's not how I define variety.

Pretty much anything, in any game (or MGS game) can be reduced to such a simple set of goals if you want. Go here, watch a cutscene etc.
