Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Quiet's "cover me" command turns almost any mission into easy mode.

Hell, Quiet's "cover me" in general makes the game easy mode. You can do side-ops and just have her distract them to the point of you choking the hell out of the back-turned enemies. Only problem is vehicles, but well... you can stop those yourself.

I just researched Diamond Walker's mark mode, I should see how good that is in regards to marking the world.

Okay, serious question. How the hell do you make Big Boss stink? I must've used the Phantom Cigar like 8 times in the dumpster & nothing.

Do a bunch of missions. It's not really Cigar-able. It's time played and never going back to Mother Base in that time frame.

I love Quiet covering me on side ops. I'm into the 100s of these things - easy mode is A-OK with me.

The fulton makes fights against armored vehicles way too easy. Why blow them up when you can just run up to them and fulton them?

Ok. I have ever mission unlocked BUT Mission 45. Can someone confirm?

Apparently I need to max Quiets link? What is the fastest/best way to do this? I need to fill in 3 more shields.

Mission 16...that shit was nuts.

Took me the better part of two hours. Waited to ambush the truck, but it never showed up anyplace, so I check the airport...of course, it's there with two tanks and quite a few guards.

So after multiple failed attempts, finally got the truck away from the airport, fultoned the truck and called in D-Walker and fucked up the Skulls with its minigun...that thing chews through 'em pretty fast.

On one attempt, I got in one of the tanks to take them out, but then the camera went into first-person and I got stuck on something and pretty much couldn't see shit. Died sometimes afterwards. I was sad. :(

Keep doing side ops.

For vehicles don't hold R1 to switch views, just tap it, this gives you a much better "over the shoulder" aiming mode.

Oh yeah, anyone who's expecting the Intercept Head Upgrade for Buddy
D-Walker
to actually make it good will be sorely disappointed.

It only
fires it's sub weapon at enemies in a cone infront of it.

It also doesn't move, and it won't turn around if enemies are shooting at it from behind. Such a terrible upgrade. Here I was thinking he would move around and use all of his weapons and CQC, only to find out he does fuck all.

:( I love this character, and I don't want her to die, but it would feel wrong to prolong it.

I have the Butterfly emblem on now (at mission 39 currently), but I just might take it off when I feel it's right.

PC mods to negate the inevitable are already available

Holy crap. Mission 21 is the most brilliantly designed hitman level ever.
I noticed on like my 4th playthrough that if you let the two targets mill about for a while they headed to a truck so I looked everywhere for the truck and found it in a hangar bay. Didn't know for sure it was the one but I chilled in there for like 10 mins listening to tapes including some love will tear us apart and suddenly a dude in a suit is right next to me. Jackpot. We drive until we get in an open road and pop both in the head with a stun gun. Extract both and high tail it out of there
. Ultimate hit.

The game is simply sensational. Best I've played in a long time.

Sounds awesome!

The problem is, she stops being "fucking broken" as soon as you start hitting fully geared up enemies. She'll still be useful to pull aggro, but she won't be clearing bases quick enough if there are many enemies (and there WILL be a point where there is too many enemies even for her) and/or they know where she is and she can't flank/move to where she's hit out to the MedBay.

is there an easy way to find mines? I have been walking around in the mine area for this one side ops with NVG's on and cant seem to find the last one. Does the sonar arm make them show up?

I know. After that one. I don't remember what door it was. It could be this locked door I ran into.

Well there is only one door on that platform you can go into. It's on the third level.

Sinful butterfly really doesn't care about armour. it rips everything to shreds.

Can I visit
Paz
any time after the initial cutscene? I can't seem to find the door...

Yes. You pretty much need to to do that quest anyway.

Third floor. From the practice target shooting. You'll know it by the blue.

Diamond Dog makes those side-ops Easy. Ocelot even flat out tells you "I trained him to sniff out mines and medical plants as well."

She'll literally take out whole outposts by herself. When I'm just fooling around in the open-world I tend to forget to turn off her 'Cover me' command, so I send her ahead to the next place and before I've even got there my iDroid says "OUTPOST CAPTURED" :p

I just finished Chapter 1. Some of this might be answered in tapes, but I haven't listened yet.

So, if I'm to understand correctly,
Psycho Mantis was controlling Sahelanthropus on behalf of Liquid? Or was he possessing Liquid to allow him to do it? Why did no one question how it was moving? Why does no one question the floating kid in the gas mask?

The Sahelanthropus fight was awful. Way too many 1 hit kills and way too long of a fight. The reflex mode kill was especially heinous, because you're expected to quickly switch to an automatic when you've been using rockets the whole time. Very unintuitive. The fight took me like 15 tries. Maybe it's not too bad that the final mission with another Sahelanthropus fight was cut.

The English parasite containers. 1 in fire, 1 with Mantis and Liquid, 1 unaccounted for? Do I have that right?

Skullface was a really lame villain with nonsensical motivations. Genocide because he doesn't like the English language? Really? I loved his death scene though with Big Boss shooting off his limbs for Miller.

When did Miller go blind? He could see when he was rescued, couldn't he?

Do we have any word on when servers will be working?

I still can't upload my ground zeroes save on Xbox One for TPP. =(

The only thing in my game so far that managed to take out Quiet were
the skull sniper ladies
. Others just force her to move from place to place so, I can leave her to do her thing.

If there are enough enemies, they're mortar the hell out of her position(s) if you don't do some of the work in thinning some of the numbers out for her.

What's hilarious is if she's "on move" and an enemy is in her line of movement, they'll get auto-stunned by being knocked down by her.

You just do a lot of missions without showering I think. You'll notice flies start to buzz around him. It takes awhile, though. I was doing it, unintentionally, and I was well into the game before I got the stink scene at MB.

Disregarding the implications on The Boss' psyche. It was just a troll/Red herring

Goddamn Miller and his hamburgers... Wait, wasn't Master Miller's first name something like Mcdon-nope, never mined, not going down that rabbit hole.

Anyway, these tapes are great. Almost don't miss codecs at all now... Almost...

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I continue to play MGS the way I've always played, which I'm sure is boring to watch: all sneak, only use tranq pistol, fulton everything I tranq.

But hey, it's getting me A's and S's when the mission is designed for it, so I'm cool with that. :D

Got this from the
Afrikaans Interpreter
mission yesterday.

I'm going to put that mission up on Youtube tonight actually, because I thought it went super well.

How important is it to pay attention to staff member specialist skills? A lot of them seem pretty basic/useless outside of the ones that allow you to develop new items. Is there more to this than meets the eye?

Supposedly if you use some tape that is basically a 'toilet recording' while in a porta-potty soldiers will not check inside either. I found the tape but haven't set up a situation to try it yet. Heh.

I actually was doing REALLY well on my first try.
Utilized some of the tanks and armored vehicles in the area along with D Walker to take it down to like 15% health with little trouble. Then I was rolling down a hill in a tank firing at it hoping to finish it off.
The screen starts to grey out. "BIG BOSS YOU ARE LEAVING THE MISSION AREA." Before I could even stop it's momentum or jump out I had left the zone and failed the mission. I just rage quit there and went to play some Galak-Z to calm down a bit.

OPEN WORLD MOTHERFUCKER DO YOU SPEAK IT!?
Why doesn't that make sense? It shows it to you on the map and in the missions briefings..mission areas have always been an open world thing, for good reason, since memory isn't where it needs to be for you to wander to one end of the map then return and everything still be exactly as it was rendered before.. free roam and side ops are the only things without restrictions.

Used reflex and didn't get Perfect Stealth? Disgusting.

Is it worth losing
Quiet
to get the true ending, I'm just afraid to lose her because I still want to go back and redo some missions :(

Mission 30 doesn't seem very great. It's essentially death if anyone spots you. At least the checkpoints seem generous.

I'd be in the dick
I need some help with Episode 29. Having a lot of trouble and I feel like I'm missing something.
I know to hit R2 to counter the Skulls' knife attack but what should I do after that. Nothing does much damage, even rockets, and I don't have enough ammo to deal with more than two. It seems like I'm missing the follow up to the counter.
