Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Mission 30 doesn't seem very great. It's essentially death if anyone spots you. At least the checkpoints seem generous.

Or you can just
Sneak through the first gate, jump in the tank parked right inside and drive all the way up to the stairs shooting the walker gears in about 2mins and get an S rank

I need some help with Episode 29. Having a lot of trouble and I feel like I'm missing something.
I know to hit R2 to counter the Skulls' knife attack but what should I do after that. Nothing does much damage, even rockets, and I don't have enough ammo to deal with more than two. It seems like I'm missing the follow up to the counter.

As you exit the cutscene,
run to your right and climb the ladder..they can't climb ladders and will rarely teleport up there, can take your time and just dodge rocks.

I just finished Chapter 1. Some of this might be answered in tapes, but I haven't listened yet.

So, if I'm to understand correctly,
Psycho Mantis was controlling Sahelanthropus on behalf of Liquid? Or was he possessing Liquid to allow him to do it? Why did no one question how it was moving? Why does no one question the floating kid in the gas mask?

The Sahelanthropus fight was awful. Way too many 1 hit kills and way too long of a fight. The reflex mode kill was especially heinous, because you're expected to quickly switch to an automatic when you've been using rockets the whole time. Very unintuitive. The fight took me like 15 tries. Maybe it's not too bad that the final mission with another Sahelanthropus fight was cut.

The English parasite containers. 1 in fire, 1 with Mantis and Liquid, 1 unaccounted for? Do I have that right?

Skullface was a really lame villain with nonsensical motivations. Genocide because he doesn't like the English language? Really? I loved his death scene though with Big Boss shooting off his limbs for Miller.

When did Miller go blind? He could see when he was rescued, couldn't he?

The fight with Sahelanthropus was so disappointing. That thing was so frightening until I fought it and killed it with the first try. Just ran to the missile truck and he was down in about 5mins or so. :(

So, I feel like I was missing something with
Eli's fight. I just kind of stood there and countered his attacks twice and it was over. I mean...what? Was that the whole thing. I mean, I get that he's only a kid, but I expected something more with the way the scene was set up I guess....

Went ahead and spoiler tagged that. Probably no need at this point, but just in case.

So I'm on mission 18 and everything was going very smoothly until
I had to escort the child soldiers. Maybe it's just me but escort missions are never fun and this ruined the mission for me. I don't want to fight enemies while trying to keep these kids safe.
I'll try again tomorrow and see if things go smoother.

Just use D walker and shred them with the gatling gun, just watch out for
the mist

I continue to play MGS the way I've always played, which I'm sure is boring to watch: all sneak, only use tranq pistol, fulton everything I tranq.

But hey, it's getting me A's and S's when the mission is designed for it, so I'm cool with that. :D

Got this from the
Afrikaans Interpreter
mission yesterday.

I'm going to put that mission up on Youtube tonight actually, because I thought it went super well.

Got an S on that one in like 20 including no relfex perfect stealth and etc.

I fultoned some guys quick and got up to the interrogation area before the one prisoner made it up there. Threw a smoke in the middle of the group of 8 guys and then tranqued the ones with masks on. Ran into the smoke and cqced everyone else. Sent 12 people into the sky in seconds. Base was pretty much empty so I grabbed the Intel after sending the prisoners home and ran towards the Viscount. He was still being slowly walked to the base so I got his guard tranqued and sent them both to the sky.

I countered them and after that you can shoot their shield down. After their shield was vanished I gave them some rockets and the fight is over. Took me quite some tries but when I figured that tactic out it was almost too easy.

Was doing mission 30 and got spotted so I ducked into a building, only for a whole squad of reinforcements to spawn right in the same room and destroy me with shotguns. First time I've seen anything actually spawn into the world like that. Lucky for me there was a checkpoint about two minutes beforehand. Was able to upload a clip of it, no spoilers in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7m3O-Gc7pA

S rank guys are showing up now after 200k heroism. Also be sure to upgrade your int scope so that it can analyze S++ guys.

Just finished this myself. First tough mission in the game for me, and only because of the later part you mention.

Story mission tactics spoiler, but not overall story spoiler
I don't mind the escort and the cutscene before had me on the edge of my seat. What became an issue was the enemies that trigger to follow behind you. The kids AI seems to stop and pause at pre-determined spots even when they are in "Go" mode so outrunning the guys behind isn't really an option. Even the chopper is ok but the guys that come from behind made it annoying.

Given the general gaming history of escort mission frustration, I wish they had taken the design a bit safer. Just eliminating that following-wave of enemies would have done wonders.

Still somehow managed to get an S-rank on it.
The dog is so OP. Feels like I'm using cheats. Think I'm gonna ditch him and try the robot thing
Dog is ok. I feel like his enemy tags clutter the screen and have me worrying about enemies I don't need to worry about yet. I feel like I'm pretty good about scouting for myself but he does speed up the process a bit.

Quiet is ok too. She doesn't put as many tags on screen usually (they have to be in her line of sight I assume, seems like building can block her sight just as much as yours) but I don't like that she takes it upon herself to start shooting when combat mode starts. Just makes the alert worse and take longer than if I hide. She also ends up killing guys I wanted to fulton. Also makes her way overpowered as she can take out guys too fast.

D-Walker is my favorite because he moves fast. Pretty much all I use him for. I have the most fun doing things on my own.

Steelbook copy I won arrived :D

It's just the steelbook with a promo copy disk inside lol. Thanks scummy Konami <3

I'll rebuy the game when it's like $15-20 to have a proper disk.

This thread becomes more and more of a spoiler minefield every day. Two separate story spoilers without opening a single spoiler tag.

Guess it's time to leave.

I average S ranks 1 out of 2 outposts at 370k Heroism.

I never see S++ ranks anywhere except from volunteers from end missions I guess?

Mission 18 was tense, I S-ranked it on the first try because of the circumstances, it made me be more deliberate.

Kojima you magnificent bastard.

End game questions

are there really only 50 missions or am I missing something? I stopped the infection and quiet left. Still have a couple Extreme missions left to do.

I think I just did Mission
41
and nothing is popping for me despite having nothing yellow. Up to now I've had one or two yellow things to do.

Every once in a while a yellow dot shows up
near the battle tank hangar, but it doesn't seem to trigger anything when i walk in. and I can hear the boss's voice from the AI pod inside the R&D base, but I can't seem to get inside. Is that something I can interact with?

Is there anything worth doing while at Mother Base? All the soldiers there salute you and you can't seem to go into doors. The only thing i've found is side ops of target practice.

Yeah, have to replay those extreme missions. Kind of a grind, but I'm trying to complete the mission tasks as well.

Honestly, the Quiet bug really needs a thread of its own, and stickied. Potentially game breaking and corrupts your save file? Definitely need to know NOT to use her for missions 29 or 42. I've been using her almost exclusively and am 2 missions from there. Thank god I haven't played today. Needed a break

Anyway, here's the GI article

I gotta warn my friends

Konami warms you about this bug before you even begin playing the game, and it has been posted by a lot of people here already.

I had the most difficult time trying to extract the
honey bee
because I could not not get caught once I entered the fortress/ruins.

I am starting to realize that stealth is not always the most viable option.

Where? Don't tell me it's in one of those screens when you first launch the game?

They're so annoying, I just click next on all of them without reading them. I think the majority of players are doing the same.

M16 was fun to fuck around with the first billion attempts but it's getting pretty old. There's no way to stealth this mission whatsoever, you just have to derp and get lucky. It's so stupid.

A little help please... So I fought
Quiet
around mission 9 or 10 I think...
and I haven't been able to get her as a buddy. I'm on mission 18 now and I have not seen her in the medical prison. I shot her with a machine gun to beat her so I don't know if that matters.
any help would be appreciated!

Sure, we don't read the updates, it's still kind of on us though :x

She's not in the medical bay? Check the 'brig' tab under the staff management option. She usually joins your party after mission 21 and above afaik.

Dumb question, but to progress to the end of the game, how many side ops should I need to keep my mother base properly developing?

I'm currently on Mission 17, and I've only finished 9 side ops.

I'm definitely a methodical/stealth/non-lethal player but I think on a first playthrough the best strategy is to just willing to be flexible if the need arrives.
