I can't wear the bandana. I thought I could but it just doesn't look right on Big Boss anymore. His horn, eye patch, awesome hair etc. flow together well that the bandana ruins his look completely.

I just started playing (well, I played 5h straight lol) and so far the whole game is pretty overwhelming in terms of mechanics and meta stuff. But I'll eventually get the hang of it. I'm just curious, what does this locked character symbol in motherbase management mean?

Kinda like the resource gathering stuff btw, scratches by MH itch haha. I hope there's a flower camouflage at a later point that I'll wear on gathering tours :^)

Mission 31 is AWFUL. It's not even an issue of
one hit kills or anything like that, it's just.... WHY is this fight so long? My best rocket launcher takes MAYBE 1% of his health off
. It's an idiotic waste of time....

It means that soldier is locked to a particular team (R&D, Combat, Medical etc...) It just prevents the auto management (R3 on ps4) from moving people around.

You can lock any soldier by hitting L2 (I think) on PS4.

Shoot the weak points for massive damage?

Aim for the belly when he pulls out his sword. It's a weak point. Also, the 4 cylinders on his back take out a decent chunk of health when destroyed.

The variety is nice, but as somebody who plays stealthily and non-lethally, having 6 SMG's doesn't do anything for me. Now, I wouldn't have a problem if there were missions where you had to do damage to non-living things, so having a huge arsenal is a boon, but that's not the case in Phantom Pain. I guess part of the problem is balance, and part of it is not having boss battles/mini boss battles.

And as someone who plays lethally the arsenal of stun guns does nothing for me. But that's fine. Because the game game has the arsenal to suit pretty much every single possible play style under the sun. That's a good thing.

Yes. But still it's like, compare this to the
Rex
battle.

Mission 31 spoilers / complaint fest:
It's just so BADLY designed. "Find something tall to hide behind" - but there is nothing around! Just the same cove that's in all the normal levels. Tons of annoying knockdown abilities that barely do any damage. I'd rather have a boss with less health that does more damage, and fight him in an environment that was actually designed for a boss fight rather than some random ass section of road in the desert. On top of that just using all your ammo then waiting to supplies is so tedious.... Ugh anyway just had to rant but there is so much stupid shit in this game. Literally every other MGS game has had a fight against a Metal Gear that is great but this is just awful. Feels like no one even played it.

That locked symbol means that they're on a direct contract. Any soldiers on a direct contract will stay where they are and won't be moved anywhere else unless you manually move them.

There are bigger issues to talk about, but not wanting to delve into spoilers too much, the mission structure/categorisation is really grating on me.

Important side ops should have been main missions, while the
repeated main missions should appear in an extra challenge/remix category.

This fucking Kikongo/
quarantine
bullshit has really soured me on the game.
I just looked it up, and the infection stuff only goes away after Mission 29. So, on top of having spent all that time sorting through my list of 640 dudes to find the 240 of them who speak Kikongo (again, no option to sort by language spoken), I now have to rush through the game until I'm right near the end to hopefully minimise the damage done to the giant army I've spent all this time building. And, worse, I don't even want to Fulton any more dudes in the upcoming missions, even though I'm seeing A++ guys all over the place, because chances are they're going to speak Kikongo and get auto-sorted into my units and I'll have to go through the whole fucking list again to find them.

And forget all those cool new things I was planning on developing from here to the end of the game. With over a third of my army in quarantine, every unit I have has dropped by like six levels. Fuck, why would you do this, Kojima?
I really like the idea behind that whole episode, though. Installs a sense of importance and danger into an otherwise completely safe environment. One of the better uses of the whole mother base part of the game. It's also a fairly bold decision to take something away from the player and actually threatening them and their achievements - I can respect that.

That you can't sort by language is a stupid UI oversight, that makes the whole exercise more tedious than tense once you figure it out, though.

Ah, thanks. I thought I had to unlock them to use them but couldn't figure out how haha.

What's the point in having so many weapons to develop? In Peace Walker, you had boss battles against mechs wherein having powerful rocket launchers, machine guns, assault rifles, etc. were a must in quickly dispatching the boss, or even be able to beat it at all. You had numerous tanks to take out, as well as helicopters (and having a sniper helped quickly beat them).

In Phantom Pain, I'm getting close to the end of the game and I just don't see the point. In Peace Walker, it felt like you were progressing to where you were powerful enough to S rank the very difficult Side Ops missions. In Phantom Pain, it feels like busy work.

I just hope before I've beaten every Main Op and Side Op, there are some missions where I will be thankful to have a really high level Rocket Launcher or Machine Gun. It's just pointless right now.
You're allowed to use everything, not forced to use everything.

I think it's good that the game allows for a lot of different playstyles and approaches, even if it's to the detriment of 100% obsessive types.

I developed the
Intercept
head for D-walker thinking it was going to use primary weapons, but it doesn't.

Even when it runs out of secondary ammo it doesnt want to switch to primaries

lol. When you view a screen, you can press the pause button to view some tips on what certain things mean - that's how I found out what half of these things actually do.

If you don't want certain soldiers to be moved somewhere else automatically, just lock them.

Goddamn this game is so stupid sometimes.

10 minute long
Skull Face
monologue.... Snake says literally not a word, then we just sit in the jeep for another 5 while
the theme song plays gratuitously
.

He's just saying words that don't even make sense. First they say his plan is to
wipe out every language BUT English, then (oh what a twist!) he wants to wipe out ONLY English, which he explains to you IN English after extolling on his time covering your tracks while he worked for the CIA
. Did they just make this up as they went along?
After praising MGSV for having the least amount of shittily written pseudo-science, pseudo-philosophical monologues shoved down the player's throat since the original MGS, then came that sequence. Pure shit. Also comes after a very big and enjoyable infiltration mission, really showcasing how good MGS and how shit MGS can be in quick succession.

Seems like someone forgot to show that scene to the editor. :lol

Man, the sniper Skull girls in the Code Talker mission is a legit awesome boss fight if you actually fight them and don't just run your ass off to the checkpoint like I did first time round. Did it on Extreme with the anti-material rifle and had a blast! It's super tense when they decide to warp right up to you.

I'm warming up to the Skulls more overall, with repeated playthroughs.

Quick way to speed it up, I luckily got this down first time so it was pretty much a breeze and should help:

Go for your grenade launcher rather than rocket launcher, though take both with you as you will be using that whilst waiting for a supply drop. First focus on the white tanks on the back then focus on the stomach when it glows. Shooting the head doesn't really do much. You don't have to worry about ordering supply drops as it is automatic when you run out of ammo, rather than waiting to deplete your rocket ammo head for the ammo as quick as possible and get back onto your grenade launcher. I went further away at first but found out that plays into Sahelanthropus moveset as it has a poor turning circle and moves are in wide straight lines so stick close enough to avoid the fire but not too far away that you are easier to target and keep circling it. If you get caught in the circle of rocks shoot one and run out of it then go to town on its stomach. If you are reloading when it goes into slow motion run to Sahelanthropus left side and out of range, if not reloading shoot the kid. Really simple fight and that will give you an S rank even if you watch all the cutscenes.

So mission 16...
I ended up just bombarding the hell out of the tanks and snipers via bombing the hell out of them. Then I just rocket launched the hell out of the scull guys

Hardest mission so far. How did you guys approach this?
I found out that the truck is at the airport at the start of the mission so I went there by horse. On one wall there is a small part of the fence that you can climb on and get in the airport itself. The truck is right there. So I got close and the skulls triggered. Quickly fultoned the truck, called my horse and got out the airport from the south entrance (that is open). The skulls were chasing me but I outrun them and got out of the hot zone. S rank.

What is the point of upgrading helicopter deployment? I'm at level 4 heli and it still takes forever to come around, and it costs 30k!

Sub Zero

his body's cold as ice, but he's got a heart of gold
Are there any grenade launcher attachments for assault rifles? GZ had them but still haven't encountered one here despite having unlocked a good amount of the game's weapons

Did you actually equip the upgraded chasis? You have to go into customize on your iDroid while in the ACC to equip it.

Nope, it doesn't even move from the spot where you activate
intercept
mode

So it's just a standing cover-buddy mode. That's pretty disappointing since I just started development on it.

On one hand, the good thing about it not using primary ammo is that it won't waste it in case you yourself need to use it, but still, had this image of a roaming, murderizing robot in my head that now won't happen :(

Set up C4 spaced out enough that it would be able to blow up both escorts at once. Parked a jeep in front of the C4.

Convoy rolled up, I detonated, then backed off. The skulls hadn't seen me yet, and I knew from stealthing the first encounter with them that they gradually amble toward your position. So I waited until they were a good distance from the truck, made a wide arc around to the front, Fulton'd, then walked away. No alerts.

Its really good with pistols though

You wont be taking on entire facilities like quiet but one or two(unlikely) outposts and it will wreck house

Guys I think I may have messed up royally.

So I went to do the side mission 82 where you
resue emmrich
. Near the middle of the mission, when the
huey is taking off with emmrich, I decided to call a chopper to take me to where the Huey was (something like 1500 meters away). I hopped into the chopper expecting it to offer me a new location to land but--nope!--it ended the mission. Now my side op mission is still yellow, her eye out but has a check mark and no glowy dot next to it--but I don't have emmrich!

HALP! What have I done. :(

A check mark doesn't mean something is finished. It's just a specific location marker, as in, now you know the exact location of
emmerich
rather than a vauge area. Go to the check mark.

I usually don't have a lot of time to devote to gaming these days, but i've been carving out time for MGSV... unfortunately that time is typically between 11pm and 3am...

Averaging 5 hours of sleep per night the last two weeks is starting to catch up to me.

I was referring to the check mark in the missions side ops list. What check mark are you referring to, because I don't see one on the map marking his location.

Sorry, I thought you were saying there was a checkmark on the map. Like the ones that appear for blueprints or materials that you know the location of.

When you find
Huey
it launches Mission 12. Check your mission list and see if it's in there for you to start.

Why does a petrol bomb cost like a 100 g's? Its a bottle of petrol and a rag ffs my R&D guys are taking the piss out of me.

I got ground zeroes with the game, and I have been playing with that. I love just taking my time and sneaking around.

In the actual game... is there more of this or are there time limits? I take a very very slow approach...

Its exactly like that in a bigger world. I think around a couple of missions have a time limit. Maybe.
