Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

I'm not sure if I saw it mentioned, but holy hell I'm surprised more people don't (Mission 40 spoilers)
use air strikes/bombardment on Quiet. Fuck the supply drop nonsense that she always seems to dodge. One bombardment took half of her life away
It was even easier than the first time around

if it makes it any easier, i just gave up on stealth at one point.

you know they are coming, its not like you could of been super sneaky and not alerted the guards the prisonors escaped, so i thought, screw it, im going loud.

You must go scout too, but leave the
kids
behind until you're sure that there are no more soldiers waiting for you. Use "cover me" on Quiet ahead of your current location so she can just remove other threats.

Also take your time. Rushing will always get someone killed.

Thanks, just went back to it after a twenty minute break and did it fist time. Always the way.

Can someone clarify something with Major Zero that's driving me nuts? When did he become American? Did I miss something in MGS3? I always thought he was clearly British but in an early MGSV tape Oceleot refers to
"David O, an American
. And the whole Chapter 1 plot
has Skullface getting revenge on America when he evidently worked in the CIA with Zero. And Cipher is presented as a Black Ops US Intelligence operation.

So did MGS3 present Major Zero as a Brit who became a US Citizen or is there some kind of weird (even by the series' standards) retcon here?

I think he was always a British American immigrant seeing as he works for America in MGS3.

From my understanding, Major Zero had become an American citizen before he operated with the CIA in the early 1960s leading to him establishing FOX several years later for the events of MGS3: Snake Eater. His background history does state that he had worked with the Special Air Serivce (SAS), using his real name/title "Major David Oh," which is where he meets The Boss for the first time and Zero also served as part of Military Intelligence, Section 6 (MI6) with the codename "O" before joining the U.S.

Except it's like an all you can eat buffet of bread, and you need to finish the bread before you are allowed to get the steak and by that time you're a little sick.

I am so sorry you feel that way. my dinner was different from yours. Maybe you'll have what I had next time we go?

Since I felt so behind on troops I have grinded side ops and fultoning entire bases regardless of their level. Around mission 30 now. I'm at around 500 people at mother base now after spending two whole days trying to capture the entirety of Afghanistan. I guess I
went down to about 220 after mission
25
. Is there any point it will stop throwing side ops at me and I'll be forced to continue the story?

So I'm about to come up to building the FOB stuff. From what I understand any resources and troops stolen are from what your FOB collected, right? Not from what you've collected throughout the game up to that point?

EDIT: Meant to post this in the FOB thread, but I guess it'll work here too.

Chapter
2
spoilers (after Mission
31
).

I did the
Search for the Children 05
mission, but while it was saving after
extracting the kid
, I fell off the cliff and died. When I reloaded from the checkpoint I was in the middle of the base and
all the normal soldiers were there (instead of being empty with just some zombie solders)
. I never got any cassette tapes afterward and I haven't gotten a cutscene when returning to Mother Base yet. I figured I would have
due to Eli's threats
. Did I miss out on stuff, or does the cutscene happen later on and not right away?

I did mission
38
and some side ops in the mean time and nothing progressed in terms
of Eli
. Thank you.

Does anyone know the answer to this? I don't want to look it up to avoid as much story stuff as possible. Thanks!

After mission 25 and the
Quarantine/infection... I spent a stupid amount of time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. I listened to the tapes and figured out it was language related, so I checked all of the guys they put in quarantine, and every single one them spoke the same 4 languages: English, Russian, Afrikaans, Kikongo.

If it was just one common language it would have been easy. But FOUR? How was I supposed to know which one did it? At first I moved everyone that spoke all 4 of those languages and didn't get any kind of prompt other than I moved them. Then I googled it and found it's Kikongo. I moved everyone that speaks Kikongo and got a message that I drastically lowered the new infection rate.

So how was I supposed to know that it was Kikongo in this case? Is it just RNG that I got unlucky enough that all 8 of the guys moved to quarantine all spoke the same 4 languages?

I didn't bother, and I don't think anyone should bother about that.
You loose only 15/20 men if you play the main mission quickly, and at this point you should have maybe A++ as your best men so it's alright to loose some you'll get on of them afterward.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO has an idea on where to get massive Common Metal to finish that platform? :|

Then I can finally start to expand my F.O.B.

I have done 3 missions in Africa now and I was wondering where the area is located that was shown in the gameplay preview one year ago, because the map design looked way superior to what I have seen so far. I opened up Idroid and assume it's located in a small area in the far west....well, now I get some of the major criticism.

Here's my version of how it ended up that way.

TGS 2014 right after gameplay-presentation
Konami Exec Mr. Tanaka: Hello, Mr. Kojima.
Kojima: Hello, Tanaka san did you like our latest presentation?
Konami Exec Mr. Tanaka: Gorgeous indeed, when is the game ready for shipment?
Kojima: Oh soon, we have already entered the last production phase.
Konami Exec Mr. Tanaka: Let me ask again. Kojima san, WHEN IS THE GAME READY FOR SHIPMENT?
Kojima: Ok, now I got you...(tpyes something on pocket calculator)...in 3 years. Isn't that great? I'm so excited!
Konami Exec Mr. Tanaka: (madman laughter)....you're a funny man Kojima san... but seriously?!?!
Kojima: 2 1/2 years
Konami Exec Mr. Tanaka: Ok, let me answer this question for you. THE GAME WILL BE RELEASED IN ONE YEAR!
Kojima: (madman laughter) ...oh Tanaka san you're a very funny man,too...(nervous giggle)...you are joking right?
Konami Exec Mr. Tanaka: Yes, of course like the sun revoles around planet earth. Good bye Kojima san. I think you have plenty to do right now.
Kojimas right hand Dyuske Kobayashi: Boss, what are we going to do now. The area we have completed for the Africa Map is just 5% of the total map and we told everyone the game will be 200 times bigger than GZ.
Kojima: (biting fingernails) calm down moron. Have you ever been to Africa? No, me neither but I was told it's flat, deserted and dull in most parts. Make use of the basic map-editor functions and C+P.
Kojimas right hand Dyuske Kobayashi: (salutes in military fashion) You're a legend Kojima san. Thanks for training with me.
Kojima: Yes, I know...

i took out the group of soliders who are stationed there, sprinted ahead to trigger the soliders in the back spawning, and killed them while looking for the chopper to shoot down.

had to call in a supply drop for a rocket first.
I never had to deal with
spawners. I fultoned, and made any lesser stat guys lie down in discreet locations at the camp before I ever got the kids out. After that, I'd make them wait at each spot and run up and trigger reflex and put bullets in faces. Worked all the way up to the chopper. Only trouble was the enemy chopper spotted mine and started filling it with holes. Luckily I got my rocket to take it down being as far away as I was. Nobody followed because they were all dead and no alerts happened to make the prone soldiers get up. Easy S Rank.

Only think I would have done different is take down the enemy chopper overhead by the river once I cleared it before getting to the extraction point. Wouldn't have made it as close a call.
but fuck that mission forever now that S Rank was achieved. Those
kids
ain't listen for shit.

Mission 45 is awful.

It is probably the worst mission in the game.
Everything in that mission takes way too many hits to take down.
What happens after that mission makes it all even worse.

I'm not sure if I saw it mentioned, but holy hell I'm surprised more people don't (Mission 40 spoilers)

Doesn't that method negate S-rank from you? I prefer just taking tank since you get S-rank with minimal effort.

So, not directly related to the game itself (content-wise), but still, I found it amusing.

I was at uni earlier today, walking towards one of the building, when suddenly, I see this:

Mission 30 has a bunch of ship containers in it. If you restart the mission they respawn. Hellbound I forget the mission number also has three containers at the start with the same sea that each time you restart the mission they respawn.

I backed in and out of the menu and more had been auto-sent to quarantine with more vectors to check for.

did mission 16 yesterday. with 5/8.

imo pretty bad mission design.
at the end I just ran around the
skulls
, extracted the truck and then rode d horse out of the mission area.
all while being under heavy fire.
when I finaly left the mission area the
skulls
where right next to me, but then just disappeared.

not many problems.

It all depends.
i went on a Fulton spree before this and had over 200 people with the language. I went from somewhere in the 900s in staff to very low 700s before I had it spoiled looking for tips. And this was while doing just the story missions.

I'm on chapter 19, but why people say
Kaz is blind? I mean, when I rescued children,he disarmed one of them with one arm, dismantling the rifle from ammo in one sec. How can Kaz do that if he is blind? He was never a great soldier like Snake, it makes no sense, I doubt that is muscolar memory and he just "felt" the kid aiming at him and he acted like he did.

I just did this mission today too and used the exact same tactics. Although it took six attempts to successfully Fulton the truck, the Fulton balloon kept popping for some reason.

Isn't Kaz a military trainer of sorts? He's not a super soldier, but that sort of thing sounds like what we expect him to be good at even when blind. Also, it's a kid.

When I did it the same way, I must have take a funky path out of the base, because their AI didn't do anything but skate next to me the whole way. Like they were escorting me out, lol.

I never thought he was blind this entire game. Is he really? I know Boss mentions it but you can see his eyes through his glasses move and they seem fine

For mission 16, I
found the convoy right after it left the airport. I shot the driver of the truck from a distance and triggered the cutscene. The Skulls had no idea where I was so I led them away from the truck with magazines, snuck behind the truck and extracted it (it doesn't alert them at all for some reason), and sneaked a good distance away before calling D-Horse and heading out of the hot zone. It's damn easy if you're sneaky enough.

Yup. Unless you've seen those quick finish tutorials, Patience and stealth is the way to go. Took me about 5 tries to slow myself down and take it slow.

This is amazing, thanks for sharing. I'd love if things like this woulod happen where I live.

There must be others around Paris. FranceGAF, I added a new mission to your mission list. Check your iDroid for details.

So I am after finally getting far into the game.

1. Really dig the game as a whole (9/10 for me). Just love the sandbox approach to missions.

2. I actually don't like Kiefer Sutherland's voice acting. They are alright for the scripted segments, but when you are calling out to buddies... it's feels too gruff bordering cartoonish.

3. So, I liked Quiet more than I thought I would. She is arguably the best to bring on mission with the silenced Tranq sniper rifle having you walk into bases like a recruiter at a narcoleptic job fair.

And, I seem to be be in the minority, but I don't mind cheesecake factor when its overt and intended. What kills me about her is that when she isn't cheesecake, she has moments of genuine endearing personality in expression that could have been used a lot more to balance her out more.

Also there was potential for a father/daughter overtone in the light of Snake's inability to have his own children that is lost by her being presented as the sexy femme fatale first and foremost. And if that dimension was still intended, it's creepy as hell...

4. FOB are a cool feature with piss poor implementation. Hopefully they iron out the kinks and make it extra bases aren't hidden behind a paywall.

Yeah but
way too ofter seems like he search for eye contact, like Quiet's scene with Snake. I mean, he doesn't act like a blind person if you look at it. Even during Huey interrogation, he doesn't seem blind at all to me.

Use one of the empty armored vehicles from the convoy and turn them into green glowy mulch while avoiding hitting the truck. Or, introduce them to business end of a rocket launcher.

I did once... I threw them a bunch of RPGs and 3 out of 4 remained in the ground, but the bar of the foruth got stuck at 1%, as if it was meant to always had at least 1..

if you scan them with the binoculars, they have a kind of boss bars, like
Quiet

I tried running away and stealth sniping them with a tranq rifle. No dice with them. They are effectively in full riot gear.

Also smoke grenades didn't work (they just move away) and never been able to just sneak to them to grapple.

I think stamina is the same deal... there will be at least 1 standing..

I got past them by stealth last night, it was one of the most tense moments I ever had in this game, but I did manage to lure them out on one side of
the convoy
and on the other I fultoned it, then I left sloooowly and they never saw me.. but yeah, it is possible to stealth them

Finished the game a little bit ago.
The twist actually goes down alot easier seeing it than just hearing it or reading it, but it's still portrayed in a really piss poor way.

-The repeat of the slow ass hospital escape with a handful of changes, while meaningful, seemed needless to do the whole slow ass thing over again. Could have just as easily been a montage.
-When does Venom actually learn about his true nature chronologically?
-Why couldn't Big Boss actually show up on Mother Base or somewhere and tell Venom himself?
-Why is Zero such a non character all the way up until the exposition dump at the end?
-Speaking of, the exposition tape dump is really a bit much. There are some good bits in there, but literally sitting and listening to like 40 minutes of audio just to try and justify the terribly-presented twist to the game was really grating.

All in all, this game really is something of a travesty with it's early release, rushed and unfinished state, and severely underwhelming and poorly placed story. It's a fun gameplay loop that really should be about half as long and twice as dense with actually substantial narrative. I love it, I hate it. It's the best MGS game but it's also undoubtedly the fucking worst MGS game.

Not sure if this is a spoiler but very late game question here so I'll tag it just in case.
OK so what's the deal with building a nuke? I just want to get the trophy for it but then it's going to cost me hero points or something? Is it a lot of them? And why do I care about hero points? Also what do I do with a nuke. Can I just equip it as a back weapon lol
