There's more #MGSARTINPARIS ! Just searched for it on Twitter. There's got to be more of them.

This is wonderful, why not every country does this? :(

"Aw man, I don't want to replay missions!!"

Play mission 41 and see why some people don't like the repeat missions. Those repeat mission options (ESPECIALLY "Subsistence") should be options on the main missions themselves instead of repeats with the options on.

For instance, you should be able to turn the "Subsistence" and "Total Stealth" flags both on for all the story missions if that's how you want to pick your poison. Want to do "Extreme" "Subsistence?" That should be able to be done.

But no, you only get those options on certain "repeat" missions because they're filler.

When I did it the same way, I must have take a funky path out of the base, because their AI didn't do anything but skate next to me the whole way. Like they were escorting me out, lol.

Same thing happened to me. Then I left the mission area and it just stopped lol. Felt weird.

That mission in general seems to have a ton of problems. The first time I played it,
I tried running around the mountain next to you at the start to hide from the Gear and it ended up stepping on a sandbag and getting stuck. I couldn't even call the helicopter because I guess it can't come in until a later scripted event, so I was screwed. Took me 15 minutes to realize I would have to start over.

It's a crock of shit of a mission, seriously. Isn't the open world idea to tackle missions the way you want? Why can't I run away from
Metal Gear the way I want? I have the horse, Emmerick is on it, so why do I have to take the heli exactly on the area the MG is searching me? So dumb.

Uhh for your own good, you should consider the game over already and everything after that as post-game content.

I just finished chapter 1 and I'm starting chapter 2. Knowing that there are missions that
are just repeats of old ones, and as far as I know could have been extra ops and not effected much....at least the unnecessary missions are marked. Shoulda been in an "EXTRA OPS" menu like peace walker.

One thing about the structure that's odd to me is that Chapter 1 feels like AT LEAST two chapters (Maybe 3)
but it could have easily had a chapter break after mission 12, since the narrative shifts and the location changes And then the game would have seemed more narratively balanced, missionwise. The 31 missions AND THEN chapter break feels unintentionally misleading. I see those first 12 missions as a chapter, and then the next 19 missions could be "chapter 2" and then the actual chapter 2 would make sense as "chapter 3" at that point. (Really think the repeat missions shoulda been set off on their own menu slot, or just been modifiers you could play on every mission in the game, so it's more straightforward) I think there's only 7 missions there, not counting side ops?

Man I tried doing a training run on my own FOB and I don't think it's even possible to stealth the whole thing at this point without using hacks. The guards can notice you even if you're crawling as long as you're in their vision cone. You'd have to take out nearly every guard to get to the end without alerts especially because I positioned them at the main pathways.

I like using the sonar command for the few FOBs I have done. Plus I am only in it for the trophy and some curiosity. So I just make a B line for any containers and then the exit. RD is awesome for stealth since I effed up the shooting mini game some much, i know all the pipes by heart now. I just climb up when there isn't any drones and waltz right out.

It's because they obviously intended for there to be 1 more chapter with the Eli and Metal Gear stuff, and then Chapter 3 would be the real post-game chapter which has the repeat missions.

You haven't seen my max security FOB with A+ and higher rank guards who are properly positioned and there are multiple platforms for each strut type. It's really the multiple platforms which makes it super difficult since it also allows you to have more guards which means the chances of you reaching the final strut with no alerts is almost zero.

Yeah whatever I'm so sick of posts like this.

Sick of what? People stating that repeating missions don't have anything to add to story? Unless I missed something they are exactly same cutscene and dialog wise as the original versions. Chapter 2 has alot of story to give but repeat missions aren't that.

?obviously intended?
I dunno about that. I'm just saying I feel like Chapter 1 feels like it has a clear split in it
after mission 12
that could have had a CHAPTER title card thrown in and felt natural.

This is a super early game story related question:

Did Kaz sustain those amputations due to the results of the ending of GZ or are those related to his captivity?

also the
PT radio broadcast
was totally playing on a radio in one of the missions I did recently. That was weird hah

It was his captivity.

I nearly quit a few hours ago but I finally managed to finish it.

Overall I actually liked the ending. Total Kojima and didn't mind that I "wasn't" Big Boss all along. Nice twist, kinda stupid but pretty entertaining. Would've been nice if the real Boss had been voiced by Hayter though.

That said, this had the best gameplay (nearly too much of it!) of the series, but the open world held it back. Feels like the missions would've been better served as Ground Zeroes-style big, but walled and separate sandboxes. I felt like I spent so much time running from point to point or using the ACC to zip into and out of the world, that it held back the fluidity of the game. Once you're playing it, it's nearly unparalleled, but it's kinda made disjointed by the empty spaces inbetween.

And it's obviously unfinished, the story in chapter 2 was a bit of a mess. Hopefully Kojima will be granted the courtesy of actually being allowed to complete his next game now that he's out from under Konami.

It's very nearly one of the all time greats but for me it has to settle with merely being a very, very good game. But the narrative and overall package of MGS3 still puts that at the top of the series IMO.

That's it, in 6 weeks I've played Metal Gear Solid 1,2 and 3 and watched the youtube movies of MGS4 (I don't have a PS3) and Peace Walker (I'm not playing that shit).

I'm gonna play some Peggle now.

About "The story in chapter 2 is a mess" is this from people who are playing everything? I'm skipping the repeat missions and i'm after
extracting the minerals at code talker's mansion
and it feels like theres MORE story already than there was in the first
27
missions. Does the Chapter 2 story just flow better if you skip those repeat missions and only focus on the core stuff? There's absolutely zero new content in the repeat missions right? There's no easter eggs or extra dialog or codecs is there?

It was? This was stated?

I'm pretty sure it's said in one of the codecs that
Kaz was in active duty in the region running diamond dogs and fighting with the men, and that now he's refusing prosthetics surgery and is taking an XO role after big boss's return..

When your waiting room is too full and they start kicking people out, do they prioritize kicking out the E/D's, or do they keep you from getting new guys?

I feel confident in calling this the best game in the series. At over 90hrs it's objectively given me more good times than any other Metal Gear.

Didn't have a PS3 so never played 4.

Big Boss >>>> Solid Snake while we're it

Right now mission 16 can eat my ass.

Don't understand the Mission 16 hate. Are they being alerted to you as soon as they spawn?

I crawled up to the the vehicle, then they popped out, but didn't agro to me. So I backed up a bit. Called in a rocket launcher supply drop, and wrecked them. Didn't die once.

As someone who is a more recent Metal Gear fan. (I played through the whole saga when the HD collection came out.) I agree wholeheartedly. I'd probably share your ranking, placing 4 above 2 and Peace Walker above 4. (I personally found 2 a struggle to get through, and found the ending to mostly be wankery)

Big Boss is the real star of MGS as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to double post.

Lol Big Boss ain't shit. Solid Snake crawled through a microwave tunnel and then fought on top of Arsenal Gear in a barenuckle brawl to save the world.

This is a good ranking though. I'd go V > 3 > 1 > 4 > 2 > PW myself

Is there really no way to filter side ops by "not completed" or "available"? It's getting tiresome to always scroll through the whole list to find the few that I actually want to do.

Can you do anything with the captured
Walkers
that you fulton?

You can only deploy with
D-Walker
from what I can tell. Does having the other ones in your inventory help you at all in any way? Or should I just sell them for cold hard GMB?
