Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

I take back almost everything negative I said about the story.

Dat true ending

You liked it?

Glad to see another fan. Please head to the spoiler thread and join the cause! People over there are flying off the handle about it. It's great, imo.

I'm definitely a lore 'nerd', but I'm pretty open to whatever Kojima's brings to the table regardless of it retconning previous storylines or anything. So long as it actually has a point and isn't the slap-dash, mish-mash, "everything and the kitchen sink" approach that Kojima's obligingly took with MGSIV, I think I'll be fine. :)

That's great to hear. I desperately want to find out what happens but I refuse to rush the (potentially) last Metal Gear.

Hmm. Will be interesting to see what you think. I wrote a bigger post here but I won't say anything that might impact your perspective or thoughts going in.

Really hate how everyone knows Quiet leaves at some point and asks how to keep her. Just let her go for fucks sake. You get one of the few good story moments in the game
.

Just so I know,
allowing her to leave won't lock me out from getting 100% or anything right?

Are there people out there happy with how the game concluded and the story content? So far, I've only heard negative experiences. Of course, those voices are usually the loudest, particularly in the aftermath, so are there any gaffers who were satisfied with the endings and how the story wrapped up?

I know Peacewalker gets a ton of hate, but I quite liked and enjoyed the game and thought the end boss and normal ending were entertaining. I didn't feel the need to pursue the grind for the true ending. I know it ties directly into GZ and PP, but I was burnt out at that point on PW. I plan to do a Big Boss saga playthrough at some point (MGS3-PP), so will get the true endings on those playthroughs.

Disclaimer: I thought MGS3 was the best MGS game prior to this because the story functioned the best isolated from the larger narrative/plot strings, which I absolutely do not care for. I have a heavy dislike for MGS4 barring the last few moments of the game (due to nostalgia) and in general, I think the MGS stories and the way they are told are nonsense.

I thought that the MGSV story was fine for that reason (missions 1 to 31). Not too much, not in your face every two seconds and certainly not with the craziness of the past games that I could do without. I felt that the plot strings were tied up fairly well though you can still see Kojima's propensity to try and explain every little detail which is still annoying.

I dislike the actual true ending because of how it fits with the larger narrative but it doesn't bother me too much. I thought everything leading up until the final mission 46 was fine. But that's probably because I don't care enough for some of the plot strings to want closure.

tl;dr I thought it was fine, but I'm in the minority because I think MGS stories are garbage.

Mission 40:
Can I not drop supplies on her head? She seems to avoid it.
I did this without doing that, but later learned
you have to bait her to shoot right before the thing falls on her. Problem is you need to drop like 7 of them on her and sometimes she's in a spot where you can't do it.

Finally 100% MGS5. Feels good man. I'm still missing the Nuclear and Disarmament achievements but those basically just require me to idle and wait for my Fuel materials to get processed so I can make a Nuclear Warhead and then destroy it.

So do cargo containers stop appearing if you recover them too many times?
Because the ones that normally spawn at the airport, the soviet central base and the barracks haven't shown up in a while. And I'm starting to run low on fuel...

Just finished chapter 1.
Ch 2 must REALLY be bad if it can ruin this masterpiece.

Also, I
assume you have to press R2 to kill skull face like the boss in mgs3. I didn't press it and waited. The cutscene still went on after a minute. My question: If I pressed r2, would I have gotten something different? If answering this somehow spoils later parts in the game, then don't answer heh

How do I trigger the "cool cutscene" some have been saying about the medical platform in a door in it? I'm there (i already complete those side ops needed, i think) but the door doesn't open

Edit: never mind, i was at the wrong door, lol

are people a fan of the way they
"remix" missions
in the chapter 2? I feel like I don't want to play some of these missions
because I wasn't a fan of them to begin with on the first go around.

Like I feel bad just moving on because I know about the whole
Quiet departure
and feel like I should make the most of it before it happens. I just unlocked mission 41. Any thoughts?

All it does is make you shoot him extra times and show BB changing model back to his hospital appearence just like how Kaz changes later on. It then plays the rest of the scene like what happens if you don't shoot him.

I like the idea of these "modes", but I would've preferred them as optional unlockable for repeating old missions instead of "full new" missions. But well, that happens when your game is cut short.

The scene I got had him shoot off his arms and legs and kaz and snake were changing to GZ appearances. Is this different?

Just finished mission 19, but I have a story/timeline question:

Earlier in the game, I guess shortly after I got Huey, he mentions cloning research and the value of cloning Big Boss' genes and BB acts very nonchalant about it, like he doesn't understand or care about what Huey's saying. But wasn't cloning Big Boss behind his back the whole he left Cipher long before this game, before even Peace Walker? Is he acting that way not to let on to Huey he already knows about LET, or is Kojima retconning that date now?

This can't be right!!!!! Gaf, help me without spoiling too much...

I just triggered that cutscene at medical bay:
the one where paz is there, alive! They showed a kind of alternate version of that cutscene in ground zeroes, but... is that true? The Ground Zeroes scene was "fake"?

Just keep playing. Anything else said would be spoilers.

Just play side ops - one day in a few months I'll revisit them but for now I'm too burnt out to repeat missions

So I just saw the
jeep's ride.
.

I really don't know how the hell KojiPro managed to fuck this so hard.

I mean,
the script seems just too much longer compared to the travel. So, what can we do? Simple: put Sins of Father in so we can fill the gap. But simply, it doesn't work. Venom doesn't speak at ALL here, he really doesn't give a fuck about what is happening in this game. Skull Face explains his dumb plan, and hell if it's dumb, than he shuts up and the song occurs. But me, as a player...well, I didn't feel nothing. The song is out of place, here, this scene is maybe the worst thing I saw in a MGS game. Thsi game feels so unfinished...it hurts.
]

The words of SkullFace are resounding in Big Boss's head. He sorts of understands his lust for revenge on Cipher, but at the same time, he wants revenge on the man who's sitting in front of him. Words that kill, are those that are spoken by SkullFace. SkullFace is implanting his idea of "the language of nukes" to Big Boss, I believe. Hence, Sins of The Father.

Big Boss doesn't speak, which is OK, he didn't speak to Volgin in MGS3 when he tell him about the Philosophers, or when he is awarded as Big Boss, so nothing out of place with that.

At least, that's how I felt it. Maybe it wasn't very good implemented, because of the free camera, It could have been more impactful if better directed.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Only if.their stats suck. They only lie on the field, keep them for your FOB if you like.

Are we sure about that? I scanned a Boaster that was walking around MB and then checked out his stats in the Staff Management section and they were the same. I thought they lied when analyzed.

It shows different stats in the field, and more importantly, to enemies invading your FOB.

Beaten the game

Mission 43
Kojima has gone Dead Space. In his own way. And he won.
Woa, this game is a masterpiece!

Mission 45
Gameplay part was cheap, but still tasty. Epilogue of Quiet's story almost made me cry. Woooooa, this game is the masterpiece of the masterpieces!

Mission 46
Uhm, ok.

Mission 46 Complete (major end game spoilers):
Thought that he might be a replacement for Big Boss, but the way the story played out, I thought that it definitely was him up until near the end. That replay of the hospital was okay, but the best stuff is knowing that it was really BB helping you out of there. If I were BB, I'd wanted my own out as well.

That farewell the the player too and the nods to David Hayter were good too.

Big questions:
Is it the real big boss who actually shows up at the end of MGS4? I guess that also could cover the amount of times Big Boss dies during the course of the series.

All that's left is to wrap up mission 45, a ton of side ops, and the last few missions. Kojima really outdid himself here.

Is that cleared up after the end of the credits or somewhere else?

I feel dumb for asking but what David Hayer nod?

It shows BB's new name as David Hayter and on the back of the picture Venom Snake holds up at the start had a "Good Luck" message from David as well.

Usually when games try to do things like mission 43 does in this game it doesn't hit me that hard, but man....that was rough.

The worst was unlocking that door downstairs with all the guys in it, and them saying "lets let the Boss decide." It worked very well in showing Big Boss' many regrets resurfacing as well. Made that ashes scene feel legit. Didn't know how they were going to make that work.

Yes. The hit me hard. Was starting to think this game didn't have anything like that. Extremely well done.

Yeah it should say if they are a specialist under their stats in the field. I'm more referring to the specialists you get during missions, like the metamaterials specialists and robotic specialists.

so just because someone has an A++ in R&D for example doesn't make them a specialist?...so if someone has a B grade in R&D they could in theory be a specialist?

Is that cleared up after the end of the credits or somewhere else?

Would it not only do that if you put in your character's name as David Hayter at the beginning though?

Specialist means they have a special skill that usually unlocks a new thing you can develop. Transportation specialist, anathesia specialist, etc. A++ just affects your R&D level.

Oooooooooooooooh. I name 'Venon' Snake David so that nod was lost of me. Thanks for the clearing that up for me
