Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Is there a point of no return or a new game plus I kinda enjoy the game to much for it to end just got to mission 30 and only just recovering from the amount of damage prior missions caused to my army.

144 hours and I just started chapter two.

This is probably the longest game I've ever played, but that is something which is very player dependent. I just like doing all of the side-ops as I go.

I'll be honest, I didn't even reach chapter 10 already. I want to do more but...shit just doesn't make sense to me.

Stopped playing at 9, realized that I fucking needed to man up and do the previous games. I only did Rising so far. Started reading the Metal Gear Wiki to understand a little bit of everything and started playing MGS with Twin Snakes.

I finished MGS on Sunday, started MGS2 right away and just finished it today.

Now I'm starting MGS3. I've been missing out all this time, guys...this is one of the best franchise I ever experienced. D':

It's also been a while since I played so intensively, like right after coming back from work, I'm loving it too much!

I wonder what speed run times will be like for this game. I think there could be some interesting tactics involved because of the development timers, base stuff, and the ability to tackle missions in so many ways.

Tried that once, and she shot me instead lol. Fortunately it was the tranq rifle.

It's funny when she does it too. Knowing how Quiet feels about Snake, it almost feels like she's flirting with him. If it had been intentional, it would've certainly been more believable and a cool way of incorporating in-game storytelling. Way better than the embarrassing "rain scene" anyway.
that's cool, I need to try that more often.

yeah, actually a lot of my empathy or sort of caring for her as a character actually came from gameplay... things like when she gives you a thumbs up or the two of you make an awesome at-the-same-time combo taking out some guards.. same thing D Dog, I had a few times where he was just awesome, perfect timing kicking ass or saving my ass with a stun, and I just want to press Triangle to show my respects, "good boy"

actually she saved my ass in one of the Extreme versions later, of Mission... 13 or so (the first Angola mission)

technically it's Mission 44 but since it's basically just Mission 13 on Extreme, the spoilers are just for Mission 13 I suppose

i posted about it the other day, afterwards I wrote that going it to it I felt: holy fffff was I scared about this because it's such a huge mission, but I ending up acing it on my very first try haha I got incredibly lucky with 1 perfectly timed tranq snipe from Quiet though,

i play without Markers and after I placed the C4 and almost to the sluice gate controls, I came around a corner and I was just fucked, screwed up and I knew I was probably too far away charge CQC, they all had helmets so I probably couldn't headshot tranq before gunfire and I had my handgun out so I probably couldn't use Hand of Jehuty in time; my instinct was just charge to CQC but I felt I was done, zero chance to make it hahaha then then Quiet tranqs him! just perfect lol I didn't even know she had her crosshairs on him, felt like I could never repeat just how lucky all my timing was my first try haha

so it's actually gameplay moments more than anything that really have made me care about my buddies... i mean, DD was cute and all but damn can he be a bad ass ninja at times, and it's awesome when Quiet saves your ass with a perfectly unpredicted tranquilzer shot or you set up a Take Aim/Fire or Shoot the Grenade combo

They'll probably use the minimal required to beat stuff
D-Walker and on-site tanks can be used whenever you need a high powered weapon, for example
. Ground Zeroes had some really good speed strats so hopefully we'll see that here too.

so disappointed David
aka Solid Snake
doesn't make an appearance in the game, from what i know so far. Do they ever mention him? Does
Zero
ever show up?

I wish they had a mod to make nighttime actually dark.

Feels like 6pm all night long.

nah, brah, there's a full moon. it always looks bright like that outdoors when there's a full moon.

the problem is that there's ALWAYS a full moon during nighttime in the game..

I noticed that too... Witcher 3 was the same way and I felt like I could see better with the bright moon than the blinding contrast of a torch. But I wanted darkness even more in MGS because it's an espionage game, so I'm already playing it a lower brightness than most games

but still feel like there's not enough dark basements, nights, jungles, etc. I wish sometimes you were forced to use NV or a gun light to actually see -- not just to see infra red signatures or blind CQC targets. maybe not all the time but would be cool had the moon changed, just like weather, and sometimes you had very dark nights (or more dark caves, basements, etc) that forced you to adapt and bring different gear.

feels weird reading about the truck mission.
on my first time i just used magazines, because i didn't have anything else. i was too scared to fight them, lol. you can finish that mission with minimal equipment. this game is great.

After a number of nights in back to the main story mission.

White mamba
In the guide it says
the fight is essential to the story line. All he did was run around. I knocked him out and that was it. He did call me Snake, but I got no story from it.

Replay it?

Man i am upset right now.
I've been trying real hard to S rank all my missions and I've been working on mission 8, Occupation Forces my general plan is clear the base, plant 2 sets of 4 c4 charges and blow up each of the tanks and shoot out the tires of the truck. if the truck gets past me I can catch up and it'll be fine.

first few pulls I don't know what I'm doing in the base I'm too slow I get seen, fine, that's my fault. Then I can reliably pull off the base, rescue the prisoner, the whole deal. but I plant my c4 too close to each other and both sets blow up at once but I figure I can regroup. I get ahead of the convoy, call in a new supply drop, and set up another batch of c4. but it doesn't fucking trigger when I press it. so that run is fucked.

Then I get it all layed out, I don't get the tires blown out right away so I get ahead of the truck and I get it's tires shot out. yay me!, I can't extract a truck so I have to get the dudes out of the truck but I can't figure out how to do it so I shoot em both nonlethal EXCEPT THE FUCKING GENERAL BUGS OUT IN SOME BULLSHIT STUN STATE WHERE HE'S STILL FUCKING STANDING AND I CAN'T EXTRACT HIM.
I shoot him a couple of times in the leg with a lethal weapon and nothing happens and then he fucking dies.

FUCK.

Set screen brightness to 0, it applies to the engine rather than just a filter placed over the screen, Nighttime was really good like that, but occasionally some types of daylight lighting can look a bit too contrasted at times, otherwise I generally prefer it.

I heard Quiet
eventually leaves.
Is this true? Is there a way to stop it?
Yes,
you're able to prevent her departure by equipping the Butterfly in your custom emblem prior to activating Side-Ops #150/Mission #45. However, if you're aiming for 100% completion with the game, you eventually have to let her depart as those two tasks are tied down with the narrative.

Has anyone tried other types of Emblem combinations to see if there are different effects with other parts of the game?

I feel that there are still things to be seen on the game. Even if they are minor thing.

Like, I don't know, did anybody scanned with ultra-violet light the map in the Day one/Collector Edition? lol

Anyway, Sins of The Father is now my fav main MGS theme. It's so powerful, and the lyrics I think ties into various characters of the game.

It only needed a dark James Bond-esque intro ala Skyfall.

Also, finished the medical bay thing...
I was speachless. Everything is in his head? I try saying "peace" in the mic, or pressing triangle to say it... I don't know if there is something like that.

Thanks for the answers. :) Sucks about two of those not having a conclusion, though.
A conclusory mission for these characters was initially planned, but cut during production. You can find a video of a rough draft of that mission (using concept art, voice clips and unfinished WIP cutscenes) by searching Youtube for Mission 51.

Post Episode 31 question:

So, ta da! Chapter 2! Silly Kojima. :)
I finished the yellow 32 mission, but now I just have a Subsistence white 33 and an Extreme white 34. Do I have to play those glorified replay missions? Or will a new yellow story mission pop up eventually? That seems like a poor excuse for filler. Especially when the game is designed to replay the rest of the missions anyways.

Keep doing side ops, obviously especially the yellow ones. But even when you have only regular side ops available, keep completing them and new yellow main story missions will pop up. You don't have to touch the main story mission repeats if you don't want to (the Subsistence ones are fun, though).

The
Subsistence
missions are fucking beautiful. Talk about "feeling" like Big Boss.

Edit:

To expand my point, it's clear the missions are laid out accordingly, with you spotting solutions to work around the handicap. I love, love, love this method of game design. Come to think of it, this permeates throughout all the game's missions. Solutions abound, and the more you experiment, the more methods pop up.

This game tries to disguise itself as open world, but it really isn't, not in the western sense at least. Most developers harp on the "go anywhere, do anything" philosophy, but that won't amount to much when there's no fun to be had in the "doing" part. For me, MGS V doesn't do the "go anywhere" part, but it absolutely excels at the "do anything", because the game seemingly took the "everything" part into account.

- Start mission.
- Choose the southwest LZ.
- Sprint to the nearest camp and kidnap one of the guards.
- Sprint up the road with the guard and go left.
- Miller will say you're going the wrong way and there will be a little building ahead.
- Leave the guard in the middle of the road and take cover a good distance away from him.
- Wait for the convoy to stop and wake up the guard.
- Fulton the rear tank, then the truck with the general, and the front tank.
- S rank in less than 5min.

can't fulton tanks yet.

so how does one lose a
nuke
? FOB?
they're stored on your Command Platform at your FOB... so, they can be stolen.

basically what happens is this...
depending on when you go, he can either be sitting in his chair or patrolling.. I think he sits there at night, patrols at the day, but I suppose it could rotate more often than that. so, if he's patrolling, he just alarms and enters combat mode like any other NPC. if he's in the chair, there's a short scene with mostly just posing.

Then, there are also short 'combat scenes' if you use CQC... the sort of contextual CQC counters all have little animation scenes, but if you beat him with CQC, there's another short CQC scene (actually was in one of the trailers; the one where he uses the chair). It's the intro and combat scenes are just posing, action though... nothing much about story.

I beat him less than 60 seconds lol I just charged up while he was patrolling, surprised him and knocked him on his ass with a full clip of plastic bullets from Riot SMG, juggled him 2x doing that, and then Quiet put a tranquilizer dart in him knocking him out -- not a single scene or piece of dialogue haha
So do people not attack you on PC?
I have two FOBs (I'm part of the problem, I know) and I've yet to have a single attack on my base.
What's your PF Rank, something like 150K and E? Or, have you never invaded another player? I found that if you never actually invade anyone, your 'pvp rank' or whatever is so low that you probably won't even spawn as 'Random Target' for other players... I know that I rarely get E rank players anymore, and even less so as I rank up. So, as more players rank up, I think 'inactive' (or rather were-never-active) players will get attacked less and less.

Maybe your defense is too high ? I'm on PS4 (but that should be irrelevant, it's the same online mode) and I have minimum 1 (failed) attack a day, and I have a pretty good defense. I was attacked way more when I had a low defense.

Starting to wish I could get a mod that made night time realistically dark.

Overall the lighting in this game has a very natural, feel to it, almost like a simulation game like Gran Turismo or anything else that tries to depict reality... except at night where Konami obviously upped the brightness for playability. I'd love to play the game with actually-dark night time so night vision goggles are more useful and all the artificial lights in the environment make sense.

Edit: Beaten.

I didn't find mission 45 to be that hard if you follow a few steps:

- always deploy at 18:00

- obviously use nightvision at all times

- FB mark II launcher, you carry 14 rockets, it has the highest damage when maxed (IFV are down in one shot, heavy tanks in 2-3) and highest projectile speed meaning you don't have to lead the tanks/chopper that much. Don't use the lock on missiles, their damage is crap.

- stay behind the building Quiet is on top and just pop and shoot

- for the extract all tanks objective (after you get S rank) use weather support and always have a sandstorm active, tanks won't be able to see you upclose unless you shoot with unsuppressed weapons. Also you can use EMN mines to immobilize tanks you know the route they're coming

I think I might have a video of all this, will upload later.

also, about mission 45
use Decoys... they're huge on that mission. I must have thrown over 10 throughout it.. all the APCs will just get distracted by Decoys.. seriously, use Decoys

and heavy battle armor, and definitely definitely the rocket launcher you said... the lower damage lock-on rockets are definitely a waste, even for the heli. it settles enough that it's easy to hit manually.

and when you get 'breaks', set up as many anti-vehicle mines as possible.. if you have air dropped supply waiting near the road, you should be able to set up about 5-6 before the attacks start again. between decoys and mines, the APCs that get close to you are not really a threat even.

And yeah, fuck mission 16.

It honestly didn't occur to me to use decoys, but after like a billion tries I went ahead and just hopped in the APCs and started wailing on the skulls. Both got destroyed but I was still able to finish them off miraculously.

At least beating them leaves every enemy in the mission unconscious for like 10 solid minutes. I think I fultoned around 18 A-rank guys after that.

I always advice to use D Walker with gatling here. It makes thing a lot easier

Coop would give this game legs. We'd still be playing it in 2017.

I'm still occasionally booting up Peace Walker on the PS3 just for some coop matches, either taking on one of the customs or the monsters you can hunt since that's still a lot of fun, especially with stuff like the box tank. So yeah, it would definitely give the game legs.

I admit I am still secretly hoping MGO will have some sort of cooperative Players vs. AI mode since honestly while I always liked playing Metal Gear Online, I never was quite good enough to compete. Playing this game with a controller on PC won't do me any favors either.

Mission 16 sucks, but at least S ranking it is extremely easy. After looking up how to do it, it can be done easily in one try.

I beat this game on the 9th and I have been stuck in mission 45 since then.
The fact that you're "locked in" is fucking stupid because I would love to play more of this game but I just can not beat mission 45 no matter how hard I try. Even in almost flawless runs I end up getting killed in ONE HIT while wait on more ammo to drop.
Being unable to leave this mission once started is the shittiest design decision in this entire game period.
Especially because my load out is shit for what the mission actually is so I have to start each session by dodging ONE HIT KILLS whole calling in three different support item drops.

I'm so fed up with this shit mission.

You seriously can't get out of it if started? Holy shit.
I had to retry it bunch of times before managing it and even then I barely survived. But I remember being able to get to ACC if I selected return to title. Horrible mission though.

Going through SideOps atm and I am starting to get burned out on the game. Seriously why there has to be 10 repeats of each mission type? Probably going to try S-Rank main missions and try to get all specialists.

you can't acc that one, you can only go back to menu. mb was in the red for so long after that mission
If I could go to the ACC and set up my load out I'd be in decent shape. I've gotten Miller saying they're almost gone so many times and then a fucking missile comes out of nowhere. Really not the best mission.

Troof. I don't know what they were thinking, I mean you don't even know it's a 'mission' until it's sprung on you! You're prevented from customising your chopper which was one of the tools I used to get past it. (but make sure enemies are preoccupied or it'll go straight down)

If you have equipment woes though I would recommend restarting it instead of checkpoint as you have time to reequip before the cutscene.

I found the safest place
against the tanks was behind the small hill on the right, you can poke your head over, fire, and move back, everything will either go over your head or hit the hill.

I'm so fed up with this shit mission.

I was stuck in a similar position:
I was wearing the Biker Outfit with infiltration gear. Totally unprepared for a firefight.

When you get a chance, call down a Battle Dress for yourself. It makes things much easier, allowing you to take one direct hit from a tank (second one kills though).
Behind the palace is a safe place to call support, but do keep Quiet's health in mind.
Use Fire Support to take out tanks, and Fulton armored vehicles when they get close to the palace.
Never run out into the field.
If you end up having trouble with the helicopter, call down a 12mm sniper rifle or rocket launcher and head up to the roof. The chopper will never circle behind the palace, so use that to your advantage.

It will take several tries, but you'll get there.

One thing that annoyed me is it didn't let me use fire support. It just beeped at me rudely when I tried to choose a target. Nobody else seems to have that problem though.

so i just reached mission 20. to be honest this isnt relavent. i have a slight issue with the mission called C2W

first time i started this mission, i had a call from kaz explaining the mission, then a call from ocelot saying the communications had already be destroyed. this wasnt a suprise, it then threw me a load of points for completing the mission so quick and with no alerts etc. but i was not rewarded a rank, there was just a dash

since then i have replayed the mission, and on the mission results screen i was rewarded an S i also unlocked the emblem attached to this mission however on the mission list it is still labelled with a dash

is this going to count as an s rank in the background or is this just broken? anyone else had this issue and resolved it?

thanks

Do you have Fulton upgraded to extract cargo? There is a cargo container next to the building and you can extract yourself on it, aborting the mission. That's what I did, because I was also totally unprepared for this fight.

It is a known bug. Either wait for a fix, delete your save or keep playing but you will not get the s-rank trophy/achievement or achieve 100%.
