Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

use the armored sneaking suit, just run to the truck and fulton it and then start running.
call for d-horse and fucking leave the mission zone.
There has to be more to the story because the bad guys veto'd my fulton attempts, five out of five times. I ended up finishing that mission the bloody way.

They kept doing this to me, so I cleared the area of all soldiers before the skulls popped out, then lured them away by running far off from the truck.

Once they were away, sprinted back and fultoned the truck.

My plan (on attempt #6) was to lure them away and then fulton, but once I went loud all bets were off. They were all dead by the time I had a moment's respite from the fighting.

On a completely different topic, anybody else here that'd kill for co-op?

Hell, I'd even be into some shared-world versus action. Imagine dropping into Afghanistan knowing the world is populated with dozens of other players acting on behalf of their own PFs, with some objectives putting you at cross purposes or alliances with other players depending - something akin to GTAO but Metal Gear style.

Totally not into the FOB idea, but multiplayer and versus in the open worlds and I'd probably be all over it.

I actually like the FOB idea on paper, but I don't want to put my stuff at risk like that, or break the pacing of my campaign play time.

I cannot for the life of me S rank [Extreme] Backup, Back Down. My final mission requiring S rank.

I have
destroyed all initial tanks/vehicles, saved the optional prisoner, raided the weapons truck, destroyed the helicopter and captured the remaining 3 tanks as fast as I can possible imagine, no alerts/reflex and only getting A rank.

Any tips?

Co-op for sure should have been in the game. I don't think FOB is really as big of a risk as you think though. I turned my FOB as soon as it unlocked and I've only had two people succeed in invading me and my staff takes care of the rest. Once you develop all the security gear it's very difficult to pull off a successful invasion. I haven't lost anything from having my FOB up but the money and soldiers you gain from successful defenses is so nice.

I don't know how that is possible. You get
160 000 points from taking out all 11 vehicles, which alone is 30 000 more than you need for an S rank
, do you have something equipped or are using air support that prevents you from getting an S rank?

Time matters most. Don't bother with the 3 tanks. What I do is start the mission up North, beyond the last base the vehicles have to roll through.

From the chopper point, run directly to the northern most base(It's south from the landing zone). I think it's Yako Supply Depo. Sneak in there and fulton the APC that's in the base.

Next, run back up north. You'll run through a canyon right after leaving the supply post. Partway through the canyon on your left side you'll see like a small cliff you can hide on. It's just south of the LZ next to the road. Park D-Horse on the road, put an LLM mine behind him just in case, then camp on the cliff. Every vehicle will roll up north and stop for D-Horse. Fulton them out one after the other. Use D-Horse's poop or an LLM mine to stop the jeep with the prisoner and the truck with the rocket launcher and repeat until all tanks are gone. Call your chopper and blow up the enemy gunship and the one tank that spawns up north after your main objective is done and call it a day

Yeah. Do this;
land in the area near the top of the map just past the Yakho Oboo Supply Outpost, bring D Horse and leave him in the middle of the road just beside that landing zone, wait until the first armoured truck comes your way, lay in wait at the side of the road, it'll stop for a few seconds while d horse blocks the road, fulton it, then go and hide somewhere near the LZ you were dropped off at, wait for the timer to run out - mission complete for doing the minimum requirement of taking out one vehicle, then a 200,000 points bonus for everything else, perfect stealth, no traces etc - it's the easiest S rank to get once you use that method - just don't get seen at all, very simple.

Mission 16 has to have been the worst mission so far. Not well designed at all. Ended up just youtubing how to do it quickly because it was so terrible.

Also, in missions where there's a route on the map, why aren't start and end zones marked? Like shit Miller, don't bitch at me for being late cause you can't do one god damn job.

That'll work too, just a little more effort but it's the same basic strategy.

What do you mean, the end of a route is pointed. I think the route even pulses in the direction the vehicles. Not to mention you know where they are going from the mission briefing even before you can get their actual path.

Only if you interrogate soldiers or find intel - at mission start you *only* know the location of the supporting unit's rally point.

We both have the same idea, I run in and take the first one just to shave 3 minutes off the playtime. I also hit the tank and the chopper for bonus points just to seal the deal.

Yeah I used that strategy then when going for all the mission tasks, works a charm, just enough time too to fulton everything.

Oh right but still, once you get the intel you do get the entire path and it takes them a while (including multiple stops) to get there.

Fuck the checkpoints in mission 4
7 - Total Stealth - The War Economy
. Surely after I extract the targets I could get a checkpoint. Followed them all over the damn airport, listened to all the conversations, then got spotted after completing 6/8 objectives.

So frustrating.

This mission was fun.
I just snuck into the truck and fultoned it when it made a stop after it triggered a chocking mine to stop the vehicle. lol.

Checkpoints are based on hidden borders on the map and cutscenes, like getting intel (guessing it's based on loading) so unless there is a cutscene based on certain objective, there are no checkpoints for it.

You don't need to follow them, across the tower there are a couple of small buildings that you can climb on the roof and oversee all 4 conversation locations. The difficulty of total stealth missions makes them the best.

The usual shit that happened to me was either guards running for cover from the rain or just forgetting to speak at all. Weather changing support ftw!

It's definitely fun
I snuck into the airport's control tower before the chopper arrived where the CFA official was waiting.

I hid behind some boxes until the Arms Dealer arrived. Then followed them both on the route to the south hangar and jumped in their truck as they made off to the north hangar.

Listened to their conversation there and then got a lift with them back to the control tower for the final conversation.

Just about snuck inside and heard them both leave for the chopper after the last conversation. Tranq'd them both and wormholed them.

Got discovered leaving the tower. FUUUU

I often wish the camera didn't pull in closer to Snake when you go into crouch stance. Really limits FOV inside buildings.

I agree... FOV... it would be nice if you could adjust this. For prone, crouch, inside and outside.

I'm at 94% completion and I feel like there is still a lot to do.

I miss a lot of code name, it's because I always play the same way I guess :/ Can I get new code name by repeating the same mission ?
Also, I miss 4 items in the R&D and I'm done. Need to extract some specialist because they were kicked out by the game...

No, same load out as I've used for all other S ranks. I haven't looked at the points screen in detail but I must be losing points somewhere. When I use the rocket launcher on the helicopter, it makes the sound alert sound, so maybe here?

Thanks guys. Those last three tanks are a bit of a trek so maybe I'm losing too much time here.

I was camping out that canyon as you suggested, but the rest, especially the horse bit, is genius.

I'll use my chopper instead of the rocket launcher on the helicopter, which I think was losing me points.

EDIT: I butchered the quotes, whoops.

Looks like I'm the only one who got a wonderful time with Mission 16. S Ranked it after some tries, it was hard but not really that much.
Same with mission 18, after realizing how stupid the AI for you-know-what was, I was blessed by my tranq gun and S Ranked asap.

It's so weird how this game is structured.
Afghanistan has two sections of three missions you can do in different orders that have minimal relations to the overall story. But then Africa hasn't had a section like that yet, even though most the missions in it have only had like one or two parts that mattered at all to the story. Why does the game get less open as it goes on?

Does the number of soldiers in a unit determine it's level or the rank of the members?

I feel like I'm blowing through GMP and resources just trying to keep my bases able to contain all the guys I fulton. I'm only on Mission 13 and have each one up to roughly capable of holding 65 soldiers or so in each classification (R&D, Intel, etc).

The last convo mentions Eli and his squad and how Eli was ordered to the village where you extract him by a guy known as the Gunsmith.

In the North hanger the Arms Dealer mentions using the airport for storing Nukes which the CFA guy wants nothing to do with.

Sounds like he just wants out, to get to Khambasa or sumit

Never thought about just scoping them out from afar and using the Dmic in the binoculars. That's why I love the gameplay..there's always another way.

I think Mission 8 or whichever has the 15 timer is bugged
If you drop into the LZ to the north and interrogate a soldier, he'll say that there's a prisoner being chased by a search team. But they don't ever appear on the map, even though it says it's updated. I've tried multiple times.

But, if you drop in the LZ to the south (near the Palace), and you interrogate a soldier (well, two) you'll eventually get told about the same prisoner and search team, but the map will update correctly. (They're by the north LZ)

Is it a time thing? Because I hung around the north and didn't see any search team + prisoners.

You'll get
combat deployment
soon if you don't already have it. Using that, just leave the game on and keep checking on it to grind out resources. You can get a lot of GMP, staff members and resources through this method.

Yeah im about fucking done with this game. Traitors caravan mission is the dumbest shit ive ever seen in any video game ever. I cant beat this shit. Ive been trying for 2 fucking hours and im about to say fuck it. Im starting to hate this game

A few good guides on YouTube for that mission.

So im only on mission 30 but what happens after you beat the main story? Is it game over? Restart from the beginning? Or is everything still the same? Just would feel like such a waste losing all my fultoned guys and weapons I made!
What if I told you it was new game plus but it wasn't.

Would that make sense?

Look up a guide for the how to get the specialist in that mission. It's bullshit, it's the only prisoner that doesn't show up on the map and is super the hell out of the way from the main objectives

Am I done with the game?
Found out I'm playing as Big Boss's phantom. Wasn't there more to chapter 2? What about Eli leaving with Sahenlenthropus? Wasn't I supposed to meet Paz (teased in the chapter 2 trailer)? I have completed all 50 missions. I am so confused. I've cleared all the important side ops.

Look for Paz in the medical bay. 3rd floor under the blue light. and yea.. unfortunately.. mission 51 that closes Elis story was cut.

Finally finished A Quiet Exit. Got annoyed from dying in one hit so I had Mother Base blow the last few tanks to hell.

Probably going to call that a playthrough after finishing up the Paz stuff. 50 hours, give or take.

Protip: a shot on each leg will leave every soldier squirming and incapacitated. You don't need to bother with tranq headshots.

Interesting bit about hold ups that I found while troweling the steam forums for news on the blueprint glitch:

Also another trick is that when you realise that they will not comply with the hold up, if you run out of there line of site they will turn around and try to knife you but then they will look puzzled and resume whatever they were doing as if it was all just their imagination.
