Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Is that all you understood from my post genius? I specifically explained other methods to achieve completion for the 'oh shit can't get out' crew.

No, I understood the rest of your condescending bullshit. I just pointed out the completely incorrect part of your post. Which was funny considering your attempt to dismiss the intelligence of others. Onto the ignore list you go, I guess.

I kinda like that, i think it was bold and brave

basically
the game reaches its climax with 31, and then progressively takes stuff away from you and slaps you in the face

Yep. Chapter 1 is about getting Revenge.

Chapter 2 is about the
emptiness that Revenge leaves you with.

So I went back to listen to some Peacewalker tapes on YouTube and... boy. I uh...I sort of thought Hayter's voice was shocking to hear. I think in my mind I was expecting Kiefer.

Legitimately had a moment where I forgot hayter did Big Boss previously.

The important stuff (specialists, blueprints) is labelled on the mission select menu. Soldiers with high stats is random and there is only really one companion you could possibly not notice and it pops up multiples, even outside of missions.

I was worried because I missed this exact companion lol thanks this was helpful :p

"My favorite video game this year is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Were it anything but a video game — a movie, a book, a television show, a Vine, anything really — I would despise it.

The game doesn't conceal its warts. An espionage adventure, set in Afghanistan and a vague location in central Africa in the 1980s, it treats historical real world conflicts with the subtlety and complexity of a sledge hammer, casually aligning its perverted and non-sensical conspiracy theory plot alongside events that led to the deaths of thousands across the globe. As social commentary, it's shallow at best, and repugnant at worst."

I don't see how anyone could disagree but I think you could apply that to most Metal Gear games, much less most video games.

He's not wrong but isn't this almost every other video game in the same genre though?

I feel like a lot of the discourse around this game is pretty damn negative.

So to counter that I must say I'm 60 hours in and I love nearly everything about the game... The one exception being the story. Then again I've never been a fan of Hideo's writing.

But they you'll see the ending and you'll be "Fuck that, i wasted 60hrs!"

I usually love Metal Gear's story, so this has been disappointing for a different reason (just not enough of it!) but I also love everything else about the game.

Finished mission 31.

Why is the game still going.

Plus, the plot is mindbogglingly bad. It's embarrassing almost. Thank god the gameplay is good.

Traitor's Caravan -
it may be because this is my second playthrough, but the Skulls fight isn't that hard. I jumped in a tank, reigned hell on them until it was about to explode, then moved onto the second. I didn't even need to move the tanks, just aim. I was left with only one Skull afterwards, who I just stood in front and took down with a non-upgraded LMG.

I think people have trouble because their first instinct is to fulton the tanks to get them out of the way. (Which is what I did the originally)

I can't believe they mad the decision to sprinkle in harder versions of old missions in between story missions in chapter 2. The shit feels disjointed as fuck and the game's story was already disjointed as fuck before that. My lord...

I honestly don't get the problem with Chapter 2, It took me near to no time to clear several side ops(I had to make like 5 of the Wandering Soldier ones so it took me like 2 minutes each, thanks DD for being an amazing radar) and hear the tapes. It wasn't a big deal at all, I thought I'd have to play HOURS of side ops and crap by the way everyone reacts in here.

I never touched any of the harder missions btw.

Trying to clean up some side ops before heading into mission 30. I've stopped getting new ones in Afghanistan just need to finish up Africa for now. Gotta call it at some point and just move on.

I'm also missing some relatively low-level cool shit for D-walker and other upgrades because I missed a specialist or two. That they have so many sub-categories of specialits and blueprints that you need to find just to unlock shit is crazy.

Same here. Not planning to do so until I have better gear.

I think with MGSV having the ending spoiled beforehand might work in its favour.

Someone spoiled me, and I didn't hate the ending at all. So maybe it's true? lol.

Everyone just hates
the final mission, now that's bullshit. But what pisses me off the most is the lack of Mission 51 in the game.

I am not sure how long I have even played, but this has been one of the worst slogs I can recall enduring. Part of me wants to drop it and get back to Mad Max, but another part of me wants to see it through because the gameplay can indeed be fun.

I really didn't have any problems against the
skulls
even the
sniper ones
...except for
EXTREME Metalic Archaea because of their damn rock throw. But once you get on the roof it's super easy.

Using the Strategy Guide, huh?

Here's how I approach it: fuck the main missions. I like deploying to the open world and just rampaging, doing whatever I feel like and generally indulging in sandbox hijinx like one would in Skyrim or Prototype. If need to unlock new side ops or stuff to develop, I go hit a main mission or two. They're so brutally short I ran 25 to 29 in like, an hour and a half. I think, like Skyrim and Prototype, this game is only fun in the long run if you like fucking around in a sandbox environment.

God help anyone who's playing this game for the story. Poor sods.

Why do enemies keep hearing my riot SMG bullets? I'll shoot a guy in the head who is nowhere near anyone else and a couple seconds later their radios go off saying they've detected unidentified enemy fire...

I honestly think so.

I think some people were so pissed at the game for betraying their expectations, they pretend (or honestly feel) those good 30 or 40 hours of genuine fun and awe never happened.

MGSV is like breaking up with your GF of 5 years on bad terms.
Whereas with most games you part ways as good friends after a fulfilling night of hot sex, MGSV slaps you in the face and tells you your dick was always too small anyway.

I saw
the twist
coming before the game was even released (then again, with Kojima people
can't help theorizing about every possible -and impossible- twist, so nothing can catch you off guard
) and had been playing the game with that in mind right from the start.

Plus, since I knew what mission number the ending would come, and i was getting closer and closer without much buildup, I also knew it would pan out like "play some random mission that feels as detached from the story as any side ops and then bam, finale pops up"
And sure enough that's exactly what happened.
In a way, that helped me not get mad at the game.

The only time I used the guide was on
EXTREME Metallic Archea
. And that was so I knew to
get on the roof.

I beat the
skulls
on 16 on my second attempt with a rocket launcher and running around a lot. The toughest part of 16 for me was
finding where the truck was
lol.

I bought this game day 1 and it is still sitting wrapped on my shelf. I'm stoked to play it (as it is my first MGS game ever) but a lot of these messages are delaying the experience for fear of it just being a mediocre game. Too many other great games are still on my list.

hey guys, I am in mission 12 or so, but I noticed some soldiers on my base have yellow bars above the normal stats making the stat better, but what does that mean? morale increase? training?

If you are new to the series you are gonna enjoy the game. No expectations... no knowledge of what is missing. Just go in and enjoy the gameplay. its phenomenal.

It isn't a mediocre game, not by any stretch. There is an awful lot of hyperbole flying about which is par for the course for hotly anticipated/big name games. The game plays incredibly well, gives the player a vast array of tools, and offers a stunning level of freedom in approaching missions however you want.

However, from what others have been saying (I haven't finished it yet so I can't pass judgement), you may find the story to be somewhat less than satisfying.

Ha! I think that Kojima was right that this was like a TV Series.

First season was amazing. Second season is good, but weird and not as good as the first one. Then the TV Station decided to cancel the show.

Edit: I agree, this game is a blast nevertheless. 70 hours in, and never getting bored!

I have a code for Canine for Mother Base. I was able to navigate a JPN account to get to the portion after you enter the code to see the DLC but I can't figure how to install it and all that. Can a Gaffer give me a hand?

Almost at the end of Chapter 1 now.. man the story take a turn. Still a really fun game though. Definitely feel like I got my $60 worth.

Game seems SO ripe for DLC though. New helicopters.. new vehicles.. new maps (would be nice).

Can I just say what the fuck is up with the Xbox One version of this game? Every time it rains, every time there's a bunch of fire-when the game's clearly loading something, the controls and audio freeze up. Shit sucks, especially during the
Man on Fire
boss fight.

Now that you mentioned it this game reminds me of Twin Peaks alot in that regard.

So, I ended on catching all animals, and:

-still security unit is around level 20, while other units barely reached level 50
-dispatch missions (yellow ones) keep failing and I need to wait 3 hours each time

Really, they could manage this much better, because this game is really based on grinding and waiting.
