Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

game worth playing after mission 31?
(no story spoilers below... just sort of gameplay spoilers I guess, describing the type of gameplay and amount of story)
sure but i would recommend slowing down or stop trying to just 'finish the story'.... treat it like you're already at the end-game, mostly focused on doing side ops and free roam, and that everything else is bonus content, and it's a lot better. it's not even really a new chapter... basically just post-ending wrap up scenes that try to tie V into MG 1-2 and MGS

i think a lot of disappointment comes from trying to play it like another main MGs story or something... it's just bonus content, really, like having unlocked New Game plus Subsistence mode or the extra post-ending Peace Walker missions to get the true ending. there's not a real full chapter narrative arc, even by Chapter 1 standards, let alone another MGS game.

I'm sure this has been asked a million times already, but what is the easiest and fastest way to get the real ending (after mission 32)? I just don't want to do those extra/harder/filler missions right now and I've read that you don't have to play any of them if you just do side-ops. Is that correct?

I got that impression based on how everyone talks about it. It shouldn't have even been called
"Chapter 2"
, instead it should have been called
"Epilogue"

It could also have been called Chapter 3 had they divided up the missions more evenly. Chapter 1 could have easily been split into two chapters with Mission 12 as the marking point for the split.

yeah, after episode
20 could have been another spot they could have split into a chapter.
but really they could have just dropped chapters altogether

After finishing the game today and thinking about it, I'd rank MGSV as my third favorite MGS game if we're talking overall.

MGS3 was imo the best one.
MGS1 was a classic and is easily on par with MGS1 but MGS3 was just divine.
MGSV comes in third because it's gameplay is amazing and the story while a bit disjointed and weird at times is good at times. I just wish they didn't structure it around missions and motherbase.
MGS4 was clearly the worst MGS game. I didn't even finish the ending. I turned it off when that old man came out in a wheel chair.
MGS2 I didn't finish.

MGSV is soooo good with gameplay, but the story was kinda disappointing...

Is it weird, but I am glad Kojima is done with MGS... I am just hoping that someone takes over and gives us some good ole story again

Ive seen so much blame for this put on Kojima... has he ever shipped an unfinished game? Is something different about this time? The game looks like it could have been twice as big if it was finished or could have been broken into pieces and sold episodically. Either way Konami was probably to be the one to force shipment, and the split probably meant Kojima didnt want to stay to finish an episodic series... so we got what we got.

The interruptions in this game are hilarious.

To be Continued....

*Is back in chopper safe and sound*

That shit was so dumb. If they wanted to make it open world, just keep missions flowing and make the chopper an optional main menu system that's basically an expanded Idroid menu.

I can't be in mid air danger one minute and then cut to me chillin with blood on my face listening to 80s music the next.

Just finished it with the true ending. Didn't even have to look it up to get it. That was something...

Guess it's time to finally check the spoilers thread.

Finished the story and I'm just amazed at how good this was, everything from the story to the gameplay and world left me speechless.

Seems Kojima took all the bitching and moaning at long cutscenes to heart so there are less of them but what is there is excellent and memorable. Between them and the (really well done) cassette tapes, it still felt like the same amount of story content I have come to expect of the series.

Oh and my mind was seriously blown at Episode
46
. Turning everything upside down, mind fucking, breaking the fourth wall, causing a fangasm overload, it basically had it all. What a way to
end the game
. I just sat there with my mouth open at how everything connected with pretty much every MG game.

The
Paz
part was such an excellent, though rather sad, touch. It's amazing how much more there was to those two scenes we saw so much of since the game's announcement
(GZ opening and TPP hospital scene)
when all is said and done.

Gotta mention Quiet too, what an excellent and badass character. I was in a media blackout for the game but still caught hate here and there due to her design. I really couldn't care less about crap like that, especially when a character is so damn good. Felt like a true comrad in arms. Though
losing her permanently
after completing a certain mission is a bummer, was worth it though for the story. Entered my top 3 gaming female characters list easily.

The gameplay is just insane though, the deep combat, insane amount of options (the buddy system is brilliant) and near endless way to handle situations. The open world and huge areas really add to the options at your disposal on how to approach an area and from where. Easily one of the best playing games I've ever had the pleasure of playing, can see myself returning to it for years to come.

My expectations for this game were ridiculous but somehow, though unsurprisingly, KojiPro delivered well beyond them. What a swan song for the team.

The cutscene when you return to Mother Base after getting the command platform to level 4 is hilarious. I am going to suffer withdrawal once the last side op has been completed.

A little too good honestly. It was making the game too easy plus the color sucked, so I switched back to the maxed stun arm. It's still insanely powerful plus it looks great with the sneaking suit.

Plus the fully charged Stun Arm is fantastic for taking care of a group of enemies that are all on-screen. Very good for Heavy Infantry side-ops or even
Mission 36 where you have to extract Code Talker's containers

Overall though the Rocket Arm has more uses, especially in tight situations.

I should upgrade my stun arm.

Wait, I didn't get this cutscene. What's it about?

I dont plan on doing all the repeat filler stuff either. Once I hit 32 I'm going to poke around to see exactly which side ops I need to do to unlock what I want to play.

Do I need to deploy a nuclear weapon for something besides the FOB usage?

I'm looking to platinum the game, but I don't know if this is needed for something

Just did Missions 45 and 46.
I'm done right? Nothing else to look at? I'll still play the game, wanna wrap up inconsequential Side Ops (like 30 of them) and maybe S rank missions.

I wanna rage about Mission 45. I had no idea any of that would happen and I'm so glad I went back and called equipment drops beforehand. Even then, one tank shell against fully upgraded Battle Dress doesn't save you from the pain. I still feel it.

Take it from me: Don't bother with the water pistol in F.O.B. invasions. Utterly useless. You can't use it against the cameras or sensors. It may be useful against mines (didn't try) but it's a waste of a slot. Use the Tranq or Lethal pistols instead.

Yo Mission 19 got weird. I think this is the first time the game has glitched out on me.

So I started the mission from free-roam after doing some side ops. It's the one where you have to follow one dude to get to the "major" whom he's going to meet.

I follow the first guy on foot (he's in a jeep). He get's to this one area where he changes vehicles. On my first attempt once he changed vehicles he didn't move. He just got stuck there for several minutes with the jeep sitting right outside the house where the prisoner (the missile guidance specialist) is being held. After getting the prisoner (without being seen) I try to sneak up to toss a sleep grenade into the jeep, but got spotted at the last second. I managed to knock out the guy I'm supposed to tail but got into a gun fight with everybody else. Quite shot a bunch of people, etc. Obviously I go the message about the major escaping on the helicopter and couldn't reach him in time. I couldn't deal with the helicopter because I wasn't close enough to shoot it and I didn't feel like supply dropping a rocket launcher.

My next attempt is where things got really weird. The check point brought me back to right when I extracted the prisoner (I'd carried him up a mountainside overlooking the village where the jeep had stopped before fultoning him). Now, all the guys in the jeep are alerted by some things. First a couple dead bodies, then a wrecked jeep. I don't know if those dead bodies stayed there from my previous attempt or if they're from when I cleared the base during a side op immediately before I started this mission. After checking out the bodies and the jeep the guy I'm supposed to tail doesn't get back in the jeep, but he apparently STARTS A NORMAL PATROL ROUTINE, AWAY FROM ALL HIS BUDDIES. This happens both times I reload the game. I don't know if he ever get's back in the jeep but he just wanders a bit outside the base, the walks back towards it. Before he could walk back towards it I interrogated him, the instant I did (even without alerting anyone else), the meeting is called off and the major makes his escape. This happened with both a CQC interrogation and a hold-up. See, I assumed this would be like the other mission where you had to follow a guy -- where you'd have a time limit before the main target figured out something was up.

Anyway, on my last attempt I just ignored the first guy and went straight to where he told me the major was and extracted him.

How is that mission supposed to go?

Wait, I'm confused, the guide says the game has
50
missions? I'm only on 26, still a long way to go.

If you really want to know,
after 31 the vast majority of the missions are repeats of older missions under conditions like higher difficulty or complete stealth only.

Chapter 1 ends in Mission
31
and Chapter 2 goes to the number you say but out of those missions in Ch2 only a few are mandatory story mission while the rest are completely optional and noncanonical making the second chapter much much shorter than Ch1 so worry not.

Just beat the game a second ago. Is that it?
Mission 31 defeating Sahelanthropus
? that's it?

Who's that puppet like floating person?
Who's the burning man who wants Big Boss dead? Why does he disappear after the final confrontation with big boss? What's Eli thinking when he got hold of the third bottle containing the language parasite? Are there any answers to these questions. Also are there any more store content?

Continue playing. There's
20 more missions to go. Do some Side Ops for missions to start popping up. There will be some repeat missions that can be skipped.

And yes, most of your questions will be answered.

I finished MGSV last night and I have to say concerning Quiet:
where did I have to feel ashamed of my words and deeds, guys? Maybe I skipped a side ops or one of those hard Chapter 2 missions and didn't see it. When I heard in Chapter 1 the reason for her stupid outfit was photosynthesis I was convinced it had to be a ruse. Kojima couldn't possibly give that as an excuse while also saying Quiet was the antithesis of the scantily clad videogame female character. All the game I was expecting a big reveal.

If she really needed exposed skin why even wear the leggings? Why none at all? Why keep a head of hair? Why not shave it? Nothing gets more sun than the scalp! Why didn't The End, who photosynthesised too, walked around half naked too?

Kojima had a great character on his hands and screwed it up by having her wear that (not even by Quiet's own will seeing she was turned into this by force and wanted to be normal which makes this even worse). Not to mention the male gaze camera and the shower scene making me difficult to take Quiet seriously.

Loved MGSV but it isn't perfect. Kojima's handling of Quiet is one of the bigger problems in this game, him playing it dead serious and promising a good reason for her dressing this way but then failing to deliver doesn't help his case at all. It worsens it.

At least EVA did what she did out of her own free will, no one forced her and we didn't get promised a powerful vindication that explained her ways.
