You can't go into missions with no equipment. You still need a primary and secondary pistol. The only way to remove those is with a mod that makes the game a "Subsistence"-like mode.

Oh right, I forgot you can't completely remove your primary and secondary weapons. That is pretty lame.

Are there any other aspects of Subsistence missions that you can't replicate by turning off Reflex and going into a mission with no equipment? I see a lot of people wanting more of them (I do too), but it seems pretty easy to replicate.

And you can also replicate total stealth by restarting from a check point every time you get caught.

Well, you can choose not to use those weapons. Just use whatever you find out on the field.

True words. Being naked is challenging and fun, especially after researching all the crazy stuff.

Man imagine if you could make custom levels and send them out to friends or some shit like a Hitman contracts mode or something. God that would be some fun shit.

Actually mod support with Map or at least mission editor would be the shit. Also: co-op instead of a buddy. Imagine the tension of infiltrating a military complex with a friend. You could literally play a Sniperteam with spotter and shooter.
*sigh* What could have been. MGSV makes me sad.

need more subsistence missions

Yeah, instead of "repeating" the missions late in the game, they should have added "Subsistence", "Extreme", & "Total Stealth" option to all the missions instead of doing them as their own separate missions.

I guess Kojima didn't want the requirements for 100% to be finishing all missions 6 times with Normal/Extreme/Subsistence/Total Stealth + all mission tasks + S Rank. Which I understand, but he could have avoided that by not making these modes a requirement for 100%, but as a bonus for the series veterans that want something to do after 100%ing the game.

At least the subsistence modifiers can be modded into every mission.
"Subsistence Mode toggle. Lets you go into any mission or free roam with same restrictions as subsistence missions, or with just a secondary of your choice.
Comes in two profiles: Pure - as the missions. Bounded - which allow Buddy and changing Suit (which should also allow model swaps)"

nice!

new tabs: subsistence ops, stealth ops, extreme ops. Done

Every mission should have the option for Extreme/Total Stealth/Subsistence. I restarted almost every mission whenever I got caught in my regular playthrough so my playthrough was total stealth. But subsistence doesn't feel great to replicate. Even if you go in with the worst assault rifle and the worst pistol and the mindset to not use them it just isn't the same as being able to deploy with nothing and having no options.

That, or even just like Peace Walker, instead of getting the option to choose the difficulty, you get to choose the mode.

Don't make them a requirement for 100% and boom, nobody would complain about them, & we can play those modes in all missions peacefully.

there's no variant endings. There are 3 sequential endings. Anyways, just play side ops and listen to all your yellow marked tapes (i think?) and ocelot should call you about huey eventually. Make sure you do yellow marked side ops, too. It just sort of happened to me eventually after doing like 8 of them.

Thanks that explains a lot :D

I know with all the recent developments, it doesn't seem likely, but I feel the game is perfectly poised for a story DLC expansion to close off the game and tie up the glaring loose ends.

I may be part of the problem, but after spending 200 hours on the game, I don't mind paying a bit for a new area to explore, doing missions and side ops all the while giving the game's story some proper closure.

It probably would have caused a ton of backlash but I wonder if the game would have benefited from a StarCraft 2 model. There is enough content in the prologue/Ch1 to justify a purchase (for me, anyway), and Ch2+ could have been separate releases later.

I think there's a bug with the Materials Engineer Specialist from Mission 14. I can't seem to successfully extract him and it give me the skill. No matter if I successfully fulton him or take him to a helicopter, he doesn't join my staff so I can't upgrade the Battle suit stuff at all. :(

So I just tried this and it did not work. I picked up the blueprint and called in my helicopter and it says I do not have the blueprint.

Be careful with those blueprints, there's a glitch tied to them that'll prevent them from spawning (if you died after you picked up the blueprint, restarted the mission after picking it up or reloaded a checkpoint after picking it up, the blueprint will no longer be there but it won't be registered as having been picked up either) so 100% is then unattainable.

That makes me scared. I have all but 1 blueprint. Not sure what it is and I remember dying after picking up a blueprint at some point.

I figured it out I just had to trigger one cut scene then when I quit out I had it. That glitch sounds like the worst.

just finished mission 29 and have 50% completion since I don't like to have pending side-ops missions I usually do them as soon as they are available.

I've heard people saying they finished the game with 30% completion with sounds crazy to me, anyway I am enjoying the game and didn't mind the new silly plot development they reveal in these missions 28 and 29.

anyway, am I close to finish the story?

Kinda, depends on how you approach things after Mission 31. I had at least 10 hours of playtime before I saw the ending cutscene.

Fakel grenade launchers can be attached to most rifles. You can eventually get smoke, stun and sleep versions of it too. Also look for upgraded suppressors. Scopes and laser sights are nice too.

I can't buy such parts individually right? only as part of other weapons so I can't buy a specific laser scope or suppressor, I will have to buy a weapon that contain them?

There's always the water pistol. It's a shame there isn't a water grenade launcher to equip as your primary.

Is your base limited to only 700 people? Just finished mission 8 and I'm wondering if this will increase. I imagine my level E soldiers aren't that useful, but I'm just used to Fultoning everyone.

Build a FOB. Buy Coins. Build more FOBs. Realize that Konami robs you. Buy alcohol. Sob.

Do more missions and get more herosim so you find better ranked people to fulton. Eventually you will get to expand your MB and get a FOB to get more people.

Subsistence and total stealth modes are awesome, especially when you turn off enemy tagging.
Thinking about doing a 'no motherbase' run in the future, maybe.

All my supressors have low durability. Do you unlock upgrades to allow them to last longer? It gets tiresome having to call in a supply drop all the time to avoid firing and being caught.

Just finished it, and
the extra ending
. Freakin' loved it. Not sure why people dislike Chapter 2, it just felt like a continuation to me and I only had to do a couple of the extreme/total stealth whatever missions so it didn't feel like a grind. If anything, Chapter 2 was more exciting.

The Quiet ending was pretty sad though, if not fitting for the character. The "true" ending was awesome, how Ocelot helped to pull it off blew my mind. The passport saying my name was genius, I had a huge smirk on my face for that entire chapter
.

One thing I wish you could do is unequip everything except the tranq gun. I don't need a rifle to kill people when I'm fultoning everyone and I can't even stick a suppressor on the non-lethal rifle.

Missed opportunity to not have a variant of the D-Walker's
fulton grenades
be water bombs.

There are certain pistol/assault rifle/smg types that unlock stronger suppressors when you develop them. Once you do (and have customisation unlocked), you can put that better suppressor on any weapon of the same type.

You're filling up your base with trash. :p The more you play the better the soldiers in the field will get. You'll end up replacing all of those E (and D and C and B and A...) soldiers in time.

About the staff limit increase:
you get a second base around mission 22/23 and can then buy additional bases and expand your staff limit for real money (I think it's ~20€ per additional base).

I just hit mission 6 last night. It's an amazing evolution of stealth gameplay. The best thing is that shooting for the first time feels really good even though I never want to do it. My biggest complaint thus far has been the prologue. The herky jerky camera made me throw up big time. I almost couldn't get past it.

Have not posted in the OT's yet because I have been playing sinds day 1 but wanted tell everyone that I'm finally on the 50% mark:

struck me last night as I sort of did a every-base-in-Afghanistan free roam circuit just how good the level design is... the layout of guardposts in particular make a lot of sense, as if designed by someone who actually spent time demoing each one as a defender.

Heh. I wonder if you can actually truly clear out the whole world map and have nothing respawn.

Wait so how does this game measure percentage complete? What's missing from your guys percentages that makes them so low?

Animals, Certificates/Key Items, S-ranking missions, Side-Ops, Combat Deployment Story Missions...

Basically percentage is nothing but a number if you only care about finishing the game.
