Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Oh I see. Thanks guys.

I'm only around 4 hours in -- started playing on Sunday night. Really loving it so far, even though the last MGS game I played was 3 back on the PS2.

Heh. I wonder if you can actually truly clear out the whole world map and have nothing respawn.
I think so... I always save in the ACC so I've never fully cleared it out 100% but last night I did much between the Palace, Relay Station, and all of Central Base Camp and OKB... it was getting pretty quiet and empty. Needed a change of scenery though so didn't have the ambition for Supply Cam, that north-east ruins or whatever it's called and the mountainside town, etc... but there was a solid sort of two path swath that I cut through the map and back, and it was pretty barren after lol

Has anyone tried doing a second playthrough of the story missions yet? How does that work out?

Do you still see all the cutscenes or do some get skipped?

I'm kinda guessing we have to start from scratch to get the full effect again.

HAHA. You get the whole shit, including tutorials. Weep and despair!

I've done a bunch now and a few cutscenes are missing here and there... usually stuff back at Mother Base. Some missions do include the stuff back at MB but others don't. And of course you miss the sort of general Mother Base busywork scenes that are based on things like morale, invasions, buddies, smell, etc rather than missions, and most post-mission (pre-next mission) radio chatter (but all the actual mission radio chatter, e.g. Ocelot teaching you about a Black Carrot) remain.

I don't know if it's just the PS3 ver. but I NEVER got told about plants after the first one of each. I probably wouldn't pick so many if I did.

It's shitty, you have to delete your save manually. Peace Walker was planned out much better in that regard, could rewatch scenes from the menu, see all scenes when you replay, create multiple saves, Tpp has none of that.

A pc mod that connects all the main story missions with cutscenes would be awesome

Yeah it's not great. For example you can watch the scenes where you collect and enable Quiet but not the ones of DD. Plus only the unimportant side ops can be replayed, occasionally when the game feels like letting you.

drk said that there were cutscenes and other story elements that are only triggered on a first playthrough, so you would only be seeing cutscenes as they pertained to a mission's scripting.

also the fact (HUGE ENDGAME SPOILER)
that quiet leaves forever
after mission 45

I've just finished it, done all the main missions and a good chunk of side ops and I've just hit 47% and 81 hours lol.

I'm at 45% after 42 hours *shrug*

Everyone simply has a different pace at which they play video games, that's nothing new and even more noticeable in huge games like this one.

Just finished last SideOp. Had to do bunch of Armored Vehicle/ Tank Unit missions in a row and have to say that those are the worst. Also there is way too many SideOps. Could easily cut atleast 5 out of every missiontype.

They aren't that bad. Just slow and tedious. Prone all the way to the one-two tanks. Fulton Wormhole them. Since Wormholes are generally silent you won't alert the patrol or snipers. Take out snipers. Take out patrol. Rocket Launch the ENEMY CHOPPER. ONE BURST FROM IT'S MAIN GUN WILL CUT A MAN IN HALF. BE CAREFUL BOSS.

Is it possible to do a 'no MB expansion' run? I know Miller automatically establishes platforms etc but a bare-bones playthrough would be interesting imo.

Well none of the sideops are that bad but having to do bunch of the same ones in a row sucks and I got really sloppy by the end and got spotted all the time. Usually I take out snipers and patrols first and then fulton the vehicles. Also seriously I head that line so many times in a row holy shit. Bunch of times it came with reflex mode making it even dumber.

Armored/Tank Unit missions don't start to truly suck until
GET DOWN, AN ENEMY CHOPPER becomes your average Peace Walker boss in how many hits they take to kill even with the strongest rocket launcher.

Pretty sure you can, yeah.

for the most part, yeah... especially with Markers On, the game is already rather easy. so limiting your upgrades is actually pretty fun...

i'm replaying most of the Missions now purposely using the upgraded default weapons and the base M2000 hunting rifle, and it's actually a lot of fun. I'm replaying missions with my own forced Subsistence ruleset too and it's pretty cool... makes you act pretty creatively... I snuck into one outpost and I took out the guards with their own mortar barely 15 feet away, took their AKs as my first weapon.

there may be a couple missions in particular that really require certain items or upgrades (I'm mostly thinking the fulton upgrade or rocket upgrade) but even those are do-able without, and you can probably afford/unlock those in time with just a 1/4 R&D

I just roll with the Fulton Ballista on D-Walker.

You want less non-narrative stuff? You must have hated Substance. :)

I just want less copy paste missions. There is like 30 Armored Vehicle/ Tank unit missions which even overlap in locations sometimes. Half would have been more than enough considering they are the same missions. Only difference being other has two tanks and other has two AVs.

Actually liked Substance alot or atleast I assume the MGS2HD was the Substance version.

they're great for free roam... i mean, they're just there to give you stuff to do if you're already interested in free roaming... unrelated-to-missions/story type stuff. if anything i wish there were more now since it's fun to fight tanks or heavy infantry in different random areas or set-ups.

but yeah very copy/paste definitely not story missions, i wouldn't get hung up on them when doing the story. just do then if you're in the mood to free roam.

All this talk about Armored Unit Missions, I hope you guys aren't neglecting the Serval AMR. Pure Helo destruction from >500m at 60 rounds per minute.

Some of those missions actually stay open so you can do them again if you want to try stuff with them. I don't understand the need for having this many of them as 'mandatory'. I don't mind having non-story stuff but would have preferred little more unique stuff than "insert mission name" 014. I just went through around 10 of those missions back to back so that probably makes me more frustrated at them than I should be.

Don't have it yet. Also I need to fulton everything. EVERYTHING. So don't really want to destroy tanks.

Anyone ever stow away in a truck, and then at some point the truck stops at an outpost like normal...but the dude has trouble getting the truck started again. So the two guys switch and the other guy gets the truck running again.

At least the gameplay and details in MGSV are still top notch.

Any reason to keep extracted weapon emplacements and not just sell them? Any reason to keep more than one of each vehicle type?

I guess some vehicles are used for combat deployment missions, and sometimes you would want to use any yourself. But other thatn that it's just for you to steal and sell.

I've used vehicles a few times, usually to get from a-b faster if I'm using d-dog and not the horse.

Or if I need to block a road for certain missions.

Constantly going back the chopper eventually became tiresome, and I started having more fun getting around the maps from one mission or side op to the next by jacking random passing trucks and driving to the next objective rather than just "warp" there via chopper.

FUCK MISSION 16

Seriously, any tips to
steal the truck from those damns skulls?

-Head to airport first via jeep or horse
- hop the fence behind the truck and eliminate the surrounding soldiers without getting too close to the truck
- get close enough for the skulls to pop out, run around to get some distance between them and the truck
- sprint back to the truck, fulton, and leave using door in fence to jeep/horse out of hot zone

My method was shooting them with a grenade and rocket launcher, as well as using the (now) empty tanks. But I saw another method on a YouTube video after finishing this same level. I can't find the exact video, but here it is simply:

Equip Quiet with the Wicked Butterfly and stay the fuck away from where you find the truck.

Order two bombardments on both tanks. This triggered the cutscene on the video.

Use the binoculars to find every Skull. They should all be stationed in one spot. They won't move unless they see you.

Order Quiet to fire at each one.

DONE.

Fulton Cargo +2 Mission 10 Question
So I rescued the first 3 prisoners in the abandoned building, and one of them is suppose to be the transportation specialist. For some reason it's not unlock. Do I have to scan them to trigger this?

Cut content. Only used in Combat Deployment.

Great, ****ing beautiful :/ And how do you assign it to the squad? I don't even know how to assign any vehicles to them even though I have a full garage filled with apcs and tanks. Only a few "story" deployments required vehicles and they were always picked automatically.
