Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

It's funny though that the sandbox nature of the game is so strong that you can notice how intricate a mission is 'first-time' on some levels whereas on others you luck into a really effective way of beating it and you're like 'that was it?!'

I just assume now that every mission has more layers than an onion. I'm really looking forward to beating the game and playing the levels not to beat them, but to explore them and get the secondary objectives.

I cleared one mission by essentially running straight into an enemy base, throwing smoke everywhere, then jumping in a jeep and driving off with the prisoner in the back in the confusion. Mission complete. I think you're supposed to tail him or something.

It should be possible, because
one of the bonus objectives is to recover a blueprint from the chopper. Lolol.

This is seriously a gem of a mission in terms of sandbox design.

Omg no way, I totally missed that. Thanks very much... That is one of my favorite episode's. Amazing design, did you
climb the huge red tower and look across the airport, awesome view

I actually managed to
extract both targets without being seen, but someone saw the Fulton balloon and shot it down. So I had to put him to sleep, but it was the last shot of my suppressor. My second extraction attempt worked, but a guard saw me and my unsuppressed tranq pistol set off an alert.

Cue the BIGGEST FUCKING SHITSTORM I've ever seen in this game so far.
Everybody was yelling and running in circles, helicopter was aggro'd, mortars everywhere. I think there was a pissed off walker gear or two in there somewhere as well. I'm normally good at fleeing this stuff but I was trapped in the corner of the airport. I had to create a small 'path' of smoke grenades to make it out of my little hidey hole, and then I still had the damn gunship chasing me around the perimeter of the airport until I managed to lose it.

It took a couple of tries because I was starting to fuck up from tiredness, but when I finally completed the mission
I sneaked all the way in from the right side of the airport. I took out two guys on walkers silently, fultoned them without being spotted, and stashed the walkers away in the hanger. I crawled under the truck and planted 8 C4s (lol) as insurance in case I failed it to it right this time. Waited for the two motherfuckers I arrive. Let them have their chat before taking them out with tranq pistol, and I even managed to fulton both without the gunship spotting me.

It seemed all good... then somehow as I was sneaking out of the hanger the gunship spotted me. FUCK. Lucky I had those two walkers stashed away, because I got into one and just ran the fuck out by the entrance, shooting everything in my way. I reached the jeep I parked outside the airport. Got into it, and then BAM the gunship destroyed it. Somehow I survived, and ran back to the walker in red health and managed to just barely outrun the gunship out of the hot zone.
When shit goes south, it can go south really quick. :p

This may be a really stupid question, but can I go back and redo missions? At work so I haven't tried.

You can redo any main op you have completed at any time. You can only redo side ops you have completed when they become available again randomly.

Hmm, I wonder if I'm screwed (about Quiet)
I got two good shots at Quiet but ran because I didn't want to kill her. Is that it? Will I never get to recruit her now?
Is there another chance? Can I even reload?

You can re-visit the main op mission and recruit her.

Got a foxhound and butterfly emblem on my last two missions.

I think that's this first time in my MGS playing history that I ever got something resembling a Foxhound rank.

So what's the advantage to playing a mission as someone other than Snake? Is it simply to take advantage of a particular Specialist Skill, or can you rank up MB members ranks this way?

Man the "auto focus" of the int-scope and rifle scopes is really really shit.

If there is ANYTHING in front of what I wanna see it's gonna blur out the background.

So like if I am trying to snipe some one and there are powerlines between us the game is gonna "focus" on the powerlines because they're closer and blur out the target behind it. It's really annoying.

Really late in the game spoilers, as in close tl the very end.

There's no way to sbort mission 45, damn it I wanted to do the last 3 missions before it.

I'd appreciate it if every time I fall to my death doing the R&D target practice challenge, I didn't end up back to the command platform. Kojima please.

I was so bad at MGS2 and 3 that I make Drew 'grenades are stealthy' Scanlon look like Big Boss. It's weird because I was great at MGS1, I had the PC version and actually cleared the VR missions before I ever touched the main game. But in MGS1 you can kill every guard stealthily with neck snaps and never worry about the consequences. Hiding bodies and staying out of sight was not my strong point, and I never understood how camo and CQC worked in 3. It all just felt like an inconsistent frustrating mess.

But after watching Uknighted stream for a while I basically had a revelation and realized how you're supposed to play these games. When I finally got around to 4, while I hadn't actually watched them play that game, I had a better understanding of why nonlethal was good and how camo worked. I haven't revisited 2 and 3 yet but I bet I'd be good at them now.

Anyways, cue MGS5 where I have all that knowledge on top of controls that aren't awkward as fuck and I get S ranks more often than not. Feels good.

The missions just keep getting better and better, incentivizing one to explore outposts en route to main objectives, changing the way missions play out. It's also fun scanning areas for audio to find new cassettes. Sometimes it gets so over the top, but I am getting really, really good at the stealth game. If I didn't have to keep tending to the grill and sides and guests I'd be so much farther. I love this game as much as I enjoyed Witcher 3. Which was a lot. Kojima still go it. Glad the series is going out on a high note. The very first MG on the NES was my jam.

I like the game a lot but I can't help but feel its the weakest overall game in the mainline games. It has the best gameplay for sure, but the story and everything else brings it down imo and just makes it much less memorable than the other ones.

So Idle Thumbs confirmed this game is "The New Far Cry 2."

this game is actually fun though, as someone with ZERO interest in ubisoft checklists. And I haven't run into any fully game-breaking playthrough-ending bugs yet so it has that over Far Cry 2 at least.

I am starting to get a bit worn out on side missions so I'm probably going to make a hard push on the story tonight after I'm done my workout. I'm curious why everyone is shitting on it considering how many great gameplay moments I've had up until now. It's not like anything will be able to erase the fun I already had but hey we'll see. Maybe Revolver Ocelot will crawl out of my computer screen and take a piss on my cat, that's about what it would take.

What what?! Just picked up (song spoiler)
Snake Eater

I did the same actually. Sometimes I wonder why I'm clearing a generic outpost for the 500th time (outside of capturing A+ soldiers) and then something like this happens.

Well for one, there's a trophy/achievement for it!
Nice!

I have played only once with a female S+ soldier and she was awesome, very fast.
S+ what the deuce?!

A couple additional questions:

1. What does the 'x' next to a staff members name mean? Does that indicate they can't be used because they are on a combat deployment?
2. Is there any way to permanently assign members to a particular unit? It seems like the game randomly assigns members to a unit for each mission, and then I have to manually go in and adjust.

Ha! I'm on MGS3 of Solid Scanlon and he does favor his grenades.

I too, got really good at MGS1. Played that official Playstation Magazine demo like crazy and got good.

Never found my footing with 2 or 3. I wasn't bad by any means but I wasn't a fox. Did ok in 4 but if things went bad I dealt with it because of the better shooting controls.

Also, Splinter Cell should me what a true stealth experience was and now we've come full circle with MGS5 taking the reins back.

Yeah, I'm getting more s-ranks too.

I've been reading reports that Crying Sturgeon won't show up from Ground Zeroes. I'm playing a new file with the transfers, just beat Mission 12, and he didn't show up. did anybody get this guy?

Is "the best is yet to come" on the game as a tape? Would love to have that.

Also, was there some legal stuff involving the main MGS2 and 3 theme way back when? Thought I remebered something happening with it. Feel like it wasn't in 4 and I'm curious if it's here.
