Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Has someone posted a list of missions to S-rank with Quiet
before she leaves/dies/whatever
? I ask because I think I'll eventually want to 100% the game, but I'd hate to go back to replay an extremely difficult mission that would've otherwise been easy
had I used Quiet
.

Thanks for any tips.

I'd like to know this too, getting to this point at game myself.

I'm curious what the initial 5 open world zones were that were planned for the game.

In game, if using a VERY loose definition of "zones" we could say there are Afghanistan, Africa, Motherbase, and the hospital (but come on, the hospital?)

Lets assume the hospital doesn't count, and that Ground Zeroes was originally meant to be a part of the main package (ala MGS2). That has us at 4.

Do you think the 5th would have been the island in episode 51? There is something about this game that just makes me wish there was more to it. It would have been so great to revisit Camp Omega in MGSV. Even just one more zone would have elevated the game by a huge margin.

Actually it was intented that you would have returned to Camp Omega in TPP. It was mentioned in some interview and you can actually see the Camp Omega prison area in one of TPP trailers. Island of episode 51 would probably be the fifth area. Can't imagine any other being made.

edit.

I'd like to know this too, getting to this point at game myself.

All the missions are easy to S-Rank even without Quiet. Mission 29 and 42 are probably only ones where I would recommend to get Quiet with you since she makes those missions trivial as long as you have best rifle for her.

Quiet is never the answer to S ranking any mission

When it comes to S ranking D horse is king

You have to remember that the trailer was released before Ground Zeroes came out

If you feel that you need her to S rank missions then use the
Butterfly in your emblem and she will never leave. Just remove it from your emblem once you are certain that you want to let her go.

Tbh I'm glad that they kept Camp Omega unique to GZ, makes GZ feel more special and worth revisiting.

That's essentially what I think it'd be as well. As much as I would have loved it, the Siachen Glacier map was an impossible dream from the beginning.

You have to remember tha tthat trailer was before Ground Zeroes came out

Though the actual animation was from TPP.

Tbh I'm glad that they kept Camp Omega unique to GZ, makes GZ feel more special and worth revisiting.

I guess, but since it was included in MGO; GZ has already lost its claim to it, in a way. Since it's fairly easy to view them as being part of the same game, having some sections in TPP use Camp Omega might as well be like Snake Tales using the Tanker map in MGS2.

That's why I usually ignore stuff like that in games.

Once I saw that RE: Revelations 2's Raid mode was throwing areas from RE6 and other games in the series at me I was like nope and didn't bother with it at all.

Whoever came up with the idea of tapes at KojiPro for Peace Walker solved their problem of long cutscenes, a lot of those tapes are so good in MGSV (the Chico tapes, Paz tapes and others I won't mentioned due to spoilers) that I would take them over cutscenes any day. This again involves the player more, where his or her imagination fills in the blanks and then some.

I agree. Tapes are one of the best additions to the series. I love seeing more tapes unlocking and always rush to the ACC to listen to them. Even the long Code Talker ones. They're just like a more convenient codec call. Although I would've loved to see a few events as proper cutscenes like the
Truth
tapes, but most of them work well because they are tapes and are left to our own imagination like the Codetalker bell tape.

Also one of the best advantages of there being tapes: You can recap the story anytime you want.

I wish it was imported straight into TPP just so that you could try those missions with all the new items implemented in TPP. It would be fun to explore the camp with all of those gameplay options.

I'm imagining just horse stealthing my way all the way through a mission.

How the hell can i finish the "Eliminate the Dictator" dispatch mission?
I had 1 S++, 2 S+ and 7 S and i lost... + my S++ died.
How do i get this?

BTW:
In the guid it says it's a "A" Mission, but for me it's a "S" mission :-/

I just kept throwing soldiers at the missions til they succeeded

Don't use you S+ or S++ guys since the success rate doesn't get that much higher with them and you will lose one or two everytime. I threw A - A+ teams and eventually it was successful.

Uhm, I just dropped a couple of supply drops on Quiet, and the game just told me to continue with the side-op I was originally on. Shouldn't I get to fulton her or at least get a cutscene?

I'm on mission
31
but have an endgame question about Quiet.

I know she leaves at some point towards the end of the game and you don't get her back. If I want to 100% the game, what's the ideal point where I should stop the story missions and try to take care of everything else? I want her sniper support just in case anything gets too tricky.

My friend told me this morning that when he booted the game, he was 1,000,000 GMP in the red. He had over 500,000 GMP last night when he stopped playing, and was never invaded. Does anyone know what could have caused this?

He was probably playing offline. You drop in the red if you do that now.

There's only one explanation

1. That's incredibly fucked if true.
2. He has always played online.

Could there be any other reason? Or could it be a bug?

Maybe he had problems connecting to the server that one time?

It's ridiculous but it's happened to me. "Failed to log into server" *Motherbase immediately in the red*

So I was played like a damn fiddle?

This feels like a cliffhanger more than a real ending, tell me this is not it!

Also did I loss permanently Quiet? like really?

That one was so damn good
I pretty much went silent and felt every ring when he dropped the bell at the end.

The tapes made the Skull Face character to me, when he spoke I listened. Both the GZ and TPP tapes with him were excellent. That extends to
Zero and Paz
as well.

And agreed on the recap, though it's unfortunate that doesn't extend to the main story as well so you have to play a new game from scratch if you want to experience the story again. Probably my only major complaint with the game. Though I do understand why they did it and in the end it gave a certain character a lot more impact.

yeah that's how I learned not to risk Razor Hedgehog because I'm tired of replaying M46 to re-recruit any lost S++ soldiers lol

just keep sending S ranks and use the 'manually select' option to big guys that maybe are higher S ranks than others (their 'bar' is taller and closer to S+)... or, for that matter, make sure you don't send any 2 medal guys you don't want to risk either.

I have some weird curse of not being able to get a transportation specialist. I am at 20% completition and it's becoming a real blocker as I can't do the fulton upgrade. I even have Mech and Portugese specialists.

I just did mission 15 where they listed a Transportation Specialist. I made sure not to kill anyone but to balloon everyone back home. Still no transportation specialist.

Concentrate on fultoning the prisoners.

I fultoned all the prisoners in Mission 10 and got one from first try.

Iirc I also got one both the times I finished Mission 16.

Finally. I almost gave up after the patch since it changed the way resources are used to develop
nukes
. I made it though.

Took me 148 hours. Random thoughts with spoilers where needed:

Game was truly amazing. I'll wait a bit to decide if it is my favorite Metal Gear game, but it is by far my game of the year. Only Fallout 4 or maybe No Man's Sky will have any chance to dethrone it for me. Gameplay was top tier and I loved the story too even though I know some of you didn't. Ending was great.

My strategy was to play through and enjoy the missions without trying to S Rank them and then go back and replay once I knew what to do. Missions were fairly easy to S Rank the second time around. Only a few took me more than a couple tries. Same for mission tasks with the very hardest for me being the 'listen to the conversation' tasks. All of those seem really glitchy. I only really had trouble with two other mission tasks. The first in mission 40 :
Neutralize Quiet with Non-Firearms. Probably tried 10 different things and eventually learned you can use anything against her and only the very last hit needs to be non-firearm damage. I got lucky though because I was using NVG and she was on one of the towers and I saw a glowing rock. Shot it and it collapsed on her snagging me the task completion.
The other was in mission 45 :
Fulton all the armored vehicles. Yeah. This did take me quite a while even though I S ranked the thing on my first try by blowing them all up. I ended up just calling in sandstorms and using stealth camo and even that was tough.

One thing I really loved about the game is how missions play out in completely different ways depending on your approach. Definitely one of the best open world games I've ever played in this regard.

As for FOB's, I've never been infiltrated one time. Ever. The only infiltration I did was just to get the trophy so not sure if that has any bearing on it or not. This is on PS4. Also, I used all the free MB coins I got from the daily login bonus to instantly upgrade my FOB as much as possible on the later tiers. Had about 550 and that got me 4 instant upgrades I think. Didn't buy any coins and never will.

Kinda sad that this is almost certainly the last Metal Gear that Kojima will be involved in. I definitely hope we get some kind of game using this engine in the future though. It would be a terrible waste to just drop it completely.

So What is this whole Mosquito Legacy thing that was in the update notes? Is that someone's actual base or just a generated event for us to do?

Prisoners, huh? Thanks, will redo a mission and make sure no prisoner is left behind!

This is really starting to stand out more now as I replay Missions a lot more and just generally free roam. I think sometimes during the story it could be easy to fall into routine: either direct stealth, tranq, fulton everything if you really want to handpick recruits (especially at lower Heroism), or, if you're getting ancy for story/action, just sniper/rocket and run and gun everything.

But now that I'm sort of done with any sort of story or gameplay progress goals, and I'm replaying Missions more just to experiment with different things, the variety is really great. Different time of day can result in such different NPC conversations or behaviour. Artistically, some scenes are just dramatically different at night during a rainstorm versus a clear sunny day. Experimenting with NL assault rifles, the base M2000 sniper rifle with no silencer.... smoke grenade laucher and riot NL SMG.... pure shotguns... this is really fun because I almost NEVER used shotguns or LMGs during the story... and mines, trying to 'hide in the back of a truck' for every mission, try to sneak using a box for every mission, force yourself to play each Mission with Subsistence rules... I had this cool little one where I had no weapon yet and waited until patrol went to stand by the campfire with some guards, and the two sleeping guards woke up and everyone was sort of near the tent, and I crawled up using a box and then quickly used a mortar launcher that was barely 12 feet away lol and used that to fire straight up and kill everyone ;p got myself an AK and some ammo to use, subsistence style.

those are my favorite right now.... either just a base MRS-4 and WU tranq and try use just those; Subsistence rules where I only use what I find; or a base M2000 hunting rifle with no silencer and a shotgun

there are so many sort of alternative items or weapons that I think fall out of the obvious maybe top 3-5 weapons/items that get the most use but still have pretty cool utility. the only truly useless thing for me is the animal bait... I can't get it to work, no matter how many times I throw it... I've ever hit guards in the head with it and had the 'smell' stuck to them... throw in numerous times anywhere between 5 to 25 feet from animals... it never lures them ;O

So can we control anything regarding the PF fake battles? My grade/rank used to be in the 400000 range and it suddenly got bumped to 77000 something today.

Congrats! At 89% myself. I never really try to complete games but this game is just too much fun even after 150 hours. Shame this is the last Metal Gear. :[

prioritizing your Combat and Security units help boost your chances... I started taking S to S++ RD, BD, Intel, etc units that had A++ or S Combat and putting them into Combat or Security so that basically I maximized those two units... both are almost 200/200 A++ or higher now, and I think I'm pretty close to 200/200 all S rank or higher. seems to help a lot win PF Rank matches. sometimes I still lose though even if my Defense is notably higher than their Offense, but since the FOB patch I basically won 100% of my matches in my most recent one (my parings seem easier, dunno if the 'who wins' formula changed).

.

This was a big stand out during my second play through, the areas felt so well and intricately designed. Take a different approach or route and it feels like a whole new area.

OKB Zero
in particular impressed me, I went from a slightly different side and found myself climbing through multiple holes in various walls and ended up in a water tunnel of sorts that got me to the goal area from a completely different side. Even the way I entered the final area was completely different.

Also really like how weather plays into the flow of play in real time, like if I hear the report of sandstorm approaching then my strategy changes completely.

Oh so it's based on your staff. Makes sense since it's grading your PF. But I had the same ranking staff before and it just suddenly changed, maybe they changed their who wins formula like you said.

It's used for the capture cages I think. It definitely helped with getting rare animals when I would throw it in the center of a ring of capture cages. Pretty sure it gives you more of them too because a few times I ended up with 7 or 8 of the rares which was a ton of GMP.

As for how missions change my main style is mostly stealth, but sometimes, you just need to run some kind of armored vehicle. :) I get a kick out of calling in airstrikes too. For mission specifics, if any of you haven't let Traitors Caravan play out most of the way, you might want to try that.

Also, forgot to put this in my other post but I never got (horn spoiler)
demon snake status even though I developed the nuke, which theoretically should've put me over the limit.

I also loved this area and how your playstyle really changed everything. Everyone should try all kinds of things here. S rank on this one was hilarious though in how simple it ended up being.

Beat the game last night and I'm... conflicted.. on the story.

Anyway, now to decide if it's worth going for 100% completion/platinum trophy or not.

I'd have no problem doing all the side ops and animal collecting and the like, but I think it's going to be a bitch to get all S ranks and all mission tasks done.

That particular mission really impressed me for the same reasons. Some routes were hard as balls, but there were quite a few ways to tackle that mission. Loved it.

The only major annoyance is all tasks in only a handful of missions. S ranking missions is surprisingly easy, like Backup Back down where you can just phantom cigar after the first tank and still get around 280000 points. Almost feels like cheating.

Do you have to S rank the harder versions, the missions in the 40's?

ah I began to sort of suspect that... not until recently because I just figured I was having bad luck but over the last week or so I was really trying to get it to work, and I figured that with how polished the game is.... bugged seemed a bit unlikely and maybe it didn't actually lure in-game animals but just affect your traps. i never tested it though and was kinda hoping it would just suddenly start luring sheep onto roads haha

oh, and airstikes or air support are awesome. i waste an item slot on air support signal grenades because i love to hide in cover with a bunch of guys supressing me with AKs and then I throw in the signal smoke and in comes the helicopter smoke -- Blackhawk Down style. coming in hot, boss! rocket salvo rocket salvo!

selecting it from the iDroid doesn't quite feel as cool hehehe
