Post Mission 25 question (huge spoilers ahead):

My staff are dying at a pretty alarming rate thanks to the whole Pontypool-esque plot development of language as the weapon. I'm not a huge fan of having to lose progress & equipment in games, even for plot reasons, so this section is one I'd really like to get over with ASAP. I can't really identify the exact language as every one of the staff members in the initial quarantine spoke at least English, Russian & Kikongo, so I threw about 40 soldiers with those three languages in common into the hold. How many more do I have to throw in, or will there be a specific story mission I have to complete first before they finally identify it's a language that's the problem?

Thanks <3

Kikongo. All of them. And yes, you have to do it manually. And yes, it's a fucking pain in the arse.

Well, you uh, got unlucky, so I might as well tell you the solution, seeing as you've basically figured it out. SPOILERS

Kikongo. I got unlucky with both Russian and Kikongo, it took another wave of people getting screwed for me to see it.

Enjoy being deathless

Is there a good way to get materials? My base is packed with people now and I have to dismiss people to get anyone else in. Can't expand because I don't have enough material.

Focus on building base development platforms because they give out materials. I built the second platform and now have 8000 biological material waiting to be processed.

I'm screwing after the honey bee mission gaming the system trying to max out my fulton. The real money is taking vehicles and resources off the battlefield. Resource containers give you everything.

Say I wanted to replay mission 10 to get the transportation specialist, after I extract him do I have to complete the full mission or just leave in a chopper?

If I leave in a chopper mid mission won't it count as aborting though? Or doesn't it matter because there'll be a checkpoint?

Just rush the missions until it passes. People will die regardless.

Question about D-Dog:

I found him in one of the side-ops. The first one, I believe. That's not the location they encountered him in the gameplay demo back then. Did they simply change the location or is it somehow random (i.e. one of several predefined spots where he could appear is chosen randomly)?

In any case, I was disappointed by how that event played out. I was hoping to bump into him by chance some point, but what actually happened was that I jumped out of the chopper and Miller immediately was like "Hey, there's a little pup!" before I even noticed him.

It's random.

I was doing a story mission and he was there when I landed. Before Miller could finish talking I tranqed him and fultoned him.

Im just doing side ops for now trying to get my r&d team leveled up enough to get a fulton that can carry tanks.

This game as much as i love it reminds me of how bad i am at stealth games

Meh, that's not a big deal. Go out and fulton some replacements, wont take long. Once you get deep into the game every crappy outpost has top-notch fools to kidnap.

Direct contract your elites/key personnel if you don't want to lose 'em.

How does one do that?

Ok i'm getting frustrated and need to ask... Quiet...

Can you take her down with lethal weapon and still recruit her? Or does that kill her?

You can
defeat her with lethal weapons if you want. You can still recruit her. After the battle ends you are given the choice to kill or spare her.

Yeah I got the second platforms for almost every type of platform. I'm working on the 3rd for most. I just don't have the resources. But, without resources I'm maxed out at like 65 people on every one. I've been dismissing low level guys as I go.

Just beat mission 45 and whilst I haven't had a chance to finish watching the cutscene yet, I've got to say that was easily the worst mission in the whole game.

Are the tanks supposed to be that broken? Of course using the bombardment and calling the chopper in helps a bit, but the requirement of being regularly active in the fight to keep quiet from dying is a real pain in the ass when a good number of them can one shot you even through a sandstorm.

heh, this thread is quickly beign full of black bars.

Better than a spoiler minefield, but still.

I'm 25 hours in, about to start mission 14. I think this game will keep me entertained for a long time.

Assuming you mean mission 11,
it doesn't matter what you shoot her with, you'll still get the same option to recruit her

I really want to get this for PC but the Australian price is absolutely criminal with our land tax and crap dollar. Are there any decent deals or should I just wait a month or so? Probably best for my uni work if I wait but at the same time I don't want to miss out on online.

Man, I wish they had more missions/areas like mission 30. I feel like this was the mission I was waiting for allll game. And mission 31... Sooo good!!!!

I was genuinely afraid to do anything but sneak through their defenses. I was on edge the whole through, got spotted and restarted a few times. Having all the guards in full armor so you can't rely on the tranq gun the whole way through was refeshing.

Its too bad I've seen such negative reactions for chapter two, the "coming soon" trailer or whatever makes it look so promising.

How does one do that?

When looking at the staffing lists, you'll notice an option at the foot of the screen to direct contract with soldier. You just click the appropriate button (L2) and you'll see a little lock symbol appear next to their portrait. That's it.

I think you're limited to like 10% of your total staffing and it excludes a few notable characters.

That mission was by far the best stealth I've ever played in a game.

So my game has crapped out on me. It opens fine, I am in mother base, but when I leave for a mission I get an infinite loading screen? I tried logging out and stuff but no luck?

Chapter 2 still has some good stuff in it. Infact, there's a couple of things in Chapter 2 that rank as high points of the game for me.

It's absolutely worth experiencing. It's just a more "fractured" experience than Chapter 1, which is very structured by comparison, and doesn't provide the necessary closure to plot threads that it should.

Will I get other tranquilizing weapons besides the pistol, I want to do a no-kill run but I don't wanna get bored doing it.

Yeah I felt like mission 30 and 31 were kind of peak, perfect Metal Gear for me. Incredible, near perfect, stealth gameplay and a whole bunch of crazy story stuff. Loved it.

Is there an official FOB thread or something? I have a couple of questions:

1) is there a way to disable your FOB from being invaded until you're ready to start going back and growing your FOB and invading others if you want to concentrait on the story only and not have the stress of your FOB being invaded?

2) How the hell do you find/support/attack people on your friends list?! There doesn't seem to be anyway. It just looks like it gives you a random list of players...
