Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

I actually envy the people who play these games for the gameplay and don't give two shits about the storyline.

I really do. The gameplay in this one is AMAZING. But after that ending... Yeah... I don't feel too compelled to play it again soon...

Yeah I've known about it since before I started playing but I'm still enjoying it thoroughly but it is disappointing to hear where the story goes.

Attacking the same outpost over and over again is getting very old. On Chpt. 2 and I think I am just eh...bored. The gameplay and moment to moment can be very fun, but it's so damn repetitive. It's the same thing over and over again and I just don't get it. I mean, literally after a certain point, it's the same missions, just harder. What am I missing that people are loving about doing this? MGS1 and the series is one of my favorites of all time, but this just feels like busy work in between drip-fed plot elements.

Nah man that poster Jarmel was defending MGS4 left and right.

I mean that's fine, I'm just not going to agree with that person.

LOL I don't like MGS4. The game is almost straight garbage through and through.

However the story is certainly more entertaining than what's presented in MGSV.

I categorize it as the best gameplay in the series, but the weakest narrative. :(

Was getting caught part of your plan?
That's exactly how I feel. This game is going to be hard to replay for me, knowing the twist.

Same. now when i go out on missions it just feels weird.

Same. Even getting to 100% for platinum is going to be rough knowing that.

Haven't finished but based on these posts, I've hypothesized 2 possibilities on what the twist could be, both of which I will find hilarious if true.

I'll keep it to myself for now.

Feel free to PM me what you think. I'm curious as to if you got it right, or close. I wont confirm nor deny it. I just wanna know.

Indeed.

The discussion isn't really subtle. A lot of people are completing the game or seeing the ending now. But others, including myself, completed and saw the ending a week ago. And there are people, I'm sure, who will complete it and see the ending next week.

Let's try to be respectful. You might not post outright spoilers, but anything can be enough to allow someone to connect the dots as to what the ending might be based on the other rumours and innuendo they've heard. Let's try to be cool and talk about the ending in the spoiler thread.
Thank you. I'm about to finish it, but based on some of the untagged posts in here saying
"it's going to be weird playing now that I know that" and stuff
, I'm going into the ending expecting some
"Boss hallucinated it all" or "it's not really Big Boss" or "Big Boss is dead but his thirst for revenge revived him" twist.

Not a huge deal, but still people, just tag your posts well or take it to the proper thread.

I don't care how weak you guys think the narrative is. Stop fucking talking about the goddamn ending. People who haven't beaten it still fucking care. Saying it's weak isn't gonna make us care less!

That's me, and I'm thankful for it. I plan on S Ranking everything I can.

I always used to love laughing at the outrageous brilliance and over the top nature of Kojima's storytelling. But I never expected to laugh at how poorly executed it was. But here we are, at mission
30
and the
that truck ride
scene. I'm sorry, but this method of storytelling is garbage, and I can't wait to beat the game and get into the spoiler thread and seeing how people are defending this. Dat idle animation.

Surprise: Not many are defending it.

So, uh, when does my fulton unlock the ability to extract containers and vehicles? I've just gotten to Africa, and still can't fulton containers.

seriously there's a spoiler thread for a reason, if you want to talk about the ending take it over there please.

question: Are you supposed to be able to choose where to build you platforms on mother base? I just hit the A button on the platform name to build another one, and it chooses to put them waaaaay far away from the center platform. is that normal?

Yeah, that's normal and not something you can control. Eventually the base is a giant mess of long ass platforms.

We were supposed to be able to choose, based on pre-release info. But alas, we cannot. When you choose new platforms, it's all automatic as to placement.

Yes.

You don't really design Mother Base outside of its colour scheme.

Pretty much how I feel.

If the gameplay mechanics weren't so damn good, I would have given up ages ago.

You need someone with the transporation specialist ability. One of the prisoners in Mission 10 has it and a random soldier I think in the first village in the first mission in Africa also has it. After that you just need your R&D at the proper level

Can't choose as far as I can tell. Could be a console restriction. No need for those long ass bridges except to mask rendering times.

Oops, look like we moved.

Wow...looking at hours, I feel kinda bad. I just completed Mission 15 with 50 side ops done, and am sitting at almost 43 hours. I'm going to be playing this for some time it seems, which is fine.

Chapter 2 is straight out bad on multiple fronts and I'm not sure why Kojima even labelled it Chapter 2 as it's not equivalent to Chapter 1. I would advise people starting to get burnt out to do the main mission required for the story and only the side-ops necessary to finish. You've already done the good missions.

So what does capturing an enemy outpost actually do? Or destroying the smaller equipment with the blue LED Light on it.

One mission stood out in paticular in chapter 2 for me.
Mission

I'd consider it a 'good' mission .

It's to prevent reinforcements during FOB invasions and to leave room for sub-platform expansions, that's all.

You get an emblem piece for conquering one. The outpost itself remains deserted until you leave the map.

Destroying equipment just disables it. That'll either be power, communications, or individual light fixtures. I think the satellites are part of communications, while the glowy blue communications hub thing controls the comm for the entire outpost; just like lights vs. power generators.

Only things I've been invested in this chapter so far are the Quiet stuff, and even that is extremely thin.

I'm approaching a mission that needs this but I don't have it yet.. kinda putting me off hopping in.

Yea i didn't think of that. I guess if you had like 4 of each platform all packed in next to each other performance would probably take a significant hit.
