Microsoft Games Showcase Event Today (11am ET / 8am PT / 4pm UK)

You can say with ONE HUNDRED PERCENT certainty that NOTHING at all was added or boosted graphically for the release version shown today?

Judge for yourself:

I'm with Stuart360 Stuart360 on this. It's hilarious seeing people suddenly cream themselves over this game. It's been available to purchase throughout the early access period for well over a year on the PC (and mobile phones) and nobody batted an eyelid.

It's good for the dev (it was made by just one dev) and it seems to be a decent game at a reasonable price but the way that people are starting to hold this up... They are setting themselves up for disappointment.

I liked the presentation. Went there expecting third party games, got third party games. Some of them looked really interesting, specially that aline-prometheus like one. Also AC looks awesome.

Phil isn't thinking about console wars. Sorry. The Xbox Series X is already guaranteed to do better than the Xbox One because of Gamepass, most powerful hardware (or at least because it's not significantly less powerful like last time), and this time the marketing didn't threaten consumer rights. They're on the right path, your mind is just in the wrong space.

He talks about 'console wars' in interviews a lot. So he is thinking about it. They want to be number 1.

Nowhere there does it say crossgen third party games, rather it says "next gen gameplay" that we got none of. Nice try at damage control.

It says, "from our global developers partners." Which means third party and such.

I think he's a Microsoft mole tbh, defending with the blindest faith I've rarely seen
There are few of them here

Get out of here with this crap. If you are going to make an accusation like that, back it up. Or else shut up. If you pay attention at all Chunk is always in every game thread giving his opinion, mostly positive, even when it isn't xbox. Dude enjoys games.
To me the ordering is just wrong. They should have just done the big blow out next month focused on the first party and third party AAA stuff to have some wow factor and then done another one later with these AA and indie games to give them a spot light. Much like how Nintendo has their seperate Nindies direct to give those games the spot light and not just bury them behind the first party stuff in their main directs.

I'm guessing they want to please their third party partners. It's also a really nice gesture to get this kind of exposure for the smaller studios. But yes, everyone is chomping at the bit for next gen exclusives. It's just really hard to have a good convo about any of this right now with all the frigging console warring. I wish everyone could be mature about this and set aside the kneejerk reactions. All this does is hurt these smaller studios who've worked really hard on their games. They don't deserve that just because of some console war.

Seriously, it really saddens me that the first thing that comes to mind for people to type out is how ugly all the games look and so much for Xbox being next gen. I would love to see people actually discussing about some of these games, the same games they are going to be able to play everywhere else, on whatever platform they want most likely. But because they where revealed here, they get dumped on.

Truth is, we need these smaller studios to fill the gaps between all the big hitters. These are the games we will be playing while we are waiting for the games that we really think are going to wow us visually, if these don't even do that, some of them do for me... But it's really important that the AA and indie market do as well as they deserve to. Events like this just give them a better chance to shine and see if all their hard work and ideas are something people might like. But they still have to stand on their own merit.

How can it be console warring when Sony haven't displayed anything next gen yet?

Warring against yourself? If Sony brought the same underwhelming stuff I would be just as critical

In just wondering where these claims that Microsoft isn't ready for next gen are coming from?

They already showed a bit more than Sony and we have seen the actual console from them. That doesn't really indicate to me that they are not ready.
You're misunderstanding me. They've been fighting an uphill battle, coming from PS4/One generation. They have been fighting hard to win back gamers for this coming generation. They've been doing a good job preparing for next gen, currently better than PS, they've made great moves so far and this was a step back. It wasn't a great showing. That's all the guy was saying and I agree. That's all.

The one shining thing we can take a way from this is that its just some 3rd party games, looks like smaller studios. It didn't show off the power of the Series X, but rest assured that MS will show it off with their 1st party titles.

It will definitely do better than the Xbox One at launch. It's guaranteed.

All the negativity from that launch is gone.
As long as they don't insult certain markets and call them Tier 2 countries or tell people you didn't need to upgrade. Don Mattrick was some 🤡.

Has anyone done research on the always on and family sharing games thing and whether there is more demand now? Would like to see what the ratio is now

The show wasn't great, but why are people burying Microsoft because of it? The format (at least, the first half) was perfect - game -> game -> game.

The issue was the games weren't that exciting. But that's on the third-parties. These are Xbox AND PS5 games. Microsoft was just giving them a platform to show off. If you aren't happy with what was shown, that's on the third-parties, not Microsoft. Same would be true if this had been a PS5 show (it easily could have been).

Don't be ignorant. You know as well as I do that during these kinds of reveals there are always fanboys on every side waiting to pounce. I'm merely stating from reading the knee jerk reactions that I personally think a lot of it is due to console wars. I've been around a while, I know many of the posters and their "preferred" platforms. No, I'm not going to call anyone specific out. Yes, I will say that a lot of this is due to console wars. That notion isn't without reason. Look at the friggin ban list.

EDIT: All I'm saying is that it's frustrating when fans just want to talk about games, we have to wade through all the warrioring.

Anyway, from now on, I'm going to try to shift the convo to games.

Who cares if some of their smaller games don't look as good, fine, why consciously choose those games as the machine's hyped first gameplay reveal? Who is running things at Xbox? If Sony comes out and shows gameplay of first party stuff before MS does, it's going to confuse the casuals, even some hardcore that this power advantage isn't really there. They needed to come out swinging.

Excellent point.

Like I said, this is Microsoft's less egregious version of The Road to PS5 mistake. What Mark Cerny had to share was all interesting, pertinent and valuable, just not appropriate for what, to all intents and purposes, amounted to a reveal.

Same thing here. These all look fine for third-party titles. They're just not the right choice to make a first-impression. Not showing gameplay only made things worse.

Your move, Sony.

This stuff was just the filler that they would've shown at E3. Nothing here piqued my interests and I didn't expect it to. It was obvious before, but even more so now that the July showcase is where its at.

It's up to MS what they chose to show here. So you can't say it's on 3rd party developers.

Looks like a next gen upgrade to me.

Bright Memory Infinite:

This shit isn't anything we've not seen before.

No idea why you're posting a trailer from over a year ago when that's not representative of what the game has been in recent months.

Yeah, that was pretty underwhelming. Oh well, at least they showed some stuff off. A couple of cool moments, but disapointing overall.

Not worth overreacting and throwing a fit about though. Some of you need to relax a bit lol

I'm sure if third-party had better stuff to showcase, MS would have shown them.

It's just the start of a new gen with not much exciting stuff at launch window.

MS has always been transparent about cross-gen, smart delivery, building the Ecosystem.
This is kinda expected, while disappointing a'lil. There are the peaks(Series X hardware design) and troughs(smart delivery), things will get better over time. Because we know it will, with how dedicated MS has been communicating with gamers. :messenger_bicep:
It will get better because of... communication?

Sorry, but providing updates on what you are working on doesn't somehow improve the work.

I was obviously talking about the "crossgen" part of which there was no mention in those tweets by Xbox, SMH. They clearly said "next gen" and they clearly said " gameplay" and both were lies. Keep up the damage control, you're doing a good job 👍.

I think its more likely to do better at launch but to say its guaranteed is a bold claim. There's still lack of incentive for a majority to upgrade, question here is how many people are going to pay XXX amount of money to play the sames games with better graphics ?

Sony just need to come in and show off

PS5 console design
1 first party next gen gameplay ala Killzone Shadowfall reveal
Developer compilation praising why PS5 is great and how they implemented thee features in their games, haptic feedback, mic, 3d audio, SSD etc.

Just 10 minute reveal with the 3 above things would be enough. Then once Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima is out they can do a full blowout at the end of July with a ton of games.

I was most disappointed with Assassins Creed. That was not gameplay. But I blame Ubisoft for that and really I'm more disappointed in myself that Ubisoft got me again. I should have known that they would not show gameplay so soon after their 1st trailer.

Edit: I don't think graphic will be the thing that we should be excited for this coming generation. I think it'll be like a PS3/360 to PS4/One jump, it will look better but it won't be like a major jump. I think it'll really be, like a lot of people have said, load times, game design because of the those load times, and Ai because of those CPU's! I think the CPU's will make the most difference. But trust me, I am very prepared to eat crow, and happy to do so, if we get eye popping visuals as well.

That medium game looked good. I almost thought it was Silent Hill because of the soundtrack and the otherworld. Nearly shit myself watching.

Nothing else besides AC interested me. I definitely didn't see any games that make me want to upgrade my XOX.

So people are disappointed that optimized for Xbox Series X games look like Xbox One games optimized for Xbox Series X?

Did y'all not see the Gears of War & Minecraft demos?

You will see the changes when the games are being made around the higher spec Xbox & PC

People need to temper their expectation for a third party crossgen conference next time...

3rd party can still blow you away. I was blown away by Watchdogs, Star war 1313, Titanfall, Battlefield 4 and etc. It's the game selection that was a dumb thing for first next gen gameplay get hyped video. Just a bunch of indie games and Madden with a nothing trailer and Dirt 5. 3rd parties could have been Elden Ring, Harry Potter, Batman and etc.

Agree there.

I don't understand Ubisofts approach here, they have got the show to themselves really, everyone's eyes are looking at them as the big reveal.

To waste it like they did, i have no idea what their thinking.

Showing actual game play later in the year where they have to compete vs other massive games just does not make sense to me.

Unless they are so early in game development is the only reason i can think of for them not wanting to cash in.
Massive opportunity missed by them in my eyes.

That's not how they were hyping this event though.

They said we about to change the game. They didn't even say cross gen only. Even though PS5 reveal was shit atleast they kept expectations in check and said this was supposed to be for GDC only and no games will be shown. Would you say the same thing if Microsoft showed a next gen port of Tetris and said well technically it's Series X enhanced so they did what they said lol.

fair point.

It wasn't that bad though it confirmed what should have been obvious (and will also be the case for Ps5): The first year of Next Gen is mostly going to be current gen games running at higher resolution/FPS/graphical settings

Seems like everyone has forgotten that every new generation launch (at least the last 2) brings 99% cross-gen titles and maybe 1 or 2 games actually taking advantage of the hardware. And even then, they are usually shallow and mediocre games. Shadowfall and Rise are a perfect example.

Where on Earth does it say a 'third party crossgen conference'

I will eat major crow if you can provide evidence to this

They said it was third-party games. Cross-gen is just common sense. Third-parties aren't going to alienate 150 million current potential sales to push new hardware for a few million.

I was obviously talking about the "crossgen" part of which there was no mention in those tweets by Xbox, SMH. They clearly said "next gen" and they clearly said " gameplay" and both were lies. Keep up the damage control, you're doing a good job 👍.
Every game shown had gone through the series X, a next gen console, dev invironment and was clearly enhanced for it. So yes, that was next gen gameplay. The same way those same games on a PC with similar specs would be next gen. The only point you have is with the "gameplay" like I said before. They could have done better. That was definitely a marketing mistake when most of the clips where "shot" without huds like in game trailers. So it's hard to tell what was actually indicative of true in game gameplay.
