Microsoft is funding “Take Us North” a game about illegal immigration to the US

You've got some seriously warped views. The torture video on Kick wasn't a lecture, or educational either.
Um, what? I'm pointing out the difference between the two games because you tried to compare them and complained how people care for one but not the other. And i said one (this game) is a lecture you have to take seriously and the other (torture sim) is just edgy stuff nobody takes seriously. Not sure where you getting at.

I don't care if they're making it, but I don't think they're going to find the sales numbers they're looking for. Microsoft has no idea how to make a game that sells, it's awe-inspiring to see them make the wrong choice over and over again and keep trucking on. They even announced a new console, but no one can explain how their business model will change to become profitable.
I doubt they even care about sales or the game, this chick only wanted to make her powerpoint presentation about racist america during the event :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Trump won the election dude.

This is about whether or not people have any freedom of speech left to tell stories.

Except they're telling their story to no one because no one is going to buy a game like this. The audience they're looking for dosen't game/dosen't exist and that's why alot of these political games and games with a political message behind them are failing and that goes for both sides of the fence.

The higher ups won't. They will just get hired to work on bigger projects and maybe even classic iPs. These people only fail upwards.

True and they'll write it as a tax write off once this shit bombs. We know that's going to happen and that said higher ups will wash their hands clean of this disaster.

Is anyone arguing they shouldn't be allowed to?

You can think somebody's opinion is garbage but still think they should have the right to say it.
The whole premise of the thread is that MS shouldn't fund this, and it shouldn't be made. Funding is in the title. This isn't about people saying they think it'll be a bad game. They're clearly saying it shouldn't exist; obviously.

Of course. It's just a super low budget game only known about because Roach King got triggered.

I don't see anybody saying it should be banned or anything, criticizing MS for funding this isn't the same thing.

People aren't saying it shouldn't be allowed, just that they view it with contempt/disgust.

I agree with you on asmongold. He's a grifter and I hate the weird thing he does with his eyes where he raises his eyebrows while talking every 2 seconds.

No point going back and forth about it, but it's extremely obvious to me this isn't the same as something like a Concord thread where people are clowning on it. They're implying it shouldn't exist as a game, that it's political propaganda. Look at Asmongold reporting the funding to Elon like some CIA informant. Wouldn't even be slightly shocked to see Trump pull some absurd stunt threatening MS until this obscure, totally irrelevant game is canceled. And the secondary point of this is to send a chilling message to everyone else that funding or creating anything like this is clearly off limits. They're not acting like it'll be bad, they're acting like it shouldn't exist. Obviously.

U would think its funny, till u really check out what is currently happening in mexico ;X

Where I'm from we have three times more murders per year for the past three decades and the population is around half that size.

A tactical shooter would be pretty cool.

I miss Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.

I personally don't have a problem with devs making the political new IP games they want. Is it going to be woke trash? Probably, but they're advertising it as such so issues with me as I know not to spend my money. It's certainly much better than getting their hands on an established franchise and ruining it.

On the other hand, not a fan of grifters sending their entire internet armies against a small unknown dev.

I'd try it on GP. Doesnt look like much. Probably a super small team with barely anything, getting picked on by a racist youtube millionaire.

No one seems to have a problem with GTA having "illegal activities" in it. People on here were defending rape games when they got delisted on Steam. I guess this was the bridge too far for GAF. Not murder, not any other illegal activity ever. This was the trigger, this no name tiny game with barely anything going for it.
So this game isn't going for authenticity then? No drug mules or women being raped? Just plain old illegally crossing into another country.

And reporting it to the richest man in the world, who literally controls twitter and is the top individual donor to the US government. Asmongold rooted this out and reported it faster than the KGB.

Some people have truly stopped tolerating other people's opinions, attitudes, or interests. Some very strange views are expressed here in this thread about a single game. It's a bit fragile, character-wise.
Why can't you just say: "I'm not interested, I don't care?"

It's such a fundamental ability to tolerate ambivalence and attitudes, opinions, or life concepts that differ from your own. It's kind of strange that so many people apparently can't do that anymore.
What's different from yourself and your own life doesn't necessarily have to be bad, terrible, or even the end of the gaming industry.
We can decide what we play, listen to, and what films we watch, and we can choose to tolerate others.

I mean, yeah. I'd prefer if Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo didn't fund stuff like this. It's not even about the entertainment to them, it exists solely as propaganda. They didn't bother to show the trailer at the presentation because the 'game' is irrelevant. Like what are we doing here? It's a race to the bottom with this slop.

No one is petitioning to get it canceled. If pointing and laughing at it is all it takes to deter companies from funding these games then damn... that was easy.

You guys keep using that word propaganda. No one's even played this. We just know that it's about asylum seekers asking someone to take them north. Are you claiming that doesn't happen? What is the propaganda part?

Is Schindler's List propaganda? Do you mean that anything with political implications is propaganda?

Im fine with this being made. I wont play it, at least I have no plans too.

But at least its an original IP, their not taking some existing franchise I care about and twisting it into this.

So I say leave em alone, if its as bad as Dustborn we get to laugh about it.

It's going to be a biased take on illegal immigration that appeals to emotion to push a particular agenda.

We've been collectively mad about the woke trying to cancel us and our games, but it seems we're no better and are now doing the same when given the chance. I'm not really picking any sides, just an observation.

I'm sure it might be biased, but so is Schindler's List; so is Grave of the Fireflies. It's not like it's the most flagrantly horrible exaggeration ever. We know some people actually do go north, and actually have horrible stories to tell about it. I'd at least wait to see how the game is, personally. Just going off the title and knowing its about illegal immigration isn't telling us anything yet.

I bring up Schindler's List and Grave of the Fireflies, because everyone in this thread is fine with that. That means they're fine with political stories that appeal to emotion and push an agenda if its well made and they're never once called propaganda. What seems to be the issue is that people in this thread are afraid that people might see illegal immigrants as human beings for even 5 seconds. Actually afraid, mobilizing against it and trying to shut it down. It's a threat to the narrative to see these people as humans.

Microsoft is the true nature of the deep state, woke policies for American people to subvert them with immigration nonsense and neocon outside the US

Microsoft will kick you out for certain political views, so stop this bullshit nonsense

If they don't like it where they live, then maybe they should fix their own country instead of invading somebody else's.

Is this from Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee?

Seriously though - there are obviously big concerns about immigration in US, as the white population has fallen from 85% to 60% in my lifetime, but surely there is room for games on both sides. We have Border Control Simulator.

Games can be art. Games can be political. No problem there. MS and the developers just need to be aware that the audience for this type of game is probably relatively small and therefore budget accordingly. And also don't whine or guilt people when it doesn't sell well.

What does that have to do with racism towards Mexicans? I'm talking about the huge concentration camp and people lining up to join ICE to rid the country of brown folk, not how easy/hard it is to get into the country legally.

Vast majority of illegal immigrants in the US are from the same region due to illegal border crossings. I don't see how it is racism for the crux of the illegal immigration efforts in the country to be focused on the most significant source of the problem.

Low birth rates probably have a lot do with that. White but also black woman seem to not get enough children and only hispanics get close to 2 kids per woman. Without immigration the US population would shrink (as is the case in probably all industrialised better educated societies).
Capitalism won though, more single households ie more consumerism... congrats, girl power and girls just wanna have fun decades.

Edit: Detroit become human, Life is Strange 2 and I think Road 96 all have illegal immigration as part of the story, just out of the US.

Ha… this could be interesting. So much potential to explore a controversial subject from different viewpoints that is hard to grapple with in other forms of media

Our team is over 60% BIPOC and over 60% female/non-binary.

Ha… may be not

So this had a teaser trailer uploaded to YouTube months ago and no one noticed but it's only just gotten noticed.
The YouTube comments are fun.
It's not going to be anywhere close to a Concord level disaster but this should provide some chuckles.
