[MLID] Zen 6 Magnus Leak: AMD's MASSIVE APU for PS6 (+ Medusa Point Specs)

This could cost twice the price of PS6. And the graphics difference with ps6 will be likely minimal... not a generation difference.
why minimal, if microsoft going 1k+ pc/console hybrid route can be easy 50% faster (difference can be bigger than ps5 pro vs ps5)

144 mm2 for the CPU plus 264 mm2 for the GPU? That doesn't seem very likely. I'd imagine SONY will want to keep it around 300 mm2 in total, like previous APUs they designed. Semiconductors are getting too expensive to build something that huge. 🤔
Yep, I can see MS going for a large chip if they decided to basically only focus on high end market. But Sony will want as low size for APU as possible to allow for future cost cutting.

One major problem with that. Wafer prices have increased drastically.
A 300mm^2 chip in N6 costs around 70-80$
But in N3P it will cost around 150-170$
And in N2P it will cost around 260-290$

Either the console price has to increase a lot, or Sony will have to pick a smaller chip and clock it higher.
The later is what Nvidia and AMD have been doing with their GPUs.

MLiD should be a banned source of rumors anywhere, period. The dude has been completely fucking wrong about every leak he spews out for the past 5 years and then backtracks when its certified bullshit.

I clearly remember:
- RDNA2 beating the shit out of Ampere (which didn't happen, they sorta traded blows)
- Raptor lake was going to be weak and non-competitive with AM5 (which turned out the exact opposite; voltage issues aside, AM5's launch performance was very mediocre and was inferior to Raptor Lake, which was just a slight adjustment of Alder)
- RDNA3 was going to have a 4090 killer and be more efficient than Ada as a whole (lol, this again was the exact opposite)

The dude may have had an inside source years and years ago but now he's nothing more than an AMD shill. His information is absolutely bullshit, iirc he's even the one that was peddling the $700 MSRP 5070 rumor.

$1500 is being thrown around. Welp. Would rather get pc. Even if it performs lower.

$800-1000 would be a sweet spot for me, for a regular 5 year update.

If this whole thing works as it should and OEMs are on board there should always be an up to date Xbox hardware so no reason to wait for 5 years

What I am gathering is they will release a SOC that will remain fixed for, say 5 yrs.

Could be wrong, and maybe amd will refresh chips yearly. Not sure.

Microsoft going interesting route: over 1k $ console/pc hybrid. There are many enthusiasts on gaf that will like it, question is if somebody want to spend over 1k why not go pc + nvidia route. If they managed to release this next year many would jump to play gta6 on it.
In one of the threads someone was saying that Xbox PC will be a threat to PS6 as long as it's cheaper there will be no threat at all. Besides if this is over 1000k and it's a pc most people will build one with better specs.

I mean if its a form factor that lasts for 5 years in console form and lets you play on PC platforms as well, its a win win without breaking the bank. I already dumped PS this gen. Didnt know PS4 was gonna be my last. Nintendo can go fuck itself.

A $1,000 console is breaking the bank lol

Btw when I mentioned before $1000 for the next Xbox if these leaks are true, I was off, like way over that guess for the OEM machines

OH..................MY.....................GAWD! This would be nuts.

This would be a total nightmare. You can't build consoles or pre-built PCs like this on a yearly basis and think you can make a good foundation for gaming. IT.........WILL.........NOT...............WORK!!!

Ok minimal wasn't the right word. Without AI upscaling and Rdna4 RT PS5 Pro games get about 50% higher resolution. Thing is this xbox is aiming for that only as it will get similar RT and ai upscaling as ps6 with udna

In fortnite with UE 5.6 Ps5 Pro gets 60% higher res plus extensive added hw RT. Most games on pro do not use the rdna4 hardware and only get 50% more res. For that only you need 66% more tflops. More bandwidth on xbox will help, but it will be the same games both using fsr4/udna RT and higher resolution on xbox.

Diff will be like Ps4 Pro -> XBX. And I expect Cerny to have some tricks on Ps6, again.

It's basically how I imagined you would do a chip if you're intent on doing multiple performance tiers. You have one premium GPU tile and one or multiple GPU tiles (say a 256-bit 64CU and/or 128-bit 32CU variant) for cheaper products while keeping the SoC tile the same between all of them.

The Neo-Geo of 10th gen it is, then.

And yeah I agree with Kepler's take this is probably for the next Xbox, considering the timing. They also said something about codenames giving it away, but I don't follow the lore on codenames for these projects.

$1500? Well, certainly possible. Maybe certain OEM versions will be around that price while MS's own is closer to $999/$1200?

Smaller volumes (even compared to Series X & S peak years) and more storefront options will do that.

He leaked PSSR graphs before anyone else and got copyrighted by Sony/SIE for it. Can't spin that.

All your examples are AMD vs. Nvidia or Intel; this leak doesn't involve any of those other companies, same as the PSSR leak. At the very least you could use that as a rule as to whether you consider it potentially legit or not.

So if this is the next Xbox is it likely to release next year or 2027?

With the timing of this, and those Sarah Bond/Lisa Su videos plus next year being Xbox's 25th anniversary, really everything is pointing to 2026 so far. I think they want this out in time for GTA6, so either a late H1 2026 release or H2 2026 in the Fall if GTA6 gets delayed again.

That doesn't mean they have a prayer's chance at actual marketing rights; that's SIE. But MS wouldn't mind bragging rights of "the best place to play the biggest release of the generation" or something like that (they can't outright mention GTA6 by name).

Could it be the Steam Console?

I really hope Valve are making a Steam Console, but it probably wouldn't be with an APU like this. They also would probably get Steam Deck 2 out first or simultaneously, so we'd get spec leaks for that first.

And Steam Deck 2 probably isn't until 2027.

Not at all, there are other studios pushing the current gen coming as well, to make such a claim it's outright false.

Yes, over time developers get better at utilizing fixed spec hardware, but citing GTA is probably not a good example.

No other studio can take 10~ years between projects and have it reportedly cost close to a billion dollars in dev.

The budget is the only thing most studios today can't match, because nearly every AAA game is taking up to 8 years to develop even. GTA VI only started any form of real production in 2018.

If the $299-$499 dual console strategy failed, this $1000-$1500 console strategy would be much worse.
Why would msft care? Xbox emerged due to crazy kaz saying after 100m psx sold they could put an os in PlayStation. There are rumored to be 900 million pc gamers.

Next gen is an ecosystem war.
Switch 1&2 vs ps4/5/6/pros vs pc/nextbox/portable pcs ect.. including tv
