Monitoring the situation in Iran

Trump just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Iranian culture (I'm an expert), but religious zeal and martyrs are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Nazi Germany where you can become successful by being one general that decides to take over. If you try to take over in Iran, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is Civil War.
What this means is the iranian public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Freedom from either America or Israel, nor will they build any of Trump's hotels. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Trump has alienated an entire market with this move.

Trump, publicly apologize and cancel World War 3 for Middle East or you can kiss your real estate empire goodbye.
What's a summary of your background? I'm always happy to see others who have been there and understand the country beyond a superficial level. I've spent a fair amount of time around Tabriz myself. I've never been much further.

I could really see Starmer flying to Iran and come back with a "Chamberlain style" piece of paper saying they promise no more nuclear stuff .Mofo is such a sham of a PM

Your scenario has already played out.

If that's the metric this judgement is based on, then the current course of action has already played out much worse. This strategy has already been played out multiple times over the last 20 years and didn't work multiple times.

Ironically, non-combat/kinetic action regime charge has worked in his very same country before.

Lots of reasons why Iran is what it is today, this is one of them:

Humanity could be stuck in a loop with slight variations. Oh well, we're always happy to let future generations deal with the impossible to predict effects.

What do you think is a more realistically achievable course of actions?

Scenario 1: Quietly supporting and funding a secular, pro-democracy uprising in Iran that can undermine the theocracy's political and economic power over time and eventually replace it?
Option 1 is when Iran kills all these "undermining" people by the TENS OF THOUSANDS", like thry did what, a month ago? How soon some forget.
Scenario 2: Bombing the country, eliminating the leadership, which causes a decentralized fracturing, which radicalizes the general population as they see their homes destroyed and their families killed, with no clear leadership structure to take over, while the pro-democracy contingent are busy just trying to survive the shelling.
Now the ability of Iran's military to actually FIGHT has been severely reduced, many leaders are dead, so your "moderate semi-secular non zealots" have an actual chance now. If they exist.

That was the idea, on paper, but ignoring or downplaying how the ongoing course of events might be complicating that outcome is worrying.

The way things are going lately, Trump randomly declaring mission accomplished (a la Dubya) in a few days could be the lesser evil, rather than letting it spiral out of control.

I would like to be proven wrong. Not by Trump's words, because that guy will continue to say anything and everything, but by future events.

Not surprised if true.

I'm no war expert at all, but when the whole Israel/Gaza fight broke out and Israel was laying waste to Gaza, the media would say Isreal would actually give Gaza warnings a strike is coming.

I found that nuts. I never ever knew when it came to conflict, one side actually warned the other so the normies could escape or at minimum prep themselves. Of course, it's the western side that gives warning. No way in hell does it seem any of those scummy mid east terrorist or gov military do the same back. The same side that does IEDs, hostage taking, ambushes and shit like that.

Was never elected, tankie.

We do the same with minefield. The goal is to destroy STUFF, not people, on the assumption that the people can, and will, change in order to save the rest of their STUFF. This is a very western individualistic and materialistic way to view things, not sure everyone operates under the same assumption.

"Exciting times"

This is not entirely accurate, last year when shit was popping off and Iran's facilities were reportedly obliterated, they gave advance warning to the US before retaliating on some bases.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — President Donald Trump said Iran warned the U.S. before its missile strike Monday on an American air base in Qatar.

"I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured," Trump wrote on social media.

Ok, so it is a war.
And they're winning it 150%. Which, in Trump's native tongue of bullshit, means they must be behind on their objectives, whatever those actually are.

Why is the word "war" suddenly a controversial one? Why are we playing semantics with something that is abundantly clear? Is it because partisan politics demands we not call it a war right now? Why?

I can understand what happened in Venezuela being defined as a military operation, we got in and got out quickly. Makes perfect sense. But Iran? We have a multi-phase, likely multi-week direct armed conflict between nations with missiles flying all over, military assets blowing up, and demands of unconditional surrender being sent. It's a fucking war.

Lol, some people are so serious.

It's just the level of hubris so many users who have very little knowledge of the inner working of the government / military, acting as though they have supreme say on what is and isn't happening.

But as normal, many users here (like yourself), can't understand sarcasm and everything has to be so serious and doomer.

Geez. Nobody cares what you call it, it's just the absolute hubris from people who, like the LARGE MAJORITY OF US ON THIS BOARD, have zero idea what they are talking about and have formed their knowledge via 5 headlines a day and what CNN said in the breakroom.

I sincerely doubt that you have more info than the people speculating here, and their take is as good as yours.

I don't think a huge amount of inside info is necessary to say a war is going on, the bar is pretty low there.

You can't just say "lol why so serious" every time you get called out.

It is not just a meme though. Putin started this trend with calling the Ukraine war a special military operation. Propaganda to avoid the loaded term "war". Now Trump is doing the same.

Yeah bro HENCE WHY I SAID IN ALL CAPS "LIKE THE LARGE MAJORITY OF US ON THIS BOARD".

I don't pretend to have more knowledge and speak with an aire of superiority. It's the same ~10 users who do this crap in any remotely political world news post on GAF, as well as several members who haven't been involved here in forever magically popping up to #orangemanbad on the whim. Annoying and adds legit nothing to the convo, which is why I respond with a sarcastic nothingburger myself.

Busting balls for doing stuff like calling a war a war is pro Russian blogger shit.

Air of superiority, adding nothing to the convo...project much?

Who fucking cares? I could look it up, but why? To create some sort of equivalence on the partisan landscape?

Yes, you are bias af. Exactly.

Are you effing dense? I literally ADMITTED that's what I did. :messenger_tears_of_joy: it's how I respond to anybody who does that - I literally WROTE IT OUT.

I can't bro. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Edit:I didn't even address this shit. You called me, unironically a pro Russian blogger? Rofl. I am pro AMERICA for ANY president. You and several others here are terrorist sympathizers UNIRONICALLY. Stfu.

Either US or Israel are now bombing desalination plants in Iran. The aim is literally to starve Iranians who depend on that water. The US is using the same tactics as Russia in Ukraine when the Russian army takes out power plants in the middle of winter to make Ukrainians suffer. smh
Have you ever heard of the tactics used by Israel in Gaza? Although I wouldn't put too much faith in everything the Iranians are saying right now.

The U.S. has not confirmed it. But honestly, confirmed or not, the conversation we are now having is scarier than the strike itself
You're to emotional to monitor the situation, stop doomscrolling.

So people who call something by what it apparently is, your reaction is to use that as basis to respond with ball busting because that's "energy matching", or something.

Sigh I hope they just delete our entire exchange here because it's stinking up a serious thread. Imagine all these hellscape images of infernos burning and bickering over whether to call it war or not on the same page.

Embarrassing

You're just as guilty bro. You respond to me literally levity posting by arguing and using some kind of cringe ass diss like "RuSsIaN Blogger".

Geez bro. It's a VIDEO GAME FORUM, anybody is allowed to respond as seriously or unserious as they choose. Plenty of outstanding news reports here from the literal site owner and plenty of others, I am literally just breaking up the scary news with some ball busting and your in here trying to censor me like the true fascist you are.

Lighten up, champ. It'll be OK. Or it won't. Nothing I say will change it either way.

Edit: since I am dealing with the Autist champ, I need to point out IDGAF what you actually call it (war / not war) . It wasn't a serious post, bruh.

You're right, I'm very serious. Admittedly my tolerance threshold for partisan politics is really low right now. The bickering over the word "war" genuinely triggered a reaction from me. It's mostly because there are a few folks who are in that theater that worked for me before I left the service, so this whole situation is a bit personal in a sense. I hope I get to share a bottle of soju with them again in person after this is all done, hopefully with an Iran freed from those theocratic shitheels.

Apologies for overreacting.

I can respect that.

It's a message board, I don't mean anything seriously negative towards anybody. I love GAF. I just get annoyed with people using this thread to give their confirmation bias a jab of valor. It's annoying. So many doom-posting because they don't like *insert here* president. I call that stuff out 🤷‍♂️

I even told BlackTron BlackTron on a post several pages back I didn't actually wish anything bad for him and hope he had a good day, but of course it's the ONLY message bro didn't quote or respond too. 😂

Except Russian blogger was an accurate portrayal of your behavior. If I laughed at them over SMO, why should you be any different?

Generally I have a hard dislike when people try to ruffle feathers on serious topics and then retreat to "it's not that serious lighten up", not cool just because it's a game forum.
