Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

Bestbuy (and other retailers) added it at the same time as stuff like Yoshi Yarn, Zelda, Super Mario, etc that was announced in the January ND. It's almost certainly a placeholder title for the new game.
Ah, yes, in that case, I won't expect an Xenoblade Chronicles HD. But that tweet definitely looks encouraging as far as us seeing more X next month! :)

guys who on earth is going to be releasing an HD Xenoblade. who is spreading this nonsense? what team do you think is making it? they're obviously knee deep in X and X is obviously not an HD port

Hoping Ninty announce an HD Xenoblade at E3 then smack us in the face with an epic X trailer straight afterwards.

Can't wait to get smacked.

I figured >_>

It'd still be nice to have a Xenoblade HD. Plus we could get people who are like "omg omg omg my eyes can't handle SD! It burnsssssssss" to finally play it.

Ehh Monolith?
They recently expanded considerably, they could give it to an exclusive/small dedicated team and do it.
btw.. they're developing a 3DS game too so they're not that knee deep in X.

Different teams at Monolith are working on X and whatever their 3DS game is.

What are the chances of Xenoblade HD on the Wii U? I never got to finish it because my disc broke and Gamestop didn't have anymore copies.

I doubt it will happen at all. Quite frankly, Monolith Soft's time would be better spent on starting a new project, assuming an HD port of Xenoblade isn't outsourced. It is still surprising that we are even getting a sequel to Xenoblade at all.

Anyway, I really hope we get to see a new trailer for X for the E3 Nintendo Direct.

Considering every Nintendo first party release has been delayed substantially longer than they thought (Much longer dev time) I'd say they need all the people they can get to develop X. They underestimated the development time for HD games.

The game probably started development right when Xenoblade released in 2010, so it should have a 3+ year development cycle so yeah a Japan 2013 release wouldn't be too shocking with a early 2014 NA/EU release.

If Xenoblade is any indication, I wouldn't expect this to have a turn-around time that quick. Will probably be a relatively long localization process. Assuming a November release in Japan, I'd expect Nintendo to push it hard in the next year's fall lineup in the west at the earliest.

Hell no, that should not be the case at all. Iwata better be working since hes CEO of NoA or whatever

From the US trailer it seems like they already localized some things so I doubt it'll take like a year to get here. I don't expect the game till 2014 in Japan btw.

I just do not see the purpose at all. I can see why we'd want one because the title is now rare and exclusive, but the title is rare and exclusive to us because they didn't want to give it a large printing to begin. So to solve the issue of a small printing, instead of just giving the game another printing... they remake it in HD? It does not compute.

I don't think it will come out this year, but I'm fine with that. This year is gonna be packed with Wii U games anyway. I could see this coming out in spring 2014, though.

I mean, I just want Monolith to take their time. They should just make sure it gets good.

Well if such a thing were to be done there are two possibilities. Monolith's 3rd team who worked on Project X Zone is doing it, as the other 2 are busy on X and the unannounced 3DS game, or another Nintendo studio is doing it.

Yeah probably not a worldwide launch, but they are clearly already working on the localization so it will probably be a pretty timely release.

Do you reckon Nintendo could be localising the game on the go, so that they could push for a worldwide release? I'm not too familiar with how the translation process works at Nintendo, but it's just a thought.

It's a lot more difficult/expensive to do that, especially for a huge RPG like this that will have a crap ton of text.

If they did do a simultaneous or near-simultaneous release, it would indicate Nintendo has massive expectations for the game.

They probably do to be honest, look how it was set up for presenting at the january direct. It may as well been a zelda

I don't think they will be looking for a simultaneous launch, although it depends on the timing of course. The more important thing to Nintendo when it comes to these sorts of things is how the release schedule looks per region and how they want to fill it.

TBH the market is not as large for Xenoblade as most people think. Most people don't want to invest 100+ hours in a single game. I've come to that realization after having my gaming time reduced dramatically. The "core" that is interested in RPG's will buy it.

The following is according to Iwata Asks:

Xenoblade Chronicles project began while Disaster: Day of Crisis was in the latter stages of development. Monolith first created a clay model of the Bionis and Mechonis back in July 2006. This model played a big part in determining the concept of the game's world taking place on various areas of the bodies of the two gods based on how they were posed. By the time Disaster was in final stages of development, the team had not settled on any concrete planning for Xenoblade's story and gameplay system. Team finally started work on a prototype in April 2007. Xenoblade was released in Japan in June 2010, August 2011 for Europe and April 2012 for North America.

3 years dev time for a SD game. Most HD games are taking 4+ years... and as the first HD title they are developing there will be a learning curve... which is what most Nintendo devs are running into. Once their first game(s) come out they should be much faster.

I'd love to try an HD version of Xenoblade Chronicles. I still have my Wii but I just can't bring myself to play SDTV games anymore; they look all washed-out and blurry on an HDTV, even with component cables. An HD version would solve this nicely.

Is it possible, though, that Best Buy's "Xenoblade for WiiU" listing is actually referencing X? A placeholder title, in other words? Or does Best Buy have a separate listing for X?

Also, re: the tweet from MonolithSoft: I'd definitely say this is a good sign we'll see X in the E3 Nintendo Direct. IIRC, the same person tweeted a mention of the January Direct where X made its debut.

Have you seen what the game looks like on Dolphin with some mods? I wouldn't even buy an HD version, the best the game will ever be is already here.

Probably, but this is a new IP for Nintendo, think of it as Nintendos Skyrim. Nintendo is in HD now and cant afford to just be losing money on grand games just because.

Don't take Monolith Soft lightly. They have some pretty amazing programmers.

i believe i remember reading that during the production of xenoblade chronicles they were studying modern development techniques at the same time. they could shave off lots of time from reusing tools they created in the first one, such as their engine, terrain creation tools, whatever combat formulas they have worked out. most of the talent is still probably retained and familiar. lots of variables here, it might not take as long as you think.

new trailer? My pants can't hold all this juice

can't.hold.all.this.
We should pour your "juice" in some cups and play a drinking game.

Iwata shows a new X trailer? Drink some of Currygan's juice.

Iwata announces X for 2013 worldwide release? Throw that juice all over your face.
