Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

So compared to Tri G, there won't be any new content for 3 Ultimate, be it WiiU version or 3DS version?

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate IS Monster Hunter Tri G. They just changed the name.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is known as Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G in Japan.

It's just a simple name change.

It came out months ago in Japan was offline then...

so did tatsunoko vs capcom, but that didn't mean anything in the end.
they added online to the wiiu version, so they could've done the same for the 3ds version...
damn :/ my RL friends suck at monster hunter, gotta get the wii u version than, hoping for a nice bundle.

I don't like it when people poke holes in my arguments. You have been warned.

:P

I doubt the 3DS version has online because the Wii U version exists. Not sure if they'd have to do any extra work to add in online on the 3DS one, but if they do they probably won't.

Addition are in terms of resolution (it's HD) and modes (online and..cross play?)
exaclty what western people were looking for (for TriG, of course).

I'm wondering if MH4 could be forseen incoming on the Wii U as well.

So if you have no friends, WiiU version is the only way to go. WiiU it is.

For a moment Nintendo actually fooled me to believe it's a megaton until I realizing it's a 3DS HD port the same way it was for MH Portable 3rd HD. :|

I doubt you're getting much for the copy since I think new copies are going for around $20. If you already have Tri, might as well play it while you wait for Tri G.

But will I just be replaying the same game in six months on the 3DS/Wii U though? I would rather not waste my time now. I got my copy for practially nothing.

You would play through everything you're playing through on the Wii, just with more missions, monsters, locales. And shadows.

I don't mind if the North American 3DS version is not online. It would be my solo device, I can do short quests and/or grinding/farming while on the go, then at home I can hop online on the Wii U version.

That's true. If you have other games to play, it's probably better to grind things out on the newer version since there's no indication you can transfer saves. Shelf it, especially if you're not very far into the game.

One of the biggest complaints about Tri G is that the offline part is pretty much the same as Tri. It's too bad that there isn't any character transfer from Tri to Tri G/Ultimate.

Exactly what I plan too.

WHERE IS THE CIRCLE PAD PRO XL?! I need control parity. :(

Just unbelievable. Many of you were saying that MH3G would come to the Wii U, but I didn't believe it. And I am sure you didn't believe this too. But... CAPCOM IS GODLIKE.

Hopefully Nintendo and Capcom plan a good online service this time. I loved Tri on the Wii but the Online experience was pretty clunky. Needs to be way more streamlined and open.

What.. Tri had by far the best online service on the Wii, hands down.
No silly friend codes.

4 player max for rooms was pretty lame though. Hopefully they're really beefed up for this. The Wii U can take it!

Can't message players who are on a quest
Fairly frequent disconnects
Can only search for rooms with every specific criteria filled in

Plenty of room for improvement even before we get into XBL-like features

Never really had an issue with disconnects. Always seemed solid to me, and we were running two Wiis at once and usually two computers with Skype going too.

But yeah, 'best online on the Wii' is not that great. I hope this game improves on it a lot.

I hope like MH3G, the Game Pad is customizable and used for quick access to the map, etc. Or even dragging pieces of the UI like the chat box with other players down there. Give me more room on the gameplay screen.

I'm probably going to grab the 3DS version regardless of whether it has online or not. I really hope it gets a digital release so I can play it at all times.

Jesus, this transfarring thing sounds fucking delicious. I'm actually frothing at the mouth about it.

Is the 3DS one not online? I missed that earlier.

Doesn't seem like it, no, however there is some kind of ad-hoc thing that allows 3DS players to play with Wii U players. (Whether all players have to be local or it allows online players is yet to be clarified.)

I'm not sure how the hosting for the tavern/room/lobby works but I think a lot of issues are related to which ports other people have open for their Wii. Aside from actual disconnects after you're already in a room, there a lot of times where I get error messages trying to enter a room. Or where someone else trying to enter a room I'm already in keeps disconnecting.

I'm glad it's coming out in March, I should have a wii u by then.. I really wanted online in the 3DS version though, but I supposed I can get the WiiU version instead.
