who has a switch and doesn't own a ps4/xbox1/pc?

I'm hyped for this game. Crossplay would be hella nice so I can play pc and another platform with my brother.

I think it'd honestly be hilarious if they just announced the game was called Monster Hunter 5 in Japan when they do the livestream next week. There would be no better way to make it clear this is the next mainline MH game. I guess they've already committed to World in Japan but the idea people still think this is a spinoff is weird.

As a hardcore MH fan. I'm indifferent now. Capcom really wants this series to take off West and willingp sacrifice its portability sales for Western reveneue. If this bombs saleswise, I really hope Nintendo doesn'y take them back. Nintendo built up the brand, made it a juggetnaut and this is how Capcom repays them. I'll buy the PC version to see how it plays, as PC settings are probably more suited for co-ops. Capcom, you laid your neck out now. I hope for your sake you survive. I don'y want to see IP's split up due to potential financial difficulties

PSP... lol

Though the post wouldn't be less cringeworthy even if you got the basics right.

How crazy it is for the Monster Hunter team to finally work with HD textures after all those years.
I, for one, look forward to be blown away by this.

Why are people so concentrated on the main numbered naming? Deep down everybody knows the Portable numbered name is more valuable than the main numbered name.

Please tell me this is satire. Actually even then it's still a post equivalent of a dumpster fire.

Posted this in the wrong thread at first... But here we go:

Just looked through all the info in OP and holy shit, I'm so hyped! Console MH with somewhat modern graphics and a streamlined approach sounds great to me. I loved the series up through Tri but lost interest once it started focusing heavily on portable play. I felt like it would take too much time to learn all of the systems and it felt like a game that was meant for consoles to me.

Will gladly play this will fellow Gaffers on Xbox.

Nintendo is such a nice company.

Thanks, Nintendo.

In which Gen was this introduced?

Yeah, I know about that (and I remember it being a super strong ability) but he was talking about standard i-frames on roll and that's news to me since I dropped MH after Unite

at one point I was good enough to roll through narga tails and gypceros flashes without evade armor, at least as far back as FU. But it was a very tiny window.

You called youself a hardcore fan when you forget that MHP2 on PSP sold the more and before MHTri on Wii and MHP3rd on PSP sold the most.

Thanks for exposing yourself that you only played MH first on Nintendo.

Well I own all consoles but don't necessarily want to pay for their online service(PS+ is on and off for me) so it would be nice if Switch received this game as well.

With that said, it still looks interesting and I'm tempted to give it a try. I wanna see what all the fuss is about.

Haven't checked in this thread since the initial trailer reveal, but everything I'm reading about is quickly hyping this game up for me. I was afraid they'd change too much, and while they still might I'm liking that they're going for more building around core MH and not reinventing it.

An overwhelming percentage of these sales are on portable platforms.

His point was Nintendo didn't build the brand when the best selling game in the series wasn't on a Nintendo platform.

Also if it was feasible at all to do a PS4 portable this game would justify it.

That definitely seems to be the case. I was very skeptical when I saw the reveal trailer, but it looks like this is the title I want it to be. Though we won't know that for sure until until we know more about the combat mechanics.

It's frustrating that so many of the impressions are coming from people who aren't experienced with the series, but we will know everything soon enough.

Well it's just true that nintendo build it on the WEST at least, with all this free localizations/adverising or publishing..

Never thought PSP version sold the most in the series

If anything they'll never reach that point ever again. It was the game released at the heigh of the franchise popularity, during the peak of psp performance, with a more japanese setting aswel. Conditions were ideal and the game sold like hotcakes.

It helped that it was the easiest installment from a difficulty perspective, which I know isn't what a lot of fans want to hear, but that kind of thing does help more than it hinders.

Monster Hunter Freedom 3 was immensely popular in Japan that not only PSP game but every video game seemed to be affected (i.e. sales eaten) by that. I remember many Japanese game store guys' blog stating that MH was eating lunch of other games from other platforms.

Preorders are up on Amazon, seems its labeled as standard edition. So I assume its time to be prepared for a Limited Edition with DLC bonuses.

This is the point that angers me the most, too. MH got bigger in the west over the years thanks to Nintendo actually doing fucking marketing and putting that shit out for Capcom.

World at least should've been on Switch. Not saying it should've been exclusive. Let everyone have a taste of the cake. But this? This is fucking horseshit.

I was just making an observation on the numbers.

To respond more directly your post, Western MH sales greatly increased with the 3DS titles (whereas Japanese sales have declined), but I would credit this more to Capcom and the growing MH community than to Nintendo. The single best selling title was Freedom 3 for the PSP, but more overall games have been sold for the 3DS. You can see international sales totals here:

For me Monster Hunter Worlds sounds like a typical Capcom Move. If you can't have all the money, why even bother. So they will change their games to appeal to a different target group, which makes a series lose its identity, and at the same time they believe to make all the money immediately. At the end they just alienate their old fans and the Frankenstein's monster of a game applies to no one.
Let's hope, this time Capcom doesn't forget, what makes this series work.

I'm very interested in the game but it's far from what I would call beautiful. :)
It looks like a PS3 game and should have been running at 60fps really. But game seems really good!

why would you credit more capcom than nintendo, when nintendo is doing the job of advertising MH on the West? o_O

Notice that there's almost no 3rd party support for the Switch right now? Blame Nintendo for this game not being on their console. It's probably been in development for years, long before anyone knew what the Switch would be.

Everything you said is irrelevant to MHW. The core of the game is still present. Its being made by the same team who made MH1,2,3 and 4. Did you even read the OP?

I'm sure the team responsible for making mainline MH entries has forgotten how to make them.

That new info doesn't mske it look that bad really. I loved MH on the Wii. For me the best game of that generation. So i never got into local co-op, but i can see why so many people is pissed.

I really don't expect previous MH numbers in Japan. At least if it was on the switch they could play on the go.

You sound like a typical driveby poster who wants to give their hot take but hasn't actually played the games being discussed.

Frankenstein's monster?

You fucking kidding me?

The first infos are promising. They are sticking to the core parts while offering some nice-to-have features for modern audiences. But I still think that people will be debating about the changes which will happen quite passionately. The core audience is pretty strong with MH. And I don't know how Capcom wants to expand that group of people.

If you had mixed up Capcom with Konami, this would have been perfect.

This is obviously Sony at play here regarding MH World, when you have the Head of Sony Japan CE inviting Ryozo Tsujimoto to talk about MH World, there is no doubt about it rumors or not.

But Capcom is smart. By using MT Framework engine for World means they could create Monster Hunter Portable 5 for switch that is based on World since they can reuse assets. Don't forget MT Framework is very flexible and versatile based on the games we saw last gen.

Everything sounds FANTASTIC so far. The traditional hunting loop is still present, and stupid things like clunky aiming controls and stopping to take potions has seemingly been fixed (I'll miss the cheap monster shots tho :p). Not a big fan of damage UI, but let's see how important it is to the varying weakpoints. Since this is on the PS4, I can't wait to convince my console only friends to buy this!

And for people still complaining about Nintendo being left out; The Switch is doing great. Capcom likes money. The Switch is the only sustainable handheld in Japan. Japan won't play monster hunter on anything that isn't a handheld. Put 2 and 2 together people...

Can everyone just stop with the "this isn't true monster hunter" talk? It's just flat out wrong. I'm sorry to portable fans and people that want offline multiplayer but beyond that this is Monster hunter. I have been a fan since PSP and the moment I saw that trailer on sonys conference I knew it was true Monster Hunter. It's the same art style. It's the same animation style. It's perfect. It's not some radical new take on Monster Hunter. People comparing it to Dmc are just wrong.
