Most Viewed Trailers After 24 Hours from Yesterday's PlayStation Showcase on YouTube: Gow Ragnarok (10+ million), Spider-man 2 (9+ Million), etc

what is the difference between a normal entry and Sports?
Sport feels more like a spin off or a Prologue (oversized demo). It has much less content, no real SP and is heavily online focused.

This.

In terms of the views compared to MS, I'm not really shocked as they did sell the least units of hardware and least sales of software last gen, by quite a lot out of the big 3.

Why they thought ONLY putting the most money behind Halo, Gears and Forza was going to some how bring in new fans is beyond me. That money should have been put to new IP to bring in new consumers and we might have saw those numbers higher on all counts. This isn't 2003 anymore, would be like Sony putting that much money on Killzone and continue to fucking ignore that we've moved on or something. Sony got those sales because they continue to do NEW SHIT, they don't just continue to put the biggest budget, in the same fucking IPs ALL THE TIME.

Horizon moved more units then Killzone
Spider-man moved more units then Ratchet
Ghost Of Tsushima moved more units then InFamous and Sly
Uncharted moved more units then Jak, The Last Of Us moved more units then BOTH

Do people not fucking see WHY they move those monster units? They are willing to fucking MOVE ON, to put AAA budgets behind new projects and just fucking move on.

So I am happy MS is fucking seeing this and doing some new IP like Avowed and Starfield, but consider that shit was being made BEFORE MS bought them, who even knows if they naturally allow that to happen vs putting them on Fable, Halo, Perfect Dark etc. So I do hope this is a sign of good things by them as I don't feel they needed to buy Zenimax, what they needed to do was treat the studios they already have with some respect and let them move on to new IP and TRUST that their fanbase wants new shit.

If MS puts out The Last Of Us instead of Sony and ND JUST did Jak and Daxter for life, I own a XB day 1.

I'm still a gamer first and foremost.

You'll see those numbers raise during the generation from those Bethesda titles. Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Starfield etc.

They can feed me these ladies in a Marvel X-Men game.

You know they're just going look like ugly middle aged showtime actresses as is the trend with all these new Marvel games.

I'm extremely pumped about god of war 5, Spider-Man 2 and wolverine

maybe kotor, not sure about that one yet. Gameplay pending

gran turismo is not my kind of game, won't be getting it, but I thought it looked great graphically

For all the bitching I left the Showcase with more then half of its games in my pre-order basket

Not a scientific measure by any means, but it shows where interest lies.

I'm guessing those first 4 games all sell over 10MM copies LTD. Spidey pretty much a lock for 20MM. GOW, Wolverine, and KOTOR all have a chance to get there too, depends on the hype once the games are out.

Spiderman will sell the most IMO

Its the second best selling PS4 game

List of best-selling PlayStation 4 video games - Wikipedia

GT as a franchise use to sell 5 million + easily per entry, but Sport only sold 1 million.

GT4 sold 11 million for reference

Looking at reaction videos people took a break when GT came on to catch their breath after Wolverine only to be blown away again by Spider2 and GOW. I did not see a lot of people caring much about GT on youtube. It'll still sell well but it reminded me of National Geographic's part on Disney's Investor Day's presentation. Everyone took a break. I'm not sure who's buying those things but they have an audience.

Not sure you'll be able to prove that and I doubt Sony will give the breakdown per platform, but okay, sure.
Yeah that's hard to prove other than maybe European charts. By the time gow 2 comes there will be over 20mil ps5 out there. And god of War is pretty much a must for the hard-core fanbase. Ps4 peasants will still be playing fifa and fortnite

Marvel might as well let Insomniac games make a shit ton of Marvel games and then let Sony expand the studio to 10000000000.

If Disney has any kind of smarts (doubtful with Chapek) they are offering a deal to Sony to develop games for their IPs with possible favorable terms (first look, timed exclusivity on the IP, lower royalty rate, etc) in exchange for all film rights to the web slinger. Doubt Disney will want to get any of their IPs tied down to one licensee after the mess that was SW and EA, but they can offer Sony some incentives. I feel pretty confident Sony's profits from SM and MM games alone are in the hundreds of millions, even when assuming a standard royalty rate of 20%, in no small part because of the IP.

Biggest surprise besides Wolvie was Sony getting KOTOR exclusive. I was literally in shock when I saw Revan.

I'd rather let insomniac games handle these IP's going forward. it's clear square enix hasn't had a freaking clue what to do with them. Marvel's avengers being the primary example of how to fuck up a popular IP and not understand what gamers want from said ip. the jury is 50/50 on guardians of the galaxy, could end up being good if not solid or end up being shit. midnight sun's is in the same boat as well so it's a wait and see approach for both.

I doubt Disney will give Sony full exclusive rights to the whole Marvel license, but they can give them a first look as I said above. I would rather have a Sony's Marvel Game Universe where it's not just IGs. And before people come at me I would still want Sony's first party to develop new IPs and sequel to their existing IPs. I'm someone who has been waiting for a proper Syphon Filter and SOCOM 4 for over a decade. However, would I rather Bend develop a Days Gone 2 or Ghost Rider game that takes place in Earth 1048? Given I thought DG2 sucked ass I would definitely take Ghost Rider, for sure. Would I rather Sucker Punch develop a new Infamous game or Iron Man that takes place in the same universe as the Marvel games by SIE? I'll take the latter any day of the week.

It's not easy to develop games that sell 10MM+ copies and a well received AAA Ironman game is all but guaranteed to do so. I would also bet a proper Ghost Rider game outsells Days Gone 2. Everyone knows that Disney marketing machine will keep these Marvel properties front and center all the time.

Midnight Suns is a completely different kind of gameplay. It looks good if you like XCOM type of games. GoTG looks okay and the developer is quality, but SE burned a lot of goodwill with that Avengers game. I wonder when their contract runs out. Supposed to be multi year multi games, which I guess this already counts as that, but would be nice to know the exact number of years/games.

That's a bit of a stretch. Look at it more practically; Insomniac have already done Spiderman, so its a no-brainer that they'd be the right choice for a sequel. Similarly as their games have been well received and Marvel seems pleased with the result, pressure could be coming from them to have Insomniac involved on Wolverine too.

I'm sure Sony intend for there to be more Ratchet+Clank also.

Sony is making more money than Marvel on these games (assuming a 20% royalty fee and some other things standard in the industry). Sony is also making more money on these licensed games that sell in the 9 figure units than R&C that sells in the 3-6MM range.

As far as pressure the pitch for Wolverine came from IGs after all 3 parties talked about what was next for a long time. I doubt there was any pressure from Marvel. They are looking for quality partners and you gotta remember the licensor will have a minimum guarantee and make money on the license regardless. That's why when SE lost 60MM+ on Avengers Marvel still made their minimum guarantee from the product (likely 50MM+ if not much more).

God of War is now under 5 million... why the view count change?

When I watched the God of War trailer yesterday, it had like over 9 or 10 million on its own. Unless I'm seeing things wrong, but I was certain God of War was north of 10 mill on the Playstation upload.

So everyone with a YT/ twitch/ Super hero, gaming news, gaming podcast, gaming thoughts channel watched it, did anyone else?

J/k but you throw softballs, going take easy swings.

While I'm very excited about Wolverine, the fact that it was even shown makes me worried about Sony's other studios. Wolverine is in very early development, and Spider-Man 2 is set for 2023, yet they were both shown. How can they show two Insomniac games, both of which are far away, and nothing from Bluepoint, Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog? Could someone explain this?

Yes I know, Bluepoint is not a Sony studio, yet.

Naughty Dog has gone through some changes, and IMO for the worse. They used to be like IGs pumping out AAA games left and right. Strayley and Hennig leaving really hurt them in the long term IMO. Druckmann, while being a good director, should not have carte blanche. I think Strayley and to a lesser extent Hennig kept him in check with the games' stories. I compare him to Rian Johnson (great work on Knives Out and Breaking Bad and divisive work on Star Wars). I don't know what they need to do but they need to get their house in order.

Sucker Punch is a smaller studio. Half the size of Insomniac if you believe wikipedia. Bluepoint has just ported games. It would be nice if Sony got them to remake KOTOR 2 soon since they were allowed to get KOTOR from Lucas and we all know KOTOR remake is gonna be a massive success. I don't want to wait another 10 years to play KOTOR 2.

I know Marvel is kicking themselves for not getting Insomniac to develop the Avenger's game like they did with Spider-man, imagine how big the game would've been commercially and financially

It could very well be that the other teams didn't want to take away from development time to create a trailer or vertical slice

They are not kicking themselves that much. Marvel gets paid regardless.

The Minimum guarantee was probably 80MM+. Would they have made more had the game sold a shitload? Yes. But they made bank on that. Square Enix is kicking themselves for putting out a turd and losing 60MM+ when the game launched.

Thats obviously innacurate. It has had 9.5 million player base so its obviously sold over 1 million

Pssssssst...
They gave it away for "free" via PS+

Don't feel bad forgetting the obvious...that is why these sites are saying it sold 8 million copies too, lol.

Did that actually happen or are you just making it up?

Because I've checked the lists of free PS Plus games and there is no GT Sport from what I can see

Well, shit. Maybe not then, haha.

All I know is that I have it installed, yet I know I didn't buy it as I don't play racing sims.

Either way, if GT Sport actually sold that many copies, I would question the sales figures on other PS4 games as being lowball figures.

Lol, what?

Sometimes you have to wonder if people here are serious or not. Manchester United recently bought Ronaldo and just wouldn't shut about twitter interaction numbers about the signing because they know they can get higher sponsorship using this metric. How else are we supposed to gauge consumer response for an online reveal?

You don't have to wonder anything about MrFunSocks MrFunSocks , he's a career troll. This is a known quantity on this forum.

They may even have 100 million views each, for me it's sad anyway that almost all the story driven exclusives being pushed by Sony right now are some 3rd person view slashers/shooters.

3rd person and story driven....

So you basically want RPGs, I mean, what other type of game fits with Story-driven 3rd person game? Are you a fan of Quantic Dream games? Horizon Forbidden West is 3rd person, open world, story-driven and it's definitely not a "slasher". Same thing for Forspoken. Those two are coming soon and are big games. What better options you've been presented than those?

Or maybe you want them to make "1st person story-driven" games? That's very specific and particular of you. Sony Studios doesn't have a big game like that, I guess? Is that your thing?
