Movie insider Daniel Richtman says more Indiana Jones games are in development

I'll be getting the game for my PS5 once it releases as I've heard good things about its adventure matinée feel. Few games manage to nail that atmosphere properly so I'm quite excited. Hopefully the future games continue in that vein.

Great game but I hope they improve Indy's model. It's passable but could be way better. I would even think early ps4/xb1 game could do better. The smile and overall authenticity isn't there.

Yes.

But I also wouldn't mind if that gets a modern coat of paint and a re-release on consoles too.
OK
I Just bought the bundle that includes a bunch of old Indy games for $6.28.
Bundle includes
Fate of Atlantis, The Last Crusade, The Emperors Tomb, The Infernal Machine.

Looking forward to more Indy games in the future.

Infernal Machine is just a Tomb Raider reskin. Grid movement and tank controls.

I'm not sure why restating the obvious is news. Disney owns the IP and won't stop monetizing something they spent billions acquiring.
It's like claiming there'll be more Marvel and Star Wars games in development.

Weird post. The last Indiana Jones console game before this one was in 2009. 15 years ago. For the PS2. Todd Howard had to lobby LucasArts/Disney for this one.

More Indy games weren't a certainty at all. Claiming this was 'obvious' is just plain silly.

After the Dial of Destiny, i mean; The Great Circle's success. I'm sure investors are feeling very confident

You think Disney's investors lost any money with The Great Circle?

You think Disney isn't in the game of receiving licensing fees for their IPs? Its a business and a series that can garner 384 million in box office revenues despite its failure isn't just going to disappear.

Here is an article outlying Disney's new licensing approach from 2021: https://www.ign.com/articles/disney-games-lucasfilm-philosophy-star-wars-avatar-pirates-indie

Good as Baker was, they should be getting Ford to record dialogue, and stick it through some sort of AI de-aging process. Get it done before he carks it.

Hell yea! MachineGames's Indy is so good. By far the best Indiana Jones content release in decades. More of this please.

You think The Great Circle was profitable?

That's not really relevant to what I said, though. Disney gets paid no matter what. Disney shareholders see some commercial value from the deal, plus perhaps the best reception for anything Indiana Jones in a decade.

It's also premature to make a call on whether or not it'll be profitable since we don't know what weight MS puts on GP performance + incoming PS5 release.

But you've certainly been in your feelings about this game. Especially when it landed to great reviews. Poor fellow 😀

I didn't say Disney Investors.

Edit: Still Disney is getting fucked by the lack of relevance these IPs are showing, not only in games but toys too.

FFS, nobody is saying they aren't in the business of licensing their games. That's a disingenuous and bad faith take since we all know about licensing deals for Spiderman, Wolverine, Star Wars and several other properties.
This conversation was specifically about Indiana Jones, an IP that's been dormant for gaming since 2009.

Again, the article makes it clear that Howard's passion and persistence for the project was what convinced Disney to sign up.

Nowhere was it ever obvious that this was ever going to be more than a one-off in the short to mid term.

Indiana Jones is no different than other major IP's in Disney's stable mentioned.

A story from a snakoil salesman about how great said salesman is in convincing a multi-billion dollar company into licensing a major IP is a fairytale for children.

Except that it isn't a new story at all. Swing and miss from you there…Howard being an Indiana jones super fan isn't anything new at all.

We even have an internal MS email from the FTC leaks saying the same thing.

I didn't mention anywhere that it was a "new" story nor is it relevant or in dispute that Todd Howard, like millions of people, is a fan of a popular adventure franchise.

The fact is that Disney acquired LucasFilm in 2012 and then proceeded to shutter LucasArts in 2013 and spun off the licensing to third party studios and Disney Interactive. They consolidated the process in 2021 (likely in 2020 since they announced in January 2021) under Lucasfilm Games and one of the first IP's they licensed was Indiana Jones, announced a week after the Lucasfilm Games announcement.

This change in 2021 is the critical factor in Disney licensing IP's, not some self-masturbatory story about how critical Todd Howard was in convincing a for profit billion dollar enterprise to allow him to pay them more money.

So I will state again that it is entirely obvious that Disney is pushing the licensing of its major IP's.

Any of them are Point&Click like Fate of the Atlantis?

You're not getting them any time soon, or even ever.

Disney have been wanting that Uncharted single player $$$ but with Indy (with the biggest marketing plug being him the hero/franchise uncharted and tomb raider were inspired by) ever since the Tomb Raider (90's) and Uncharted franchises took off becoming multi-million selling IP's.

I would bet Disney and Lucasarts want a dedicated studio for all their games under the Disney umbrella instead of licensing out like this game.

Didn't Disney shut down there gaming studio in 2016? Not sure why they want to go to the trouble of making games when they can just hand out licenses. Hand out the license, profit whether the game fails or not. Ultimately if it's a win it looks good for Disney, if the game sucks the dev and the publisher take the hit.

I'm not sure how much gas Disney has in the tank left anyway, haven't there recent tv shows and movies been under par for the most part? Disney is probably more than happy to take license money at this point. They are not a sinking ship, I'm sure they have enough money in the bank for eon's but certainly, they are not the quality studio they were in years past.

Disney doesn't even need to develop the game themselves. Machine Games can continue making more Indy games. They already got the quality benchmark down.

I hope it's 3rd person this time. With less of a stealth focus.
I think if they went 3rd person, I gather they would feel they would have nothing unique compared to Tomb Raider and Uncharted. Plus, it's inevitable that as much as people might want it, those same people are going to rip the game apart compared to those games. They would really have to over deliver to overcome people's expectations. I think there are 2-3 first person Indy games from way back when and none of them were well received from what I remember.
Indy's most famous game is a point and click. Kind of hints that Indy is more of an explorer than an action hero and the viewer is lured in and fascinated by all the mysticism going on in Indy's adventure. Although the character doesn't seem to believe in the supernatural himself oddly, even though he witnesses it firsthand.
Strange that he says that in Raiders although Temple is the prequel. At least chronologicaly.

i dont need to. 🤷‍♂️

the internet is spreading the word.

Most of the audience will be playing it via a Game Pass sub so you can't really base anything on Steam stats as it's not going to be the primary method of delivery. Even still, it managed to be the second best selling game on NPD in the week of its release. Add in the later PS5 port and it's going to have legs.
