I watched it 4 days ago, but I can't remember how it ends. I know some people died, and Anna Kendrick was nice to everyone.

Synchronic: 6/10
The setup is vaguely interesting, but then the execution and resolution are a bit blah. An OK way to kill two hours, not much more than that. Feels like the plot to a videogame, except you don't really get to experience the fun of playing it.
 
Cyber City Oedo 808, a Madhouse production 3 part ova. Fun cyberpunk story with a good dub, lost some steam after the first part.

Hope my bluray copy of Venus Wars comes soon.
 
Monster hunter, expected nothing from it. but loved the start of it, good mid area, kinda meh ending but whatever good movie all around.

Damn it. I want to like this movie. I want to watch this movie. I know I shouldn't.

I wish they'd stop remaking movie concepts and progress franchises instead e.g. Mortal Kombat, Batman, Supes etc. Get on with it instead of giving us the same origin story over and over.

Mortal Kombat (2021) - HBO Max (USA) - ★★★☆☆

I can't decide if this deserves two or three stars. As a Mortal Kombat film it's fine, they embraced the loosely grindhouse, unserious tone of the original while greatly elevating every other aspect. The fight choreography feels a little dull after seeing so many recent remarkable martial arts such as The Raid, but it's not bad. The lead character almost feels like a self-insert by the writer. He just feels out of place - not pointless but also unneeded.

As far as these kinds of movies go one could do a lot worse. If you have a HBO sub I figure you may as well give it a watch.

Been watching 90's thrillers that I missed growing up.

The Fugitive- Absolute banger. Tommy Lee Jones was so great, wasn't expecting his sense of humor.

Fatal Attraction- It's pretty good. Glen Close is kinda a ghoul lookin thing in it. Eh, watch or don't watch.

Basic Instinct- More actor Michael Douglus pervert shit. Sharon Stone was awesome. Movie was so great first half, then it just repeats itself till it ends. Shame.

The Firm- Tom Cruise does not miss. Movie rocked. Gene Hackman, the Diabetus, all great performances. Great Lawyer thriller stuff if you're in the mood.
 
Just watched Breach that stars Bruce Willis. The movie was like a 6 out of 10. It would have been okay as a scifi tv movie. You see the same sets over and over again. The acting was barely tolerable. The main star is not Bruce Willis but he works with Bruce a lot in the movie. Rachel Nichols is also in the movie and works as a scientist character. It looks like the movie barely had any budget. I think they should have went a more outrageous route for this movie. The movie isn't that bad if it was a tv movie.
The start of the movie though is weird for something set 200 years from now I believe. Plus the main character actually has physical photos of his girlfriend. They really didn't think the scifi setting through.
 
The Pirates of Somalia.

Caught off guard by this. Expected to just have it on half screen while I browse but the performances and mood of it made me pay attention. Really impressed. Wasn't expecting the animation. I'll watch again at some point.

Rewatched The Fugitive recently. Excellent movie. Thanks for prompting The Firm. I'll rewatch that soon.

About an hour in, and have never seen it before

This movie is not even halfway over yet it's already invoking strong very strong feelings of uneasiness and paranoia when I'm alone and able to reflect back on all that's happened within its story. What I've seen already has been brilliant
 
Castle in the sky, holy shit how have I never seen this, amazing anime for Ghibli

Not really seen any ghilbli films, any order I should watch or avoid?

They range from grounded historical character studies like The Wind Rises or From Up on Poppy Hill, to fantasy coming of age tales like Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service, to man vs nature examinations like Princess Mononoke or Nausicaa. And of course heart crushing works like Grave of the Fireflies.

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with any, but my preference is the following of their more mainstream works as I don't like to recommend the human drama stories until a new viewer has a chance to sample what Ghibli is all about:

1. Spirited Away
2. Princess Mononoke
3. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
4. Howl's Moving Castle
5. Ponyo
6. Kiki's Delivery Service
7. My Neighbor Totoro (this is the most dramatic, reflective of their popular modern fantasy movies)


You're in for a treat. I have almost the entire available bluray collection.

Sweet, watching howls moving castle, got people round, so gotta watch the English dub unfortunately, but it has Billy crystal as the fire demon thing, so its fine

I'm fine with character pieces/drama in animation, and anime/manga, I grew up with it, and prefer it a lot of the time, as long as its not too weeb, or hentai shit.

Don't think I would characterize any Ghibli movie like that.

I will say, though, that in spite of its A-list cast, Ponyo is pretty trippy and seems aimed more toward small children. Still worth a watch for fans, I think.

Ponyo is their take on The Little Mermaid. Beyond that it's essentially a series of juxtapositions between freedom, commitment, and the forces of nature during different stages in life. When you're very young life is full of wonder and personal moments of freedom even while you're chained to will of your parents. The young parental couple who suffer the tension of being alone apart, comfortable in their respective worlds, one having to stay home and care for the child while the other has to be out to sea. And of course the elderly who seem more optimistic and carefree than anyone even though they can no longer care for themselves (facing certain death, in fact, without the help of others within the story).

But yea it still works very well as a simple children's story at the same time. Never met a little kid who watched it and didn't enjoy it.

Without Remorse (2021) - Amazon - ★★☆☆☆

It's odd in that while the production values are great, the acting good all around, and pacing leaves one engaged - it's just not terribly interesting and completely forgettable. It feels like a knock off of a Clancy property rather than the authentic deal.
 
Finally saw the Sonic movie. It was better than it ever needed to be! Was like a 90s movie for sure. Or Mac and Me. A lot of the emotion felt faked but overall it was like a non cynical action movie from The Before Times.

This probably one of favourites
But to answer your question, my Blu-ray and the Disney+ version have the original text on the sign.
 
Just re-watched the original "The Hitcher" a.k.a Rutger version for the first time in..oh. twenty years?

Outside of the two key scenes that everyone who has seen the film will remember, I had forgotten just how "subtle" the storytelling and character building was plus some of the gorgeous cinematography.

Still holds up, one of the great road thriller movies, alongside Spielberg's The Duel.

Still find it hard to believe some of the reviews it got upon its release.

Haven't seen the re-make but I imagine it falls into the trap of explaining each and every characters reason for doing what they do and generally treating the viewer like they are a drooling idiot?

Rush (Netflix): 7/10
If you can get over the corniness of the first half hour or so (feels like a 9-year-old wrote the dialogue based on what he assumed vroom-vroom racecar drivers talked like), it's not bad overall. Cheesy but fun drama based on two real-life F1 world-champ rivals.

The movie was pretty good. The enemy reminded me of power rangers movie ooze 3d. The movie had some nice visuals for the most part just that enemy was terrible. It was very dramatic and had some heartbreaking moments. It felt more like the beginning of the series which had a more serious feel to it. Honestly the movie was kinda weird. Like the build up to the supposed climax honestly felt kinda weak. This movie is so hard to rate. Like it had great action, epics moments, and tearful scenes but I still kept thinking that everything could have been done better if they just tweaked a few things. I'm left at the end of the movie with a feeling of what were you thinking when you made the ending. Like for the highs of this movie I'd give it an A but the lows of the movie I'd give a C so I guess this movie will get a rating of B-. A great story but not put together well. It just feels like it had so much potential.
 
Watched Master & Commander last weekend.

Such a great movie. One of Crowe's best in my opinion. The sound is absolutely extrodinary. Watching it on my A1 was a feast for the ears. Probably a killer movie if you have a surround soun system. 8/10

I really enjoyed this, Zemo and Thor had chemistry. Who knew?

Rutgar is a madman, loved the guy. Thought the remake wasn't too bad, the casting of Sean Bean as the Hitcher is good and from what I can remember nothing is exactly spelled out for you, but you can join the dots.
 
Currently rewatching the Alien Series, upto Aliens which I'll watch tonight
The first one was really ahead of its time.
It also dawned on me that there has never been a male main character, it's either Ripley or a Ripley wannabe 🤔

Wasn't sold on the trailer. It looked like Willis was one of those robot toys from the 80's that just has limited movement and a few phrases through a bad speaker
 
Princess Mononoke - wish I'd seen this when I was kid, loved it, its weird and creepy, like a Eastern grim fairytale.

Just saw this on Sunday (first theater visit since Spider-Man: FFH!).

I think I felt similar to you. Was really just a long episode of the show with higher budget visuals so that worked, but holy shit did the pad out that ending, like after the ending thing happened, it felt like they just dragged it out and I was just thinking, "ok I get it".
