[MS-Conf] Resident Evil 6 Leon Gameplay Demo - E3 2012

No Shinji Mikami....so u know it was never going to be good. I never bothered with having any hopes for this. RE5 was the one of the most painful game experiences I had this gen. This one seems no different.

I have to be honest. The hyperbole regarding RE4 "ruining" the series was stupid in my eyes. I will never understand how that game could be maligned. Everything after RE4 is a mess though.

When Mikami left Capcom that was the end of Resident Evil. This is like the stuffed-cat helicopter in game form, they've just shoved the corpse of RE4 full of explosions and constant fiddly QTEs and are now flying it around at high speed. The whole feel of RE came from Mikami and his crew, the tension, the feel of the combat, the mixture of camp and horror. The chumps in charge now aren't even good enough to just copy RE4, they can only make it worse like they did with RE5.

I'm still holding out hope for the "horror" chills the leon campaign might bring.

Why ?

When you have 5 minutes to showcase a game, you're going to put in as many dynamic elements as you can.

You don't have time to build up tension/atmosphere, which is what the horror genre requires.

I think the over-the-top action sequences chained one after the other are just for this E3 demo level.
Then they should have shown the Chris mode instead

Looks great to me. Ill pre-order. Lucky for me I like my action. RE stopped being a horror game after Code Veronica so this is not phasing me.

This game brings out the worst of contemporary gaming. Fucking linear QTE corridor-filled cutscenes with pre-order on-disc DLC and online-pass/always online DRM (wouldn't surprise me if it was announced).

awesome gameplay??? are you fucking kidding me?

For an action game yeah. What's wrong with it? It's easy to control, fast paced, fluid. Don't know if you're trying to compare it with Survival Horror game play but it's not a survival horror game so it's not going to have those game play aspects any more.

pretty much this

whats really strange is that they moved the release date up for this game, im hoping this was a really old build.

Ok i was expecting it to be a action game yet still dissapointed. where is hit detection which made re4 and re5 famous. where is arena like battles and what is with this qte ?It looks like that ninja game that came out a few years a go for xbox

Also graphics and animation were the strengths of capcom what happened here ?

Something's wrong with the graphics... Too Western style I guess, not slick and stylish like their last few games (3DS included). Leon got dudebroed up like Chris in 5 too, lol. I doubt the game itself deviates too much from the RE5 formula though, for better or for worse. It's not gonna be like Operation Raccoon City or something. And QTEs were already incorporated in the series, guys. Rock punching anyone? How about fleeing from a rolling rock? The jury's still out.

New trailer looks great, and Ada looks hot.

RE6 is going to be the best selling RE, will sell even more than RE5. Doesn't matter how much you cry.

P.S.: The game may have classic horror sections, but in the trailers / conference they show the action because they want to sell a lot, not to have some few gaffers happy.

ITT: People whine and bitch about a change in direction that actually occurred YEARS ago. How can people possibly be disappointed with a focus on action when this has been the case the past few installments? Have you guys even played any true horror games? NONE of the RE games were anywhere near as scary or intense as a series like Fatal Frame or even the settings in the SH series. RE was always an action survival horror series and have simply embraced the action aspect more over the past few installments as it is no longer viable to make money off of old school survival horror. Fuck the haters, this game will be awesome.

A numbered Resident Evil game combined with fast and frantic gameplay and co-op will certainly break franchise sales records. I don't doubt that.

RE5 was a TPS without decent TPS controls. RE6 looks like a TPS with actual TPS controls. So its a step up. I am disappointed though, I miss the pre RE4 days as well (and love RE4 also), but this is just how it is. Those old times don't come back.

Saw this live on MS stream. It looks alright. Not really feeling the horror elements and yes, I know they focus more on the action. Now show Chris's part.

Luckily we have Mikami doing something that might actually turn into a real survival horror game. At least I have a lot more faith into his project than whatever Capcom is calling Resident Evil these days.

Thank you. This obviously improved my impression on that live demo. I used to think it was a QTE fest filled with QTE, explosions and poor animations but now that you mentionned how it's obivously going to be a best seller I have to give it 10/10.

Well this looked pretty bad, if RE:ORC is any indication it will sell though. Seems I'm just not the target group any more. It's OK but Capcom better be announcing RE:R2 soon.

Capcpom just shot themselves in the foot.

I don’t know how much the rest of you know about zombie culture (I’m an expert), but survival and horror are huge parts of it. It’s not like it is in America where you can become successful by shooting and blowing everything.
What this means is the Japanese public, after looking at this, is not going to want to purchase these bay-esque games, nor will they purchase any of Capcpom’s other games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Capcpom has alienated an entire market with this move.

Capcpom, publicly apologize and switch these products to a survival horror game or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I would just like to thank you for this post, it is likely to be the funniest thing I'll read all week :)

I don't really care that this isn't survival horror. RE hasn't been about that for years. I just want something that has the polish of RE4, the same unnerving atmosphere and the same exquisite gameplay. This doesn't.

Yes, I like this Ada render.

It looked like an interactive movie... in the bad meaning of the words :/
QTE, QTE, QTE, short shooting section, QTE, QTE, QTE.

I really hope that this is just a short sequence and not a whole game.

And damn, Ada is fucking hot, no matter what she wears :O

This game sure as hell wasn't Resident Evil. I actually think it looks like it may be decent, but it's sad to see the way the series has gone.

People complaint too much. Stop whining about stupid horror. You will never get it! It's been 10 years since this series has changed!

In the last EDGE I read that more than 600 people are working on this. Capcom has to deliver, because this title is one of their most important franchises. When this game fails ( I hope it's gonna be great, mind you ) they'll have a problem.

Uhm sorry guys but even if you accept that this is a pure action game like it is now, it still looks pretty goddamn shitty.

I thought the Splinter Cell demo was the worst thing I would see today. Man was I wrong, that was mindblowingly awful. Thanks Capcom, you just saved me some money.

Honestly I think the first RE game is the most horror-driven one by far. They've all mostly had definitive horror elements, from creepy tracks on the score to some eerie environments but some serious action elements have actually been around since RE2. There's a lot more now, but IMO some of the best moments from RE2 were more action driven like the Birkin fight on the elevator platform and the train sequence.

The series has been moving away from the horror elements very slowly and into action terrain. I'm fine with this as long as the games still have some horror elements here and there. In that regard, RE5 was the most scarce but I felt that it did an okay job with tension every now and then.

I haven't looked to the RE series to get a good horror fix for nearly 12 years now, but I haven't stopped enjoying the games. For horror I still go to Silent Hill or some indie PC games, not RE. The first game did the atmospheric horror by far the best, ESPECIALLY the remake which is still bar none the scariest game in the series and after that it's been on a steady decline into action.

--just my opinion on the matter and why I'm not disappointed in the footage. Only thing that really bothers me is the QTE emphasis.

Well...that sure is one hell of an action-packed SURVIVAL-HORROR game.

EDIT: Man, what's with the janky animation?
