"My thing is, if I'm going to be the scapegoat, let me be in charge and let me do it my way," said O'Neal, whose friction with teammate Kobe Bryant was well documented. "So if I'm in charge and everybody knows I'm in charge and we're doing it my way and it don't work, then they can, `Say hey, you did it.'

"And I'll say, `You know what, I did it.'"

Wasn't he the one who got Payton and Kawls Malones? :lol

"When I was here, they told me to be strong and do the job and that's what I did," O'Neal said. "An educational point: muscle weighs more than fat.

:lol Go Shaq!

"I'm a big guy with a big frame and I lift heavy weights. When you lift heavy weights, you put on muscle and when you step on that scale, the number's going to be high. If I was out of shape and averaged 27 (points) and 10 (rebounds), I'm the greatest player ever created. And I know I'm not the greatest player ever created."

Shaq knows not to fuck with the curse

Because that's the standard way of saying names in most asian countries. You say your famiy name first, THEN your first name.

And Yao is Chinese, not Japanese. -.-

"Then I come back, pack myself and I'm out," said McGrady, who will be in Houston by week's end.

His new home, not to mention his new team, awaits him. "Actually, it's nicer than my house here," McGrady said, flashing that familiar grin. "Full-court gym. It's phat."

Training camp begins in about two weeks. A fun, yet short-lived, period ended here Saturday. It ended at Disney's Cracker Jack Stadium, not TD Waterhouse Centre. It ended with a baseball glove in McGrady's hands, not a basketball.

It ended with Bo Outlaw at first base and Drew Gooden on the pitcher's mound and Pat Garrity in center field. They were all teammates of that 6-foot-8 shortstop over there. Only Garrity remains with the Magic. It has been a wacky four years of abrupt endings and tasks left unfinished. So this was fitting, to wrap up in some foreign stadium, playing some foreign sport.

Not that long ago, McGrady and Grant Hill joined a team of overachievers and hoped to make it championship worthy. Slowly, the overachievers disappeared. Rapidly, misfortune matured. And now the McGrady-Hill Magic are a scattered group of guys who used to play together, who couldn't get it right together and who only can hope change means reinvention.

"As much as you know to expect change to happen, when it does happen, it shocks you," Garrity said.

Garrity, always optimistic, believes in the promise of the new Magic. The McGrady trade is irreversible, but the Magic did get Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley from Houston. They did draft an undeniable talent in Dwight Howard and an unflappable talent in Jameer Nelson. But they don't have No. 1.

Wow. That's it. T-Mac is leaving us.

"I can't wait to come back Jan. 20, though," McGrady said, referring to his regular-season return to Orlando.

Those weren't meant as consoling words. McGrady will come back to bust butt. He still thinks Magic General Manager John Weisbrod misread his intentions and showed disrespect as he exited.

"He's confused," McGrady said on this day.

There, we've kept the rivalry simmering.

And there goes McGrady, nearing Houston. There goes McGrady to play with an all-star center, reasoning, "Yao Ming's 24 years old. I'm 25. Enough said."

:)

That Pippen dunk is my pick for best game dunk ever. I will remember that moment forever. Pip was so the man when MJ was gone. I love how that huge flash goes off right before the thunder gets brought down on Ewing. You just know that that/those photographers got paid well for that moment.
Dang I miss the old Pip.

Oh for sure. Ewing ate more dunks than anyone. Good thing that isn't a stat. :D

Did you guys see the remarks the Magic GM made about a possible trade for Vince, regarding Steve Francis? So sweet.

Vince Carter, who announced last week that he wants to be traded from the Toronto Raptors, has made the Orlando Magic his first choice of destination.

Any deal for Carter would have to involve Steve Francis and unfortunately for Carter, Orlando GM John Weisbrod is keen on keeping his new point guard.

"There just aren't many scenarios you could draw up where we'd be a better team in acquiring him," Magic General Manager John Weisbrod said, "not when you factor in whom we would have to trade. I can say in no uncertain terms, we would not trade Steve Francis for Vince Carter.

"The more I'm around him, the more I'm a Steve Francis guy," Weisbrod said. "Don't get me wrong, Vince is an unbelievable athlete, but I'd rather have Steve Francis. Steve is a warrior."

Hahahaha. :D

Kobe Bryant shoves David Copperfield

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Kobe Bryant, after being booed off stage, reportedly shoved illusionist David Copperfield aside at Las Vegas' World Music Awards, it was reported Monday.

The basketball star and Copperfield were backstage at last Wednesday's awards show watching Usher perform when Bryant said "I've got to see this" and rudely pushed Copperfield in order to get a better look, MSNBC said.

"Afterwards, David said something like, 'Maybe I should just snap his neck or something,'" said an unidentified source.

Bryant could not be reached for comment, but Copperfield, through a spokesman, commented on the mini-altercation.

"(Kobe) didn't push me. I pushed him and I have the DNA to prove it," the illusionist said.

Bryant reportedly didn't start out in a bad mood.

"Bryant was being super-friendly and sort of flirty with the young women in those slinky outfits who carry around the awards. But after he got booed off stage, he came back in a bad mood," the source said.

:lol :lol :lol

Can't pick on people your own size in the NBA (actually, he couldnt even pick on people half his size :lol ), so he goes after magicians?

But Kobe wasn't booed off stage. Suprisingly, he got a standing ovation. The media needs to get off that guy :lol

and sort of flirty with the young women in those slinky outfits who carry around the awards.

This tells the whole story of the "report" right there....

I personally think it's weird that they'd cheer for him but that's not my point. It just proves that the story is BS. And Kobe flirting with chicks while being lead around on a leash by his wife? All this just weeks after avoiding a rape trial? Sure :lol

Welcome to the tabloids, Kobe :D

Jordan would still average 20+

:lol Shaq can't coexist with a good shooting guard. Granted, Jordan would probably only be average if he came back, but as soon as Jordan had a game where he outscored Shaq, he would get pissed. I don't know if Jordan could handle living with Shaq either. Two dominant personalities will never get along.

Is that what they call shoot-first point guards too stubborn to pass to a dominant center these days?

And VC making Orlando his first choice is news to me...all the flap I've heard is that he'd wants to go to the Knicks. Not that either scenario is close to being possible.

Barkley on ESPN Radio today

On Tiger Woods saying that he's still the best golfer in the world:

" I always thought I was the best player in the world. Then I went aginst Michael in the Finals, and we lost game one. Before game two, my daughter asked me, 'Daddy, what's gonna happen today?' I told her, 'Baby, we gonna win.' I scored like 42, and Mike scored 50 and we lost. That night she asked me what happened and I said, 'Baby, you're daddy is the second best basketball player in the world.' "

On the rumors of Jordan's coming back...again:

"I'd be dissapointed if Michael came back, because that would just be to a point that his ego says that he can't stay away from the limelight."

On what he thinks about Barry Bonds' career:

"Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron. Forget about that Babe Ruth fat guy. He didn't have to play against black dudes. He's number four."

On Shawn Green sitting out this weekend to observe Yom Kippur:

"Man, I got nothin' but love for Shawn Green. But I'm just wondering about us brothas. We ain't got no holidays where we get a day off."

When LeBatard said that time was up:

LeBatard: "Thanks for spending time with us, we gotta go."
Chuck: "What, you can't afford to pay your bills for a few extra minutes?"

:lol

Apparently, one of the NBA's all-time greatest players is enough for the Miami Heat.

Shaquille O'Neal has told Heat teammates that NBA legend Michael Jordan wants to play for Miami this season, and went so far as to ask a few Heat players whether it would be a good idea, two sources with knowledge of the situation said.

O'Neal told teammates that Jordan has left him several messages, and O'Neal was convinced Jordan wants to play for the Heat this year. O'Neal told teammates he was not interested in having Jordan join the Heat, and others agreed, the sources said. O'Neal even asked whether one of the players should go to management and express the desire not to add Jordan, one of the sources said.

Regardless, it appears unlikely that the five-time MVP will come out of retirement to join Miami at age 41. When the Jordan-to-Miami rumors originally surfaced in July, Heat president Pat Riley dismissed them, uninterested in adding a player Jordan's age.

Rumors of a Jordan comeback have resurfaced in recent weeks because he has been working out vigorously with other NBA players in Chicago, and a Denver Post story Wednesday said Nuggets General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe has acknowledged the rumor. The story, however, was about a possible Dennis Rodman comeback, with only a brief mention of Jordan. Jordan has not played since averaging 20 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Washington Wizards in the 2002-03 season and has since been adamant that his playing days are finished.

Last week, Heat general manager Randy Pfund said he spoke with Jordan's trainer, Tim Grover, and Grover gave no indication Jordan was mulling a comeback. During a trip to Asia in May, Jordan repeatedly said there was no chance he would make another comeback. He also has denied comeback rumors recently.

Jordan was spotted on South Beach in July, before the O'Neal trade, which led to rumors of a comeback.

The Heat does need help at small forward, with Rasual Butler, Wesley Person and Eddie Jones being the leading candidates to start at that position when the season begins. Jordan spent much of his time with the Wizards playing small forward, but the Heat doesn't seem prepared to turn to Jordan for help.

Jordan wants to be a part-owner of a team and has frequently been linked to the Heat.
