Nearly 5 hours of Lords of the Fallen footage via Lobos (Dark Souls Streamer)

What's with the main character hate ? Yeah he is a bulky big angry looking white guy. Also he is condemned criminal. Was there this reaction on other games starring protagonists like this ? Gears of War comes to mind.

Personally, eventhough I would prefer being able to create my own character, I don't really mind him.

Kinda puzzled by the reaction myself. I mean there are many things that I don't "like" but I don't actively hate them. Most things falls into the neutral category. I fully get why people wouldn't find Harkyn's design especially interesting (it's really not) but I don't get this active hate towards it.

agreed. OT needs to be Bust related- or nothing at all.
Since you didn't say the OT title specifically had to be bust related I will just assume you mean bad photshops of the bust get their own section of the OT. I'll start with sexy Harkyn.

I like the combat until the introduction of the gauntlet which looks out of place. Most of the spells look rather dull and the casting times are fairly long. Maybe the cast times are used for balancing reasons but everything else in the game is really quick. I appreciate that the classes play very differently and the level design seems strong with lots of hidden areas to explore. I'm not a huge fan of the character design either but what bugs me most is the body type is the same no matter the class. Big and bulky makes sense for the warrior but looks odd for the rogue. The experience system is really smart.

Not sure I will pick this up day one but I definitely want to play it.

I really like the main character's design myself. Not crazy about the armor designs though. It's a little too WoW/Darksiders for me.

Game is looking really good. Looks difficult but not punishingly frustrating. Also, no MP is good for me. Getting invaded by laggy players was not a fun mechanic.

I hope to God they allow you to change the jump button to L3.

The whole Dark Souls thing (jump by sprinting and tapping the same button) is one of the most idiotic control design implementations of all time.

This takes a lot of what I like about Souls games and removes the annoying stuff like item durability, boring treks back to the boss after dying, and player invasions. Plus, it looks to explain most things thoroughly enough so that I won't feel the need to have a wikia open the whole time. And the graphics and weighty animations look glorious. I'll still wait for reviews but as long as there isn't anything game-breaking, I'm in.

lol at those audio logs, go away please

Fake edit: When the game crashed, he restarted at the checkpoint instead of where it crashed D:

Yes, I love all of those tweaks to the formula too but what I love the most is the better combat.

I dig walk throughs and sneak peaks and this guy seems to be a pretty damn fine gamer (for this souls type of game at least) but one of my biggest pet peeves is people that can't coherently move through a sentence while doing something else at the same time...

that - along with how repetitive he is - is almost killing this for me.

Quit attempting to explain stuff and just play the game. The mechanics will become obvious and you can make small comments on things as you go instead of lecturing about the things we are actively watching on the screen already.

If Bloodborne wasn't juuuuuuust around the corner i'd probably swoop this tho

does this game have an open world like dark souls 1?

i really liked the metroid feel, where you find shortcuts.

Yeah it's like Dark Souls, but some parts are segmented into loading screens. There are shortcuts and alot of "secret" paths to find.

To be honest, watching this and other gameplay videos of the game, I realized I actually like everything this game seems to be directly taking from Dark Souls while disliking the new elements it's bringing to the table to set itself apart from its influence (fixed main character design, focus on story and especially they way it would appear it's being told, the overall art style, the magic system).

I guess what I wish is that it were an even more blatant clone lol Still, looking forward to playing it.

Looks way too easy. He's 1 shotting everything. Are there difficulty levels? Bloodborne isn't far off so this will be a tough sell for me.

I agree that it almost makes me crave a souls game more but I like what I see enough to grab it for sure

I am buying this after bloodborne.

Not playing "souls-like" gameplay before BB.

I just don't see the point of burning out before the true king arrives.

One shotting can mean different things. It can also mean "in one attempt" which is pretty true of the first couple hours of a Souls game.

How did this game fly under my radar for so long? Funny how a streamer ends up being better marketing than what has been done so far. :P

Call me interested. I'll wait for some GAF impressions before committing, though. Busy months ahead.

This was my favourite thing about Dark Souls. Totally gone in DS2 in favour of fast travel. :(

In DS2 you could change it. Although I changed it back from L3 to B, because I hate using the analog stick as a button while I am pushing it in any direction.

DkS2 is open ended as shit.

Already from the start, you can choose to go to Heides Tower -> (optional: kill Ornstein) -> No Mans Warf -> Lost Bastille -> Sinner's Rise or Belfry Luna

or

Forest of the Fallen and proceed on that path.

As soon as you get the petrify-thingy, you can go crazy and enter Shaded Woods. Or you could farm enough souls to go down the hole in Majula and start exploring Grave of Saints, The Gutter and the Black Gulch. OR you could pay the chick for the mechanism and go through the entirety of Huntman's Copse -> Harvest Valley -> Earthern Peak -> Iron Keep -> Belfry Sol.

God, the hate for Dark Souls 2 is making people blind.

Pray tell... What is even wrong with this? Why do all jumping mechanics need to be identical, one button implementations?

Jumping in DkS is incredibly reliable and actually quite rewarding. Unorthodox /= idiotic. Wouldn't such a rule render half of the Souls series idiotically designed?

As for the L3 option, clicking a joystick in an upward position seems ten-fold more awkward to me.

I'll tell you why.

There was once this insane
ly superior
game called Demon's Souls. In that game, there were no jump mechanics. Jumping is cool and all that, but it does nothing for me except adding some additional platforming to the game. Once you're 100% comfortable in abusing the i-frames of the roll in order to dodge shit, you realize you want to bang your head to the wall when you, by mistake, jump instead of rolling from the attack.

You see I tend to sprint a lot and I combine that with the roll. If I sprint and roll at the same time, the jump comes up. And the jump has next to zero i-frames. It'll result in my getting hit. And everytime this happens when I replay DkS1, I want to destroy the game.

Yes, L3 is an awkward button to press. But I am never in dire situations whenever I jump. I don't use jump in combat except during PvP. The jump is fucking terrible in combat.

What you're talking about here isn't wrong, but it's an entirely different point. You're basically saying that DkS2's level selection isn't linear, which really isn't all that much to write home about. Options and open-endedness within the levels themselves is actually piss poor and - combined with the liberal littering of bonfires and lazy linearity of a lot of the areas - terribly detrimental to the atmosphere that made DkS/DeS so special.

I don't know guys...

Bayo2 is out next week, two weeks later WoWWOD and GTA V...

Are you guys rich?
Wait, when is GTA5 PS4 due?

Ah, I agree 100%. The actual open-endedness within the levels isn't special at all.
