Nearly 5 hours of Lords of the Fallen footage via Lobos (Dark Souls Streamer)

Vageta was also playing the same preview build.

Its pretty cool that they are targeting the hardcore Dark Souls streamers/youtubers to show off the game.

Dunno, Yoshi. Kinda seems like you're ragging on a 100% functional mechanic that even you concede adds something to the game, just because you personally don't get that much from it.

I can count on two hands the amount of times I've accidentally jumped in 300 hours of DkS. I've had the controls glitch out on me in DkS2 plenty more times.

Anyway, enough derailing.

DkS2 is open ended as shit.

Already from the start, you can choose to go to Heides Tower -> (optional: kill Ornstein) -> No Mans Warf -> Lost Bastille -> Sinner's Rise or Belfry Luna

or

Forest of the Fallen and proceed on that path.

As soon as you get the petrify-thingy, you can go crazy and enter Shaded Woods. Or you could farm enough souls to go down the hole in Majula and start exploring Grave of Saints, The Gutter and the Black Gulch. OR you could pay the chick for the mechanism and go through the entirety of Huntman's Copse -> Harvest Valley -> Earthern Peak -> Iron Keep -> Belfry Sol.

God, the hate for Dark Souls 2 is making people blind.

I'm not sure I get your point. I never said DS2 is linear. My point is, fast travel took over the short cuts mechanics in previous Dark Souls, which is one thing I really like about the game. The feeling of the world coming together as you explore it, you start to make sense of it and it feels satisfying. Never said I hate DS2. I quite like it. Plenty of improvements over the first game. But this is not a DS x DS2 thread.... :P

It is more than obvious from all the videos i have seen so far, the game is nothing like it at all really, it is only used for marketing

That's the impression I've had as well. Loose ties at best. Maybe I'm way off here, but it looked like it resembled Darksiders more than Dark Souls in my opinion. Nevertheless, I wouldn't expect Dark Souls, and I think they've leaned too heavily into that with the way they've marketed the game. Games should stand on their own merit rather than trying to piggyback off of the success of others.

Went ahead and pre-ordered. I love Dark Souls but I never seemed to have enough time to git gud and I see that this game offers a more relaxed take on the genre.

From what I've seen, it looks fun, is a new ip and there is still time until Bloodborne.

Seems to me you are mixing some pr with a lot of forum hyperbole

I'll tell you why.

There was once this insane
ly superior
game called Demon's Souls. In that game, there were no jump mechanics. Jumping is cool and all that, but it does nothing for me except adding some additional platforming to the game. Once you're 100% comfortable in abusing the i-frames of the roll in order to dodge shit, you realize you want to bang your head to the wall when you, by mistake, jump instead of rolling from the attack.

You see I tend to sprint a lot and I combine that with the roll. If I sprint and roll at the same time, the jump comes up. And the jump has next to zero i-frames. It'll result in my getting hit. And everytime this happens when I replay DkS1, I want to destroy the game.

Yes, L3 is an awkward button to press. But I am never in dire situations whenever I jump. I don't use jump in combat except during PvP. The jump is fucking terrible in combat.

You know that if you have the block button held down while running, you'll always roll no matter how fast you press the button again, right?

On topic, I watched the first 30 mins of this and the game seems like it talks way too much for my liking. Does this keep going later on?

I didn't see any screen tearing either. Still, it was a pc-version, but I am gonna get it for PC anyways.

I do want the devs to do a first hour stream of both the console version.
Last time was a big disaster almost 95% teared frames or something like that.

Yes, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they mapped four (!) different functions to a single button while another (L3) went entirely unused. In my opinion, it's one of the worst things in an otherwise stellar game. Thankfully, they had the good sense to give us an option to change it in DaS2, but I fear there will be a regression for Bloodborne.

Yeah that's fair, it's definitely pretty clunky, I was just wondering if they knew about it since that seemed to be a big issue for them.

Anyone know when we can expect reviews to hit? The game is out in just over a week and I'm keen to read some impressions. Main thing I'm worried about is diversity in locations and combat.

Thanks Maffis.

Do we know for sure that the game is released earlier than expected (28th instead of 31th) in Europe?

I had heard mention that this game was not going to be as difficult as the other Dark Souls games. Can anyone confirm? This game just looks like a faster paced, more arcadey Dark Souls. It doesn't however seem easier.

The main appeal of this game is that it's more accessible than Souls games with ingame tutorials, a better sense of direction on where to go and the fact that there are alot more checkpoints. Before a boss there will always be a checkpoint so if you die you don't have to traverse great distances like in Souls to go back. There won't be any "cheap" deaths either as far as I know, meaning no random traps or getting ganged up on several thousand enemies, but it will still be "challenging". Combat is actually described as much slower than Souls, at least compared to Lobosjr (famous Dark Souls streamer) and he says the game actually feels more strategic this way. But you definitely take less damage from attacks and because it's slower, you have a longer time to react. But the combat system is still very deep.

Thanks Maffis.

I have no idea. I saw on their facebook page that only US and Poland will get a release on the 28th. But Steam still says 28th for me even though I'm Swedish. But that can definitely change I guess.

As far as I know, you can't even pre-purchase it on Steam.

That's one way to NOT drive sales. I'm picking up Korra and Bayonetta 2 this week so the only thing that will push me to grab this game is a really nice sale. Gmg usually does the job, but it's also not listed there.

I'm really hyped for this, DS was a bit to much for me (i don't have much patients with dying over and over and over).

This game on the other hand does seem challenging and faster then DS, like people said above me more of an arcade style.

Day one, can't wait till the 31th!!

Will have to devide my time between ffxiv 2.4 and this, oh dear..

"Based on the demo, if Dark Souls is a 10, then I'm giving this an 8, and that says a lot". - at about the 2:28 mark

This game looks pretty good from everything I've seen. I'm really interested in buying it on launch even though I'm fairly certain it will drop in price quickly... i want to support these guys.

Maybe it's my region but there is literally no button to buy the game with on my end.

As of a couple of days ago it's only available in Mexico, the US and Canada. No idea why.

Edit:

Not sure if posted but the developers did a stream recently in a later area of the game. They show of crafting and other stuff.

http://www.twitch.tv/lotfgame/b/578758991

(they have some technical difficulties the 10 first minutes of the stream so skip ahead if you want but they are quite a funny team of people).

That stream was excellent for showing the crafting, a couple different weapons and effects and some different level design...I was starting to worry that the game would be in the same environments the whole time and be too short.

Seems I was mistaken...Have they said how many different areas and how long the game will be?

I heard somewhere between 13-15 hours. Not that long unfortunately, but there is supposedly new stuff to find and see on a NG+ and it also allows you to mix classes on a new game for new playstyles.

Dat late game footage......

I want to wait for reviews but my wallet wants that $42.49 Gamestop deal (with PCD15PR promo code). It's probably best to wait so I don't get the pre-order weapons that'll fuck up the balancing.

My Black Friday purchases are starting to take shape. This will look very good next to Diablo III.

I'd say watching a five-hour stream is far more valuable than any information a review would have to offer.

This game is slowly becoming my most anticipated game after Bloodborne.

Fuck me Yoshi, calm down... don't do this against yourself...

Yeah, I have faith in the core mechanics but what if the game totally falls apart after a certain point? I just want to know there are no massive drops in quality.

The 7 potions after dying are too much. And your xp multiplier should go down whenever you touch a red checkpoint (and as a result, fill your potions and health back up) and not just when you bank xp.
