Quoted from http://aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=20493:

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an interesting bit from Rick McCallum about the much talked about STAR WARS TV series... Now, I hate to jump onto an already moving bandwagon, but I personally agree with those that believe a STAR WARS TV series would work better if it focused on a time far removed from what we've seen, either much farther back in the past of the Republic (like the Jedi's first encounter with the Sith onwards, eh?) or far after the events of RETURN OF THE JEDI (a new Empire rises type thing). I think that would cut down on most of the bitching you'll hear about how crappy it is to see little Luke bumping into little Han Solo who is running around with little Lando and it'd also take away some of the cynicism from the fans of the OT that are worried about a shoddily done TV series negatively impacting on the originals.

Of course if this series is brilliant and well made, then that would significantly cut down on the bitching, too. I am intrigued by how long the series is planned to be. God, I hope this is as cool as it should be... Little Luke growing up sounds boring to me, though. I'd bet it's just an aside if that at all, but if they give him too much adventure and excitement it'll take away from his innocent introduction in the original STAR WARS... What do you folks think?

Hi, Harry:

I will make it short. Rick McCallum, the co-producer of Star Wars the Revenge of the Sith, revealed the details of Star Wars TV series when he was at the press conference in Japan today. The article I read was from the Mainichi Shimbun (Mainichi Paper) web site, a reputable newspaper in Japan.

He said,

The story will take place in about 20 year span between Episode 3 and Episode 4.
It will depict how characters end up being together (didn’t mention who).
It will depict how Luke grows up.

George Lucas will start working on it as soon as he finishes Indy Jones, he said. The production will start next year, and the whole series will be about 100 hours long.

He also mentioned 3-D version of all six movies “within two to three” years.

Interesting?

FYI, the link for the original article is below. It is in Japanese:

Woot!!! I hope this is true. I hope other Sci-Fi series just do a set amount of episodes with a begining and an end already planned.

Enough about the Skywalkers .. give me Han Solo being space pirate and being chased by bounty hunters. God damn, that would rule.

You can just heard 3/4 of fanbase bitching now. "Its not as dark as Empire or Sith! It focuses on children characters. I cant relate to child perspective. Give me rape, violence and bleakness only. :lol "

Luke Skywalker...Gayness. After watching Anakin Skywalker, the ultimate Star Wars badass grow up, I don't want to watch Luke, the ultimately homosexual Star Wars hero grow up.

Yes, but each bounty hunter shoots first before Han kills them.

This is good news. I was hoping it wasnt a serious series. This is more like EU stuff but nowhere near as extreme as the dumb books.

This will probably be Young Indiana Jones, only with north Africa being replaced by Mos Eisley. Can't really say if it'll be good or bad yet though

Ugh. I don't want to see Luke grow up. As, in addition to the fact it would likely be boring to watch, i'm sure it would open MORE continuity errors between ep III and IV. I'd like to see the series set in the Knights Of The Old Republic game time, or maybe focusing on Luke's son. Hell, I'm sure SOMETHING could be cooked up on the Whills, or Yoda's origins.

Great, a buddy comedy starring chewbacca and a young han solo, in their quest to smuggle spices throughout the galaxy! watch out for boba fett! *rollseyes*

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but when I heard they wanted to make a live action TV show, I immediatly thought it was a bad idea. Then, as the announced more details, and the told us it would be set between Episode III and IV, my worst fears were confirmed. No good can come of this.

I'm with the others who have said, lets see what happens in the galaxy in a different time period. I'd love to see some thing set in the Old Republic or following Jedi, as they build the New Republic.

I hate PREQUELS... they suck... Star Wars I-III sucked and only had a few decent scenes...

Star Trek: Enterprise sucked...

Go to the future...

Hire Mark Hamill as a Luke in the role of Yoda as the last Jedi training a new group... have a new Empire forming with the lacky who was below Darth Vader in the chain... maybe a hidden group of Sith that the Emperor was secretly training...

I HATE PREQUELS...

Didn't Lucas say this show "wasn't going to focus on any of the main characters?" WTF happened. I was looking forward to seeing Biggs' and Wedge's days in academy pranking the dean and stealing panties from the sorority houses.

WOW, that's long. That's like 133 episodes assuming they're 45 mins each. They must have a lot to tell.

WHO DEY!?
I think this is bullshit. Lucas himself said the show will deal with peripheral characters. Luke does not fall into that category.

I hope they focus some on Vader learning his Dark Side powers being the Emperor's apprentice and all that. Building the Deathstar could be interesting also.

Not to mention Yoda communicating with Qui-Gon. Some of the sidestories could be interesting.

Most of the article is bullshit, especially the "after Indy" bit.

Last week, they filmed the AFI tribute to Lucas at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. At the afterparty, Lucas was telling people he was flying down to Sydney this week or next to start working on the TV series stuff.

Work on the series is starting right now. The lead main character has already been cast (according to Lucas when they filmed the MTV TRL event at Skywalker Ranch), and Lucasfilm is hiring people like crazy for the series including effects people at ILM, prop builders, etc.

The "100 hours long" thing means there are going to be 100 one-hour episodes or four seasons. Each season will be written and filmed at one time, which is how they did Young Indy. Lucas will do the first season and then hand it over to full-time showrunners. There's a strong rumor now that Frank Darabont may do one season since he did a lot of Young Indy.

But Batman Begins isn't as much a prequel as it is "Fuck you, fuck you, and fuck you, we're pretending none of that bullshit happened. And fuck you."
