I'm also confused by this
I thought they was having one SKU with a optional drive but instead they have two SKU's with the main one again being a Disc One and one with the option of a Disc drive add-on.
Doesn't look like Sony are giving up physical anytime soon.
In fact they're promoting it.
I don't know if you are trying to be funny or something.. but I will give you the benefit of the doubt.
They basically have only ONE model now. As far as manufacturing goes. The only difference is that they are still selling two packages. One with the PS5 on its own for $450, the other, is the PS5 + the ODD already bundled in $499 (digital model + ODD) which is the same price you pay for a ODD PS5 right now.
The way they are doing it now, is as if you are buying a PS5 with a game bundled in, only in this case, the bundle, if you so choose it, is the ODD. And their pricing reflects that, buy a stand-alone PS5, $450. Buy PS5 + ODD bundle, $500. By PS5 + ODD seperately, $530.
This is pretty much what I expected to happen, only difference is that I expected the ODD to cost more ($100) and expected the new PS5 to cost less ($399). But I did predict that you would be able to buy a new PS5 + ODD for $499, which was the price of the launch ODD PS5, which you can... just didn't expect them to have a bundle.
