New Sonic game rumored to be unviled in February for almost every platform

Sign me up! Colors/Generations were awesome, and I even enjoyed the handheld versions of both. Can't wait to see it unveiled. >:3

Glad to hear it's mostly Modern gameplay. I was never *that* big of Classic Sonic's gameplay. I do hope it's longer than Generations, though. It was woefully short.

Not only do they put it on Vita, they make it the same as the console version rather than up-porting the 3DS version.

*sniffle*

Good on ya, SEGA.

...But, according to this rumor, they'd be supporting Nintendo's console this time, the Wii U.

As it is, presumably there'd be one version of the game developed for PC/PS3/360/Wii U, which is down-ported to Vita, and up-ported to Sony and Microsoft's next console (better framerate, higher polygon models and visual effects, etc). Assuming it's Hedgehog Engine, they pretty much need a second, different game developed for the 3DS, since it presumably can't handle the Hedgehog Engine. Enter Dimps, who'll throw together something. So that's at least two different games being developed with the same name.

We know they're not interested in getting the Hedgehog Engine to work on Wii, or they literally can't, so they either have to make the Wii version be a port of the 3DS version, or they have to develop a completely separate, third game just for the Wii, which will be a very budget-minded console at that point. And there's plenty of budget Sonic titles on that platform already.
I understand that sega created a solid fanbase on wii with decent to million level sales... Why would they abandon that fanbase? It makes no sense.

I'm gonna guess we'll get Tails, Knuckles, Shadow and Amy, and that'll be our lot.

They've just spent the last 5 years returning to making Sonic-only games, I doubt we're getting anything too insane in the character department.

Sounds a little too good to be true. But then again, Generations was indeed a great game. So I guess a Sonic game sounding this good is plausible these days.

I hope Blaze and Espio make the playable cut.

i really want cream i just loved her character and im 24 & cheese is ace also

I hope they make some new animal friends for Sonic. How else am I going to keep my fanfictions fresh and interesting?!

new friend dont go down well with sonic fans , sure there enough character already to flush them out aka knuckles get him back into the spotlight

I think I may need to do some more research on the Sonic fandom then. Can't have my potential piss-taking be laughed at because it's not representative of the real thing.

Seriously though, I hope this is a pseudo-sequel to Generations. I thought that game was pretty swell.

I suspect that characters will be separated into sets rather than each one having their own unique ability. For instance Sonic, Shadow and Blaze would all play very similarly, with differences being prevalent in top running speed and the amount of boost in the gauge.

Let's hope they keep improving. Sonic Colours was an okay start and Generation only had a few missteps (bosses and Colours levels, specifically). If they can finally make a game that's good all the way through then that is some cool beans right there. Hopefully they have the good sense to keep the friends NON-PLAYABLE. Even Knuckles. Even Tails. It's always terrible.

Also a revival/update of the Chao garden would be pretty cool.

My favourite publisher. I guess I'll buy Banana Split as thanks for their rock solid Vita support.

I'm glad they'll presumably going back to the Unleashed/Colors/Generations gameplay style, because I still don't trust Sonic Team with full 3D levels.

The 10+ character thing kinda worries me, though. They've only just recently finally nailed a style for Sonic and now they're adding 8-9 characters on top of that all of a sudden? That's exactly the kind of decision that leads to the unpolished and completely unnecessary alternate gameplay styles seen in the Adventure games and Sonic '06.

I hope they do, those Sonic only years have being brutal for me. Then they make Sonic 4-2 and I can't play as Tails unless multiplayer? Goddamn it Sega. I know fans had being clamoring for Sonic only but fuck.

Still I guess werehog and CSonic where different enough to be called other characters and they did gave us a few stages with Metal Sonic, but I've being wanting to play as Tails ever since Sonic Advance 3.

I would absolutely love to see an actual Sonic Generations 2, but I doubt that'll happen. Generations was my absolute favorite platform game of the past decade. Fucking loved the hell out of it. I preferred it to Mario Galaxy even, if you can believe it.

It's amazing to think it was released on the same platforms at Sonic 2006. *shudder*

Sonic Colors sold, but keep in mind it was Wii + DS sales.

Disappointing that it will have 2D sections again, but the 3D sections have only been getting better and better.

I like both, but I do in fact prefer the 3D sections as they are quite thrilling.

They abandoned it for the benefit of the game? I dunno. At least they can support Wii U this time.

Sonic Generations was miles better than anything they created for the Wii.

Any idea how much it sold? I thought it sold really low on NPD at least...
It was vastly undershipped upfront. In the end it outsold all the other versions though, and NPD has it over 400k now in the US.

I liked Generations more, but Colors was still great and not at all "miles behind". Secret Rings and Black Knight were both pretty awful though.

I really wanted to like Colors but I could never get into it. The level design just didn't do anything for me.

Hope it's good like Colors (never played Generations, should get it on PC though).

The Mario Galaxies had many 2D/3D levels in the game, they were pretty fine. Colors had a lot of good levels like that too.

And regarding sales, isn't Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed doing well on Wii U? They did say for the last 2 Sonic games that the Wii wasn't supported due to it lacking in power.

I can't wait to play as Tails in a fully 3D environment again. I hope Flying is done in a different button so that Tails/Knuckles and others (Rouge, Espio?) have access to the homing attack.

If I'm going to be real for a second, Sonic Generation character models where so good that I want to play as multiple characters.

Also I hope we have a story, like an actual story involving those characters. I don't care how cheesy it is. Sega has all those new voice actor and cool lines in Generations but no story to take advantage of it.

Last I heard, in the UK, the Wii SKU had done less than 1% of total sales for Transformed.

All of the good Sonic games get developed by Sonic Team Japan.

As long as this game is not by Dimps, it should be just as awesome as Colors / Generations.

I mean with an anime/cell shaded artstyle.

Sonic has never look that cartoony, even in the Genesis games, he didn't had a black outline or anything.

I like the current look, I just want better animations, more AA and a smoother framerate. I mean, Sonic Unleashed/Generations are some of the best looking 3D platformers already.

This sounds all well and good as a concept, but how does it feel? Sonic Team could still definitely fuck up somewhere.

Keeping expectations in check but I do love the idea of the concept and hope it does become a reality. I have always wanted them to go back to Sonic's friends playing similarly to how he plays, except with their own gameplay quirks (Knuckles' gliding, climbing; Tails' flying, etc.) I just can't understand why they moved away from that when it'd take even less effort than what they did in Sonic Adventure 2.

Maybe this game will be called Sonic Adventure 3 just because you can play as multiple characters. :P

I just hope after Sonic Generations, SEGA just said Fuck it, to the demands of rabid Classic Sonic fans. CSonic gameplay is as cool as you can get and he has black eyes and a classic look.

Almost (if not all) problems with Sonic 06 had being fix, so Sonic can start next gen doing things differently, not holding back to please a few people. I've being itching for a new story, but it's so hard when you can't introduce new characters.
