New Sonic game rumored to be unviled in February for almost every platform

Yeah, I can't see them doing any console-exclusive Sonic games when all three consoles are capable of handling the game. It wouldn't make much business sense.

3DS could get 3 even (SASRT, M&S4, Dimps platformer).

Yes, true. Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed is coming next week, then the (pretty possible) M&S4 and Sonic main from Dimps. Sonic year on 3DS!!! (still not understanding SASRT's delay compared to other versions).

Am I the only one hoping for having a proper version of Football Manager 2014 for 3DS? They're still releasing the PSP SKU ( and it even sold better than what they thought!), if only they add a 3DS SKU I'd buy it istantly =P

Yeah, that's what I started thinking when ASRT was released for almost everything (it's a different game, but you know what I mean), and with Sega's financial issues. Same with Sonic CD's Taxman port (outside of Nintendo platforms). I could see them going for the cell phone route in some circumstances.

They also seem to be okay with PC mods, so I hope they end up releasing more Sonic games for that platform because I love what I see from almost everyone.

Well, the 3DS version runs on a completely different engine from every other version so it's really not the same game. It's a different take on the game built from the ground up for 3DS.

Please God be for next gen systems (Ps4, Xbox 3)

Inject that 60fps Hedgehog engine into my veins!!

Side note:

It would be awesome if they tweaked Sonics movement when slower. He had much better control in Generations, but not as much as I'd prefer.

This jankiness makes the game feel less polished at times. And Sonic sometimes controls incredibly stiff when not going fast. I know the stages aren't designed for exploration in particular, but it'd be nice to have.

Unleashed was the worst offender of this lol. So stiff.

Sonic Racing 3DS was probably delayed because it was a ground up build rather than a port.

Sega should consider putting the Retro Engine Sonic CD on the eShop. With 3D added, I'd gobble that up.

If you're talking about SASRT, the fact is that it was dated first for the same day as other versions, then around mid-December as well as the Vita SKU, and then it got delayed for this February. I know it was a SKU with a different engine, but it seems it was destined to release with the others ( or with the Vita's), so I'm wondering what kind of problems they could have encountered during the development for a 2 months delay.

Yeah, that's the one.

Seriously, what the hell were they thinking with that game.

If my memory recalls right...
Sometime before Heroes was released, Sega released a survey onto the internets - one of the questions asked which character fans wanted to see a game made out of. There would no doubt of been other factors, but I do believe that could of been one of them.

Actually, it's crazy to think that back then they churned out a Sonic game each year starting from Sonic Heroes.

I guess it depends

Didn't Sonic Colors on Wii/DS
Do better than Sonic Generations on Ps3/360/3DS?

So making it Nintendo exclusive.. could have some benefits.

Come to think about it, Nintendo portables have had at least 3 Mega Man games since the GB, 3 mainline Sonic games since the GBA, and 3 Castlevanias since the GB. This will probably be the first gen where that doesn't happen (most likely due to Mega Man :P).

Sega named the link to that Hedgehog Day blog post Happy Hedgehog Day 3. The blog post featured content on Sonic's tenth anniversary (when Sonic Adventure 2 was released). The Sonic Team live stream specifically featured the Sonic Team staff that worked on Sonic Adventure 2.

I'm calling it now. Sonic Adventure 3 on almost every SKU for holiday 2013.

PS. Does anyone have any idea what the "red herring" anagram featured in the post means? That's one mystery I have no idea about.

You mean what is a Red Herring in that context?

A red herring. Say you were to solve this simple math problem: John had 2 apples. Cindy gave John 2 apples. Mindy ate an apple. How many apples does John have?

Naturally, you would say John has 4 apples. The bit about Mindy is what's called a red herring; useless information to throw you off. The blog at SEGA was throwing us off with the bolded letters that eventually spell out red herring. They're basically being trolls.

God I hope they make a Wii U-exclusive, we got a load of Wii-exclusive, I'd kill to see what Sega can pull off with Sonic when they focus on one HD platform.

Haven't most games been good when they've been focused on one platform anyway? One platform helps maintain polish and focus, they can focus on making it, you know, good when they don't have to worry about bringing it to a dozen platforms (exaggeration I know).

Still shocked we didn't see Gens on Wii U for the holidays, I mean if EA is content with a late ME3 port (as was everyone else at launch), why not Sega with a game that'd actually make some sense?

It wouldn't have competed with ASRT since that's a spin-off, plus competitive pricing would've helped.

Probably because Sonic Transformed was a Wii U launch title.

TIME TO MAKE SOME DECENTLY RECIEVED GAMES FOLKS!

Sonic 2006.

Decently recieved is better than what is known in some circles as the worst game of the generation. Sonic Generations was an enjoyable and polished Sonic game, arguably the best 3D outing in my opinion. I only remember enjoying the DC adventure games more and time has not been kind to them. If they can polish the formula, add some more control while maintaining the sense of speed, it could and SHOULD be another step on the return to form. These are good times.

You're correct that Sonic has historically done better on Nintendo platforms than the others. It's unlikely we'll see a Wii U exclusive this year, though. The install base on Wii U is still too small for a company like Sega to do an exclusive.

It'll be multi platform. Wii U is the smart money to sell the most units, but they'll still want clean up from 360/PS3 and maybe even Wii and PS4/New XBox.

It'd fit in line with the SA3 domains that were registered some time ago.

Red Herring is the new shitty friend

I guess that all depends on the theory that Nintendo console owners gravitate more towards console exclusives than multi-platform.

Personally, I don't really buy into it too much. I think if they released the same game across all three consoles, the Nintendo SKU would be the biggest seller, but they'd also do decent enough numbers on the other two as well.

Next Sonic game is based in Texas! I knew Iizuka-san wouldn't let us down /joke

although, what if it is based in Texas? XD

If it were the best case scenario it would be a stage from Sonic Unleashed 2
Minus the werehog.

Worst case Scenario, Sonic in a cowboy outfit using his new lasso mechanic alongside a horse character that on account of Sonic character design looks nothing like a horse.

nah, it'd be like neither of those. This is Iizuka-san we are talking about. He does the unpredictable.

Come on Sonic '06 sequel!

Said no one ever.

There were actual people in this thread asking for a Shadow The Hedgehog sequel.

EDIT: SA3 eh? I hope the game is designed more like SA1 than SA2 (I hated being forced to change characters). ...I would also love to see the return of the Chao Garden with online. Oh and no melodramatic stories, please.

The rumor in the OP doesn't really sound like SA3 aside from the multiple playable characters, sounds like Sonic 3 of sorts, I want relatively unique stages (SA2 had completely new stages for every character, SA1 was the former).

A Sonic Adventure 3 title would make sense if the rumors of playing as different characters turn out to be true.

Can't wait to see this. Sonic games have been great post-Sonic-2006.

It'd be easy to dismiss Sonic Adventure 3 as a toung-in-cheek working-title, but then Sonic Adventure 2 was released in HD as of recent. (Albeit amongst over Sega classics but still)

Bets are that it'll still be Unleashed style gameplay/stage design.

i dont really keep up with gaf, how reliable is he? I'm guessing must be pretty reliable since lots of people are believing him... and in that case

lol really wouldn't surprise me that the game was based in Texas then, XD. I also think people are taking the rumor way too literally. Being Unleashed/Generations style could be an adventure style game. Generations had a lot more 3D platforming compared to Unleashed, this game could have even more.

With hopes of the rumor being somewhat true, I'll leave this idea for open world Sonic:

open-world-platformer-concept.png

'Linear areas' are more based on speed and akin to Modern Generations levels.
'Open areas' are more platform based and akin to Sonic 3 and Mario 64. Open, but not slow necessarily slow paced.

It's been posted before, but it's such a good idea I had to post again.

What this game needs is good level design, no booster automation crap, and a realistic set of physics. Momentum is a must.

Funny, I don't like to consider SA3 anything but a name. We've had like, three titles that had "Sonic Adventure 3" as their working title to the point that what it's commonly associated with; genre-roulettes and multiple storylines, is something most people ended up frowning upon massively once Sonic 06 rolled around and proved Sonic Team's inability to pace shit properly. I would say they learned from their mistakes but just straying from the safe formula was what caused Unleashed to happen, which was a half complete mess, padding notwithstanding.

If they do call the game Sonic Adventure 3, it'll probably play nothing like it, hence why they're probably only going with the title to satiate some die-hards who believe the name matters. They're too fixated with the Unleashed formula to strip the game down and go back to basics.
