It seems odd looking out it from the outside, but when you get invested in a team you feel a sense of ownership. That's why you cheer when they do well and feel like garbage when they lose.

When you're emotionally invested in a team, like say the Detroit Lions, and you follow every move the team makes through the offseason and season, root for them through thick and thin, it feels like you're a part of the team for better or worse. When the Lions have a heartbreaking loss I feel it in Los Angeles.

I remember when we beat The Outsiders at Slamboree VIII and brung the tag titles back to WCW.

In all seriousness, different strokes for different folks. I was a huge Yankees fan in my day but never WeMy'd. Fan is short for fanatic so it makes sense I guess.
