Next-gen leaders talk about their consoles

Haha, this is hilarious stuff. :lol
K.K way of speaking is amusing. He's kinda like Yoda, cozy and seemingly unharmfull but you sort of know he can do some damage.

"Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Shihan (Karate master), and Microsoft is still not a blackbelt."

""It isn't a bad thing to have a high price. When we released the original PlayStation at 39,800 yen ($368), Nintendo's Super Famicom was in the 10,000 yen range ($100 range). Still, everyone went for the PlayStation. This time, ours [the PS3] will be like a BMW that's equipped with a Ferrari engine. Nintendo's [Revolution] will be something like a new model of a family car. Some people might want it, but if it was me, I'd want to advance to the next level."

Is kutaragi on crack?

The Next-gen Videogame war:OH ITS TEH ON BITCHES!!!

Just the key statements.

Bach:Sony's [PS3's] capabilities are the same as ours.We don't know about the selling price yet, but to say the least, our cost of manufacturing [an Xbox 360] is less than Sony's [PS3].
We will become the market leader with our next-generation console

Kutaragi:Microsoft is trailing behind us, but they are not a threat.Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Shihan (Karate master), and Microsoft is still not a blackbelt. Just like with their Operating Systems, they might come out with something good around the third generation of their release.

Iwata:Creating game software in High Definition will require everything from the [graphic's] models to the background to be redone, and it will bloat up development costs.
Game consoles are not an essential product in life, so we want to make ours as compact, thin, and as inexpensive as we can, so that it won't be viewed with hostility by family members.Nintendo is a company that likes to see smiles on the faces of people that love entertainment. We're not about selling new kinds of TVs or taking control of the living room.

I have this nagging feeling MS is going to be trounced next gen by Sony. Maybe even worse than this gen. I hope not because I'm buying X360 at launch. Comments from high level MS execs do not instill much confidence in their product to me.

"Sony's [PS3] will be able to use seven controllers simultaneously, and connect with two High Definition TV sets. But it's hard to share a single screen with seven people, and it's also difficult to imagine a room with two High Definition TV sets. We don't know about the selling price yet, but to say the least, our cost of manufacturing [an Xbox 360] is less than Sony's [PS3].

The XBOX 360 WILL BE CHEAPER TO MAKE THAN PLAYSTATION 3 (even though we don't know exactly how much that might be)

Translation: Buy ours, we swear it kicks as much ass as the ps3, we promise.

Sony and Kutagari are about as arrogant and prick-like as you cn get. At least when Yamamauchi was arrogant, he was arrogant funny.

:lol

Kutaragi gives the PS2 way too much credit in terms of DVD penetration.

Nintendo actually has the best responses IMO.

Who cares if he is arrogant or not. This is business, you gotta bitch slap your competitors. What do you expect him to do, praise the other companies or something?

Good responses by all! I agree with the MS guy when he says Sony is taking a risk with Bly Ray in PS3.

Cell, RSX, Blu Ray, Backwards Compatibility, XDR Ram, all those internet/wireless ports and so some other unnecessary ports. Man the thing must cost a fortune to produce but it looks like Sony is going all out.

Yea, in an interview with a Japanese magazine conducted in Japanese and aimed at Japanese readers.

So of course he is talking about the Japanese launch which will be $399 just like the PS2 launch was $399 in Japan.

US should be $300 like always.

Yup. But costs will even out over time. MS is pushing the HD ERA of games, but I wish they would stop. Sony has already proven they will win the PR war against them (Xbox 1.5 anyone? PS2 ending the console wars. PS3 unveiling versus the X360 unveiling. Etc.) and they are going to twist that HD ERA slogan on MS once PS3 is out since it'll play the same 'HD games' and also play HD movies. It's going to be a nightmare for MS.

I have the same feeling. Sony will go out of their way to make sure there's a noticeable difference.

Not really. It's all about the games! Xbox 360 will have a six months lead on PS3 and if the DS/PSP battle is any indication, PS3 will have a tough time catching up to 360. Plus add the fact that MS is planning to release Gears of War on 'emergence day' which will probably look better than all PS3 launch games. MS also might unleash the Halo 3 marketing campaign around PS3 launch. Those two alone might have a bad effect on PS3 sales.

I think PS3 will have a tough time catching upto Xbox 360 sales.

A Sony vs Nintendo future would be excellent as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, Microsoft is an easy target though.....Sony needs to keep on their toes though, because unlike Nintendo, these guys aren't oblivious pushovers...

To bad you are living in fantasy land. PS3 is launching with GTA. Nothing Xbox360 will have will be able to compete with the hype Sony will make for PS3 and GTA.

No chance in hell will it launch with GTA. It might be in development for PS3 but it won't launch with PS3.

Nintendo owns the portable market and has a platform which sells for 100 dollars less than the PSP. MS isn't even comparable in the console market. You are looking at two products which will be roughly the same price ($299 versus $299). Halo and Halo 2 did great for MS but hardly made a dent in the Sony PS2 empire. It's a bit unfair to look towards Bungie to be the savior of the X360 against the PS3.

I think X360 will do better than Xbox, but that will be because of an expanding videogame market and not at the expense of Sony. I think MS is playing it too safe this gen in terms of what they are offering.

Gee, MS might be in some trouble then, when Zelda is released around the same time as the XBOX 360 launch and has better gameplay than all launch X360 games combined :)

Seriously, though, X360 is not overwhelmingly better than the PS3 so I don't see how they are going to stop people from wanting a PS3...

And yet, it has no use for people that aren't playing with a high-definition TV set.

I agree with Iwata there but there's still a certain amount of free hype that comes with supporting the high end equipment since that's what most of the gaming media will be running their games on.

Would you rather play the PS3 version running at 1080p or the muddy looking Revolution version at 480i?

I've been thinking about the storage formats for awhile, and how can you not be excited to have a system packed with Blu Ray instead of regular DVD? We may be getting some HUGE game worlds next gen pushed with hi res next generation graphics and sound. What if a game ends up being 20 GIGS? 30 GIGS? 40 GIGS? I can play the game seamlessly on PS3. Am I going to have to constantly switch discs in a next gen GTA style game on X360 because the storage format is limited to 9 GIGS? Or do X360 owners get games compressed to hell like some current Gamecube games?

My biggest beef with the X360 is its tiny storage format compared to the competition.

Think about Madden 2007. EA has access to NFL archives now with that sweet deal they made. Think about all the extra stuff EA is going to be able to pile onto the PS3 version of Madden 2007 since it'll have about 50 GIGS of space to use. You'll need 5 Xbox 360 DVD discs to replicate the same.

If it is any indication it shows how difficult is to beat what is considered a market leader (as Nintendo is in the handheld market) even if it has a clearly inferior product.
Also PSP is gaining ground much faster in US (if DS sales continue to stay so flat PSP will surpass it by the summer) where DS had a 5 months lead than in Japan where they were out nearly at the same time.So it's really not a matter of time advantage.

Lets see now...

PS3 launch time:

MS
Gears of War
Halo 3 marketing campaign
Huge library of games
GTA wannabe games (Saint Row and Frame City Killers)
Might be cheaper than PS3 if not there is always room for price cuts

Sony will have to fight all those things and their console will be more expensive compared to 360 or revolution. Then you add in the ports! The games that were available on Xbox 360 in November will now be ported over to PS3 and everyone will go around calling it Portstation 3 or something.

It will be a tough battle!

MrBob summed up Sony's biggest advantage. Add a free BR movie player to the mix, and you are smoking something if you don't think the Sony box will sell for simply that reason alone.

wel, if you're expecting huge increases like that in game content, how much are you willing to pay? people are already complaining that games might cost $9 more next gen. 20-40 gig game? the cost for the developer would absolutely skyrocket to make that much content. and of course, that would be passed on to us.

We can all learn to be better persons through Fist of the North Star:

Power without perception is spiritually useless, and therefore of no true value.

:D

Microsoft has never had to face a company on the scale of Sony. All the Xbox Division is, is a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. E3 has demonstrated what MS will get if they want to launch into a F.U.D. battle with Sony.

I think it's a good idea that Nintendo is keeping a low profile, and hopefully while J. Allard is busy making up big numbers for interviewers; they'll snatch the second place spot away from MS. :P

As bis as GTA is, one game is not gonna decide who's the market leader. Sony would come out on top even without GTA as an exclusive.

That said, some people are overreacting here. MS is gonna be fine. They're not gonna "win" per se, but they're gonna increase their marketshare in all territories. A good thing IMO.

The next gen will be a console war to end all wars, who will survive from the scorched earth after it???? who knows.... but the EA cockroaches will be a forming! :lol

Dude I told you before, it won't be $300 Canadian. Hell PSP right now sells for $300 in Canada. We are looking at about $450 IMO.

Incidentally, I find it humorous that as the hardware differences in the three toys becomes less obvious; these company heads grasp at straws to justify the current shitty console market model.

ONE CONSOLE, ALL GAMES!

You are making alot of assumptions there...

Look, without question, MS will do well with the X360 but as far as worldwide market domination is concerened (that is what we are talking about here, right?) Microsoft doesn't have what it takes to take that crown from Sony*next gen* (as in PS3 vs. X360).....Sony has to drop the ball for that to happen (which is possible, of course, just not very likely IMO)

You have, currently, 190M PlayStation customers worldwide that are probably pretty happy with the brand...if they weren't, Xbox would be outselling PS2 today, which it is not...

Furthermore, assuming PS3 wont have the games is a dangerous gamble......what is the likelyhood the PS3 won't have tons of games that appeal to lots of people???

We *KNOW* SCEI has secured the big franchises (GTA, MGS, non-2year old Final Fantasy games) and I am sure PS3 will have AT LEAST as many games (good and bad) as X360

Dont count on PlayStation 3 to lack the games...

Totally agree. IMO they need more original properties or big licenses right at launch to make some noise. Seriously, if they don't get GTA or a GTA-like blockbuster exclusive, they will not even dent Sony next gen.

You seem dissapointed with that? Why?

Other than the possibility that it may cost more for you to buy, why would there be any reason to not want the most value you can get? To me, that was one of the best moves Sony has made, and one of the main reasons I'm so psyched for the PS3. It's the total package, they covered all of the bases and really thought ahead. Microsoft seems to be the one touting the HD ERA so much, yet Sony's box tops them in every respect to HD, supporting higher HD resolution standard, two HD outputs, and HD movies.

Which seems to be a complete 360 (guh) compared to this generation, where Microsoft really thought ahead with their hardware, and future-proofed their system. In doing so, that was probably the most important thing as to them getting the amount of support they got, and the reason why I personally have nearly all of my multiplatform titles on the Xbox. I would imagine that the case is the same among most multi-console owners, and that would probably attribute at least somewhat to the way Xbox software sales do so well proportionate to the install base, at least in the US. With next gen, they won't have that advantage, and the playing field will leveled, or even tipped in Sony's favor, so what advantages will the 360 have? Just think about it, if the Xbox was not the most powerful this generation, how successful do you think it would have been?

Yeah, I know that, I meant $300USD. There's no way in hell it'd be $300CDN, probably $400-450, depending on how strong the doller is when it launches.
