Hard to Kill
Imagine how terrible the other screenshots must've looked. I think the game looks pretty good in motion, but the screenshots are rather damning.

Maybe Jim Ryans nephew works in the marketing department of 343?
I have no idea how things are at 343 right now, but man I hope they don't crunch too much until the game comes out.

Because from what we saw there's still a lot of work to do while correcting the problems that led to this disaster.

Considering the architectural improvements, you think PS5‘s GPU will offer over 2x the performance as the Xbox One X?

You probably could do some back of the napkin maths, but are you referring to brand new games or bc games?

It also depends on how the ps5 boost mode works.

Fake gamers like phil spencer and aaron greenberg thats how.
This Phil Spencer? Even for you, that's a silly thing to write.

They have a lot of work ahead of them. I hope they postpone it until the game is ready.

VS

Halo Infinite running "UP TO 4K" on Xbox Series X as was confirmed by 343 industries, meaning that it won't be Native 4K.

I was going to give 343 the benefit of doubt and suggest the 'up to 4K resolution' was because the game is also on Xbox One at much lower resolution but the description on the official Halo Infinite YouTube video makes it clear it refers specifically to the XSX albeit representative of the experience because it was actually running on PC.

I can't see a single LOD transition or pop in, soooo good!

There's something odd at the wall at about the 35 second mark. Hard to say what it is, and it's certainly nothing that detracts from the overall experience. It looks buttery smooth and a lot better than I anticipated.

edit: 33 second, give or take. Might just be a reflection.

On paper.
This is really back of the napkin maths and someone has better data set than me but think there is 28% improvement from gcn to rdna 1 and then a 25% improvement from rdna1 to rdna2 so back of the napkin maths suggest there is a 1.6 improvement from gcn to rdna2 which makes the one x effectively ~4 RDNA2 so yeah probably at least a 2x on the one x.

Big caveat is that games on consoles are usual code for spec architecture (gcn, rdna) unlike pc.

Although I'm skeptical of their claims, we also have to remember that bandwidth also plays a huge role as TF is just one part of the GPU. The PS5's GPU, 5700, and XT all have 448 GB/s, but on PS5 that 448 GB/s is shared between the CPU + GPU, and IIRC it's even shared with the Tempest Engine (AMD CUs stripped of its caches). Whereas those RDNA 1 dGPUs have their 448 GB/s fully reserved for themselves. We'll see how it all pans out, with RDNA 2's architectural improvements and other hardware customizations combined with Sony's very efficient low-level API, I do think PS5 will punch above its weight even compared to equivalent RDNA 2 PC dGPU over the coming years.
While bandwidth situation seems far from ideal, it's also worth remembering that PS5's GPU has at least 30% more cache bandwidth, rasterization and fill rate compared to RX 5700 and around 20% more compared to RX 5700 XT. I am using the max boost clock of these GPU's by the way, the real world difference would be even larger. This without adding the architectural improvements, customizations, closed system/API efficiency gains etc. as you said. Thus i agree with Dan of Rivia, comparing consoles to discrete PC GPU's can be misleading.

I honestly don’t think we will get mid gen refreshes this time. The PS5 and Series X are more powerful than what XB1 and PS4 were when they released. These consoles have great CPUs and more than beefy enough GPU grunt to last for the next 7 yrs or so. Plus die shrinks are slowing down and we will be hitting a wall in terms how much smaller companies can produce silicone at. I think any gains we get for smaller die process will be to lower power consumption with the same performance.

If any next gen consoles could use a mid gen bump it would the the Series S.

Why would you? You generally can't see far and where it would be possible, there is the good old fog.
Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but this is not an example where I expect problems like that.

Cache bandwidth? ... which cache? L1, L2?
On which clocks?
This is just something we don't know. Sony is not very open on the internals of the chip and I don't think this will change.
What is clear is that we will see things in the future, that are not possible (in this quality) on RX5700 (XT).

Both L1, L2$. PS5's cache b/w is about 30-20% faster than 5700, 5700 XT, respectively, based on their max clock speeds.

I thought we were past comparing in-engine bullshots with cherry picked screenshots running in-game. Apparantly not.
I mean, with Sony's ways of showing their games since the PS4, they have been using In-game graphics whether they're cinematics or gameplay, which they're the same obviously.

Horizon Forbidden West will be the best looking game when it releases, that is NOT a prediction, that's a spoiler.

Let's see

PS5 won't have proper Ray Tracing > Next-gen games Ray Traced nowhere to be seen on Series X
PS5 overheats > Youtuber confirms that Series X runs very hot, even on idle
PS5 has production issues > First Series X to leave production dated September 15
PS5 is RDNA 1 with bolt on RDNA 2 > Series X is the console that doesn't follow "standard" RDNA 2 design

Seems like the FUD press was real and had tons of projection in it.

Edit: I believe this is the post that got me banned from this thread. I was advised to retract my statement but unfortunately the quoted post was not correct (or I don't know how to find posts by number, though the number quoted was in the 173k range), so I just traced back my final interactions.

Based on the instructions I was given I will not be retracting my statement to point 2 above. My reasons? Because the post compares what was said before by several posters here in the past few months and recently proven a lie (the PS5 overheats) with the current statements by several "influencers" that the Xbox Series X runs hot or very hot. I based myself on the Giant Bomb video and will quote the statement below:

"Here's what's crazy, right? This thing, so this was just plugged in Stand-by mode and guys, the entire thing is a little toasty".

Looking at the movement of the hands and considering he's holding the console, it's a fair assumption to mention he's referring to the whole console, not the SSD expansion card.. Also, "toasty" is a word commonly used to describe "hot" or "very hot" in less formal circles. Yes, it is an improper usage of the word, but it is what it is. My statement absolutely does not misrepresent what was said and corroborated by multiple statements.

This is also backed up by:

Where the heat is described as "Violent" by a French speaker. I understand French, and the thread includes statements by Native french speakers confirming the translation is accurate.

Again, I'm assuming this is the post that got me thread banned. Please feel free to correct me.

we already know the footage was running in real time on a PS5, next question

Err..no one has said its not running in real time using the game engine. But during cut scenes much higher polygon assets are used because everything is on show, front & centre so to speak, so developers push the GPU's to their limits in non interactive parts of the game. The first Horizon game did exactly the same thing, and so is the sequel.

Why do I keep reading people assuming any BC that doesn’t run in PS5 native boost mode will just run like a vanilla PS4?

From that Cerny PS5 tech dive video months back you see both PS4 Pro and OG PS4 modes are supported too, so pretty sure it’ll allow you to run those games like a PS4 Pro would.

I love how you start out innocent, just informing about the situation of pre-orders in Australia. A few posts later, after you post was debunked, you go full on warrior on us.

I wouldn't say debunked I was just relaying what the staff member said to me directly. Now did I check online or ask to put a pre order down to confirm what he said no, because the S is not a item of interest and didn't waste my time to because of needing to go and do other things and had limited time after already waiting 5 minutes longer to inquire about PS5 pre orders or if they knew when pre orders were opening up again

So In essense I was just quoting the what he said to me directly

Yesterday in one of the Series X videos, someone said that the removable SSD is getting very, very hot. This means that at least the data on it is not reliably and permanently stored because SSDs tend to lose data at too high temperatures.

However, I have no idea in what time frames this happens.

the person i replied to literally said it that. A "precaptured video sequence" that runs on both ps4 and ps5.

Regarding what i said to you, You dont know if its a cutscene, so its funny how you go correcting people so matter of factly out of pure speculation

So the PS5 having production issues and not coming out of assembly was, yet again, misdirection. September for their first console? If that's correct, oh boy.

I don't think it likely to be the first retail console made. More likely Microsoft making sure Famitsu got the newest model they could.

Having said that it will be interesting to see what build dates the launch consoles the public get are. If mass production really started late May or early June then I would expect the first retail consoles to be dated July giving them a month to ramp up production and iron out the kinks. If they are September or later then we'll know the May/June rumours were BS.

Godfall gameplay (no commentary)
PS5 2160p 60fps

Honestly, the game does look interesting and "pretty", but I will wait for the reviews or at least for the price to drop. I love shooter looters, soooo nturally hack and slash looters will also float my boat. Does this have any multiplayer component to it at all? I mean looting games like this are kind of pointless if you have no one to show it off to or play with.

edit: It has co-op. Yay! "Gamers will be able to either play the game solo or jump into a shared campaign with a maximum of two other players. "

My other concern is that it is gearbox. I love borderlands games...but my god to do they have issues on release.

That said, those 4-5 second loading speeds ( at the 2:47 min mark to a new boss area, which also looks like a minor glitch that they will probably fix)

I just like not having to wait ages after death.

PS: the person playing...is kind of rubbish. I mean the number of times he simply sat there to be hit with the fire tick is just...

I don't know why people like you always fail to read (or understand) my comments correctly^^

In any case, the storage cells can even withstand up to 800 degrees Celsius for a short time. But that's not the point, it's about creeping data loss at permanently too high temperatures for SSDs.

Good old "whataboutism" at play again. That shit works better on Twitter than on here.
OK man, this place here is way better than Twitter, Twitter is like a hellhole full of mostly fake people with toxic positivity & stupid stuff, you are a lot better than them, at least I'm having fun engaging with you here.
