On another note I see only concern (trolling) from Sony fans who had zero intention of getting an Xbox here. The fact is, two people thought the dissipation of heat is enough to warrant comment out of hundreds. Others have reported the opposite. Ok.

Please provide others who said the opposite that isn't hot in stand-by mode. I won't buy XSX, surely, but it's not normal to be hot in stand-by mode. If you're fine with that, ok.

I'm sorry, I don't trust a random guys translation of a french video. Words often get mistranslated, especially if they are done directly without taking context into consideration. All consoles get hot under certain conditions and the whole "legit concern" thing seems.. well, not legit.

Until we have proper measurements this is a non issue. Who the hell bases their judgement on random people on the internet using words such as "toasty" and weird translations as "VIOLENT"?
The translation is correct and very accurate to the terminology. Source: I studied French for 7 years at school (and my first language is Italian, which is overall somewhat similar to begin with). "Violent" is the exact word they used.

Of course I don't know if the people in the video themselves are exaggerating, but they are very clearly making a big deal out of it.

they just say „it’s hot“. What is this supposed to mean? How hot? How many degrees? Explain this to me:
Why would MS sent their consoles 2 MONTHS in advance to influencers if they have heating problems? Why?

No one was expecting them to sent consoles to anyone, no one would be mad at all, why would they risk it, if there are indeed heating issues?

I mean Sony is not sending out any consoles and no one is mad, so no one would be mad if MS also didn’t sent consoles, yet they did. Why would they do this, if there are heating issues?
IMHO, this is just the typical FUD. There is ZERO proof, only some fake screenshots from Xbox ONE messages and no degrees measurements. etc.

There are no heating problems. The console works fine and the cooling is good enough that it won't overheat. This is not an actual problem for the hardware, the air it lets out is just a bit toasty. Separately, I see a future where both MS and Sony go with an approach similar to what is in the PS5 currently. The drawbacks are incredibly minor for a huge upside which is firstly only using as much power as is necessary for a particular frame and being able to predict exact the power output and match the cooling accordingly. Again I stress, there are no overheating problems with the Series X, but from what we're hearing maybe the cooling isn't aggressive enough.

In Japan, Sony set up a controlled environment and allowed a few YouTube personalities to try out selective elements of the console, but most were forbidden from even touching the thing.

in a 30°C room in a basement. Come on, you can't be this blind.

I don't think it's fair to jump on MS for sending hundreds of Xbox Series X units worldwide, including to DF for a full teardown, because a few people were shocked the SSD drive dissipates heat. Especially when Sony invited professionals like this guy

ditluPk.png

YOU were not Sony's audience, I was NOT Sony's audience. The audience was Japanese people where the guy does show business. Is it cringy? It is! But I am used to other standards of entertainment. They had 2 VTubers as well as at least one Voice Actor and more "normal" people.

Point is they wanted to show the DS5 and a couple of games. They acchieved their goal. What YOU and I want is not relevant on a global level.

On another note, I see only concern (trolling) from Sony fans who had zero intention of getting an Xbox here. The fact is, two people thought the dissipation of heat is enough to warrant comment out of hundreds. Others have reported the opposite. Ok.

Shall I remind you of all the FUD and BS about PS5's heat management problem? Come on! Some on us are just taking cheap funny shots at MS. That's all.

Still taking this with a grain of salt, no offence. What is the original french quote used?

You are being disengious now, sorry there are two videos below check them out. i have not mentioned the two hour shut down thing at all, nor did the op in that thread, you are moving, stretching your argument for some reason.

That post that got shut down was not about fake screenshots, here it is.

You can see from the Op it is legit and proven conversations from people.

If the post led with the 2 hours shut down crap image i would of said yes you are 100% right shut it down, but it did not. Shutting that post down was not correct, there are legit concerns there, there is no two ways about it.

In the above podcast, Jez Corden who has an XsX, says heat dissipation/temperature is in-line with the Xbox One X, even tests it.

It's totally normal for an SSD to be hot in standby mode if it's still working. We don't know what it was doing, was it installing updates? Did it have smart delivery games queued? What about Quick Resume? These two isolated reports from unprofessional sources tell us absolutely nothing

It's quite strange that even in standby it runs really hot. Stand-by means it's really in very low power consumption, even if it is downloading something in the background. My Pro barely was warm in stand-by mode downloading something and in the same time charging gamepad.
they are talking playing bc games here
but this is not a surprise; depending on usage ssd temp alone are high

and in one way it's not that a bad thing ms cartridge come with its own form 'heatsink'.
the console need to cool two of them though :D

Why is it not good? A fan that actually removes heat from the innards of the console is supposed to be a bad thing now? I don't get it. These consoles get hot. If they aren't blowing out hot air, we could talk about "not good at all."

It sounds like it’s not removing the heat from the innards which is why the device itself is heating up.

That said it is preview hardware so may not be an issue with the final device.

Yes, Microsoft has totally spent years designing and validating a console that over heats and shuts down in just 2 hours.
well, it still is a pre production console was it not? plus, xbox360 ring a bell?

I don't believe it neither but with all the FUD fighting back and forth all news gets it's own stage. just like the "news" about overheating ps5 devkits, yield problems, and single digit TF numbers did.

The guy with the hat on the left talks about the PS5 previews from Japan and how the PS5 is supposedly not heating up, and then at 05:49:45 says:

"On a la Series X ici, et la Series X elle est CHAUDE. Elle est CHAUDE. Elle fait zero bruit mais de contre la chaleur est violente."

"We have the Series X here, and the Series X is HOT. It is HOT. It makes zero noise, but on the other hand the heat is violent."

I'm missing an adverb or similar near the end there (the "on the other hand" part) because he speaks very fast and the other guy cuts him off. A native speaker can probably give you a transcription of the quote that is 100% complete, but I think the point is very clear.

So, the issue is under STRICT NDA. It's there, Microsoft knows about it, and they are telling people NOT to talk about it.

And we have to hear people preaching us about Sony's controlled show in Japan. Gee...
That's not what he is saying. The NDA forbids them to talk about ANYTHING of the hardware. Reason for this is probably because it has to go together with their marketing campaign. Every 2 weeks they take the lit of something new, and then people can discuss it. I don't think this is because of heating issues

What do you mean by this? That those people got prototypes and there's nothing to worry about because it's not the same as actual retail consoles?

Violente can also mean high or severe. But I get why the obvious choice would be violent (since it's close to violente).

And that's running in BC mode. Not fully taking advantage of velocity architecture and RDNA2 features, those two would heat up the console even more. I am curious how this play out. Seems like the SSD does not need active cooling so the fan is not turned on. maybe they let it run hot (normal working conditions) and shield the APU from its heat and the fan only kicks in when the APU itself generates heat. that could bite them in the ass when the system is on for prolongued time.

That's the point: your 7 years of french study means absolutely nothing unless you have lived within that culture. A word by word traslation is fine, but there is more to the innuendos than just a couple of words translated. Source: my being bilingual Italian-American and attended both the Italian and American school systems with lots of Japanese students to boot. Basically a messy past :messenger_grinning_sweat:

i'm french and basically here the worry is that they can't test the console with next gen games to see how it behaves.
it's hot doing bc stuff.

LeStream : "Xbox Series X is hot"

at 05:49:45

Full quote : "I don't know if we can talk about this but, we have the Series X here and the Series X is hot, it is hot. It makes 0 noise but on the other hand it gives off heat, it's violent. I mean it's violent... yeah, yeah it's violent. You can warm up thanks to the Series X, clearly. From a sound point of view it's good but from a heat point of view, it's something."

Other one adds : "It will send out air, a small air diffuser."

Interesting note : "yeah, we're not allowed to show new generation games, disappointing."

Hmm, was the first group who said about it being hot just talking about the removable SSD or the console its self?
Are these just talking about the hot air being pushed out or...
Wonder if we'll see more reports like this and if they'll go into detail about it.

In BC mode the console is most likely running full steam. As Toadman put it:

I can imagine a scenario where BC may be more taxing on the silicon than a “proper” next generation game.

It’s similar to the situation where sometimes going to a 2D screen while playing a game makes a current gen console go crazy - the work load is just right to “fill up” the processing capacity and consume a lot of power.

Like running a simple 2D game at an uncapped framerate can make a powerful system consume a lot of power.

My understanding is that Xsex does its BC running in a virtual environment on the hardware. If that environment has some issues it may be over stressing the system more than a native next gen game would.

Yes, that's exactly what he's saying (native french speaker).

Right before that, he said that, if it's confirmed that the PS5 is cool, it is excellent news for the console, that he's unsure he should say how hot the Series X is running.

If only there channel can get taken down for spreading misinformation.

It is depressing. I was watching the latest Red Gaming Tech video this morning, a channel that is balanced and has actual insight into how the tech works and likely performance of hardware based on reason and understanding. The video had 30k views and I looked at the side panel and saw Dealer's latest FUD video was at 60k. The land of Youtube (and society as a whole) seems to be more of an idiocracy than a meritocracy 🤦‍♂️

But the games cap at 60 fps (i have not seen footage of a BC game running faster), surely a 12TF GPU can handle last gen games at more fps than that? That makes me think BC mode is not letting the APU destroy itself.

Games that run a locked 60 FPS usually runs a higher FPS 'behind the scenes'.

when some random comment under random youtube video appeared with comment that PS5 is overheating, xboxers jumped high horse and ride with it for months

and look at them now, influencers got xbox sx, testing it, and reporting that is it running hot, violent hot, and now the same xboxers downplaying it 🤡 :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: this is gold. hilarious :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And you know that?
Predictions he got right so far: zero
Prodections he got wrong so far: every single one

He jumps on every bandwagon he sees trying to act as if he knows something everybody else doesn't. A piece of information starts floating around he immediately "confirms" it to get in the spotlight, even if later on it turns out it was wrong. Even random impossible shit he finds on 4Chan sometimes, he's that desperate.

I lost count of the amount of PS games and events he teased in the Summer that never happened or were on a completely different timeline than he predicted.

EDIT: I forgot, he also immensely oversells his journalist background in the hope that non-Italian people will believe he's a big fish (and it works somehow, I've even heard RedGamingTech quote him as an actual Italian journalist). In truth he only wrote for a tiny, obscure online website (we're talking 20-clicks-per-article small) that talks about gaming and electronics in general, and on which he never published a single piece of insider information. Somehow his magical contacts in the industry only manifested after he left, apparently.
