I didn't know you were looking to rebuild, would have gave up both Puempel and Stone for Ebs.oh well.

LOL Hodgson faceoff stat at 60.

Can still use him as a Winger, I do that with my low-faceoff C's like Horak :p

I need wingers and I'd like to get younger. Willing to add picks with the vets to balance any age difference in a deal.

I'll go ahead and sim now. Starting after this sim, you'll be able to set your lines, as the season is starting :)

EDIT: DONE, that took a while, several periods.

I made a trade that the CPU accepted, so I'm posting it for judgement:

To Minnesota:

Mike Fisher (80OV)
2nd round pick

To Dallas:

Val Filppula (82OV)
4th round pick

They're both on one year deals. They're both white stars. Filppula is 3 years younger I think? The swap of picks was meant to balance it out.

Not a huge deal or anything, but I wanted to try and trade Fisher and a pick for a better 2nd line C option.

Judge away.

No, don't sim your own games. The commissioner sims them all in 2 week blocks.

Appreciate you posting this here. Good for anyone to chip in that wants to, plus it helps us draw the line on what makes sense and what doesn't.

When you're making a trade with the CPU, since we can't trust the AI to make sound decisions, you have to basically play the role of both GMs. If you were Minnesota, and you had a competitive team for the upcoming season, would you make that trade? Definitely not, right? Even if you had a team that was rebuilding, you still wouldn't make that trade.

Trading your best, reasonably priced center for a slightly worse center who is also several years older and about to decline a great deal (2.5 white stars)... in order to get a 2nd round pick that may amount to something several years from now?

The way I saw it, from Minnesota's point of view they would probably let either (Fisher or Filppula) walk after the year ends anyway. They have a TON of centers in the 77-82 range. Granlund, Stajan, Loktionov, Hanzal, and Bouma are all in that range with other guys like Hamill close.

I can see what you're saying, and I agree that I wouldn't do that deal in their situation if I didn't know that was the best available offer for Filppula. If I did, and I had that kind of center depth, though, I probably would take it.

Then don't waste time giving bogus reasons for why Minnesota would accept a trade like that!

If Minnesota is going to do anything about their center depth, they'd trade someone like Stajan for a RW.

Adding draft picks to balance a trade with the CPU is a red flag and will almost always result in trades getting canceled. Since we can't tell for sure what their long term goals are (rebuild or Cup run), it would be too easy for everybody to dump their draft picks for the CPU teams most desirable players.

There's no point to keep him up. He'd gain a lot better development playing in the AHL.

I'm going to do what an actual NHL team would do, give him a taste and see if he can handle it.....hes my 4th best centre right now but it wouldn't be hard finding a cheap mid-70s if I need to

Pretty sure Rizzle did make an offer for him. So now you're just rubbing it in.

Rizzle, you'll probably get more opportunity around the trade deadline. Every Connected season starts the same way, with everyone hoping for a Cup run and no one interested in rebuilding until halfway through the season.

Doubt I'll struggle, but Spezza will be available if things don't go my way.

If you look a year or two down the road, most of us are in that situation. Like Winnipeg. Already at the cap and will need to give Shinkaruk a $9m raise next season.

I don't think your situation is so bad. Neal is crazy overpriced, right? He'll take a cut. Some of the other guys won't ask for raises. etc

Pretty much, since we can't sign players to extensions =/

That should be a fun offseason......... I bet we end up locking the players out

You're a little more combative in this thread than the other NHL one. It's weird.

I'm sure your team will be fine. But a few of your guys will want big raises. Even with other players coming off the books, it just means you'll have less depth.

Simming now. LET THE INJURIES BEGIN.

Just about to sim, and also, Fisher is only 2.5star white now (meaning he will decline pretty badly next offseason, he's 35), while Filppula is still 4star, so he won't decline for a while. A second round pick doesn't make up for that at all ;)

Basically the Devils have a good team but two young prospects in net and are playing with a 79 as a starter.

Enroth - 27 yrs, 85 OVR, 3 years left at 7.635

Pavelski - 31 yrs, 85 OVR, 2 years left at 5.72
Cammalleri - 33 yrs, 85 OVR, 4 years left at 6.385

I would have to take something else back to even salary, probably Derek Morris since he is injured and a pending UFA. So those would be the bare minimum pieces.
