Aaron Greenberg (Xbox Marketing) said "Nobody cares about Banjo-Kazooie" at a Flight Sim event

Did Astrobot rank in the top 10 charts in the UK or not? That was your claim, right?
I should have said top 5 , sorry . The game didn't top the charts in the UK or Japan and I doubt it would have in the USA.

Those sort of games don't sell like they used too on the big boys consoles.
Because The Crew 2 was literally being given away for £1/€1 on all 3 platforms. Try harder to backpedal from your nonsense.
Please ....

But even that'd be wrong. As the game did chart in top 5 in the UK.

So 4 pages and is there evidence that this actually happened?
He posted photos in the event, and he is engaged with the Xbox brand in Spain, i really doubt he is making this to get attention, also that’s not even the main theme of the video, was just and anecdote he make.

I find it incredible that you are all arguing about something that has been said but no-one actually read the phrase a bit better, the "at a" part specifically. He wasn't saying that no-one care about banjo, he was saying that no-one cares about banjo at that specific event.

And isn't that the whole point of Game Pass? 🤔 That the game doesn't need to sell copies?

So what's the problem with them making a Banjo game for GP subscribers that doesn't sell millions of copies? 🤔

Tell that to Tango Works
So because they don't top the charts they shouldn't bother with them at all?

Who are you? Are you an executive at Microsoft or a gaming consumer? Genuine question.

That's the way AAA games work now , like we saw with Dead Space.

Rare I would imagine is too busy with Sea Of Thieves and it's new IP to bother with new Banjo.

And one doesn't need to a executive to work out there's a reason why the likes of RARE , Ubsioft, Capcom and others have largey turner their backs on AAA 3D Platform games .

A basic consumer can work it out ...

So basically you don't care about what you or other people who play games might want, it's all about siding with and defending the executives? Lovely stuff.

You've got to admit the quote has held up. Literally just a handful of games have released without a 60fps mode and we are 4 years in. And the architecture does support 120fps. 🤷‍♂️

The Crew 2 outsold Astrobot. Let that sink in
The Crew 2 cost more than Astrobot to make and would need to sell more units than Astrobot to be successful. The Crew 2 was also expected to be a long running GaaS that people didn't spend a lot of money on. Ignoring the point and comparing apples to oranges.

Aaron Greenberg + Don Mattrick were the two biggest reasons why Xbox One failed.. how he still has a job is unbeknownst to me.
They also helped the Xbox 360 and the Kinect succeed.

As punchable as Greenberg is, one off comments he makes don’t represent the value he has brought to Microsoft.

Whereas, people love Spencer for the comments he’s made but is far more responsible for what Xbox has become.

ftfy, frankly Mattrick set the One up for decent success even with the bad PR at the start

they had exclusive games and even sold well the first couple years, Spencer was the one that drove a stake in the heart of Xbox

edit: I’m not saying the One under Mattrick would have competed with the PS4 but it might have come closer to the 360 in terms of numbers than it did

So, we can accept that Astrobot is hardly a massive seller.

That's just pathetic silly rubbish.

I love to see SEGA make a new SEGA Rally game and a new Panzer Dragon 3D shooter, but I don't need to be an SEGA executive to know the market for those styles of games aren't what they were.

Nice to see some people on here who have no time for Xbox, caring about its IP. Lovely stuff

And wouldn't you prefer it if they were to make those kinds of games again? What benefits you more, new versions of those games or the capacity for them to turn one of those franchises in to the next Fortnite? It doesn't have to be an all or nothing approach.

Talking of "silly".

Has it never crossed your mind that more people would have time for Xbox if they actually cared for and utilised the IP they own?

This siege mentality is counter-intuituve and is getting you nowhere, but you're more than welcome to keep digging.

There are lot of games that I would like to see sequels to, but market reality hits home. I like to see a new AAA F-Zero, new AAA Rally, new AAA Outrun, AAA Motostorm and on its goes, but there are various good reasons why other games are being made ahead of them.

Given how well Yooka-Laylee and its sequel sold I doubt that many would rush back to Xbox for a new Banjo game.

Has it never crossed your mind that more people wouldn't have time to troll Xbox if they actually utilised the IP they own? :messenger_tongue:

They brought back a beloved platformer IP after nearly a decade and made it into a lego racing game. No shit people didn’t care. Especially after that initial teaser trailer. What a huge smack in the face that whole ordeal was.

Almost as tone deaf as Nintendo bringing back the Metroid Prime series with Federation Force after approximately the same amount of time.
Tbf that teaser trailer was telling you that it was not gonna be a straight forward platformer and that the banjo of yesterday was no more. Rewatch it.

I only remember killer instinct that xbox has done anything with from rare games. They should give or trade rare to nintendo for something they might use.

He shouldn't have said that as it's just going to piss off fans.

However, there is some truth to what he's saying. Microsoft tried bringing the series back on the 360 with Nuts and Bolts. Nobody cared and it ended up with disappointing sales.

Why would a new game in the series be any different.
Loved nuts & bolts, and glad it’s BC on the newer consoles.

You could make a puddle jumper, with working cloak 😁 game was nuts (pun intended)

Unfortunately it’s hard to go back to the N64 versions of the games, bit ruff around the edges so to speak. But if they got the “conker live and reloaded” treatment then I think I would be enticed to revisit.

Doesn’t sound like a mistranslation to me as Greenberg himself doesn’t deny saying it.

Is it really anyone else’s fault that his own that his ‘sarcasm’ isn’t funny or easily interpretable?
It's horseshit damage control. When the more popular franchise Crash Bandicoot is cancelled at ABK and the company Toys for bob split off and let go it's pretty clear they don't care much for that part of the market. Reminds me of that time when everybody was expecting a Conker and they showed him in Project Spark just to have something. They very well might release a Banjo at some point but this response is just to calm the anger for now.

For a man whose primary job is to communicate, he does seem to struggle with that aspect quite a bit.

Top comment nails it:

This is just bad taste to say this about any IP you own, no matter how small. It's like if Nintendo said nobody cares about F-zero, it may be true to some extent, but why upset fans like that?

What are F zero fans gonna do, not buy the next f zero game that doesn't exist?

Lol

Nobody in the industry should care about what Aaron Greenberg thinks. What a terrible take. Another IP bought and put away.

Wow. Reading way too much into this. Guy said it sarcastically. End of story. I mean do you never use sarcasm? Are you not british?

Hi Aaron, whats conspiracy talk about that?

The fact that they have no interest in the bigger platforming franchise shows they probably truely have even less for the less popular one. Even if it "holds a special place in their heart".

Of course, he's gonna say "oh I didn't mean it like that" or "I was joking."

After such backlash, he is not gonna come out and say, "It wasn't a joke. Banjo sucks. Nobody cares about that. There, I said it again. Fuck y'all!"
