Er, he's a Sens fan and was listing terrible GMs.Yeah no.... McGuire. It's happening. Accept it.
Kypreos doesn't know dickKypreos says Luongo to Toronto still very much in play
Seguin, Hamilton and Knight...For all the good that Burke actually DID do, his entire tenure as GM will be defined by that Kessel trade.
The Hockey Central guys are saying it has a lot to do with it.I swear- this better not be over luongo

Brian Burke to the Flames! They were looking at John Davidson and were really close..
I don't think they'd know at this stage, but are they saying Burke wanted Luongo or didn't?The Hockey Central guys are saying it has a lot to do with it.
They weren't saying either way but were speculating that the board was getting too involved for Burke's taste.I don't think they'd know at this stage, but are they saying Burke wanted Luongo or didn't?
"We would have taken him number one". Dude was full of baffling, self-serving quotes like that. I'm sure he irritated ownership at times.Holy shit, thats big news. GOOD news I think too, dude was too stubborn.

so how does everyone think this affects the coveted race for 9th place in the East?
Burke was entering the fifth year of a six-year deal, but the landscape with the Leafs ownership. and the immediate need to end seven years out of the playoffs. apparently led to an out-of-nowhere decision.
Leafs ownership changed last winter when Bell-Rogers purchased the majority shares offered up by the Teachers Pension Plan. Burke, according to rumours at the time, was told by high-ranking officials within the new ownership group that he had a year to turn things around with his struggling club.

This franchise is done. =/ What on earth does the board know about hockey. Maybe we'll get better but we're merely going to be a very profitable 1st or 2nd round exit team year in year out, with no chance at the Cup.
I'm so upset with this team. I know I should wait for details but it's infuriating to think this firing might have been motivated because the higher ups were meddling in with Burke's job.
"U MAD?"
First I've heard this from Mark Zwolinski in the star:
http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/article/1312635--maple-leafs-fire-gm-brian-burke-reports
TODAY, THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THEIR NEW GENERAL MANAGER.....................
"U MAD?"
New GM could be Rob Ford or the Ikea monkey.
Randy Carlyle must feel awfully awkward right now.
Chicago. He can't be any worse than Stan Bowman........right?Dual Pierres!
Also, I think the far more interesting question in all of this is where Burke goes next.

@wyshynski
"There must be more to this Burke firing" = "We've all heard rumors about Burke we can't report and we'll just assume they're true now."
What are the rumors?
Flyers miss playoffs this year and then fire Homer and bring in BB.
15. Toronto Marlies
I hate you Solo.
You'll also start talking and thinking about Burke more than actual hockey. You'll defend him when he's GM for four years but never acquires a good goaltender. And you may even turn your bathroom into a miniature shrine to him.Oh fuck this is what Leafs fans do.
Homer and BB are old roommates and good friends. Let them Co-GM.
