Good news, bad news.
Good news: Girardi and Del Zotto have been broken up. Girardi is back on the normal top pairing with McDonagh again. Really kind of a no brainer, considering that pairing was on the ice for ALL FIVE goals.
Bad news: No NHL team has ever come back from down 0-2 to win consecutive series in a single playoff year.
Interesting stat. Perhaps premature of me, but this really should have been a tighter series. I was expecting pretty much all games to be 1 goal games. Never thought we'd see a 5-2 lead from Boston against Hank. But then I didn't think we'd ever come back from being down 0-2 to the Caps either, so who knows. At this point I'm just looking forward to 2 games at MSG and hopefully some better performances, win or lose.
As to earlier discussion, I really think Richards needs to be bought out this off-season and I believe that will be the case due to injury risk. He can't be traded either, due to the retirement cap hit transfer. He'll sign elsewhere I'm sure, his career isn't over... but it really seems like it is in NYC, for whatever reason. I don't know if it's all him, or all circumstance, or a mix of both. I don't know if it's temporary or permanent. All I know is it's a huge risk to take for that salary and the smarter move is to run with Step/Brass, hopefully Miller, and see who else can be brought in to shore that up. I'm looking forward to this off-season. I like the core we have now and I think we can be great with a few small changes/additions.
