I don't doubt that. But Konami comes across as less of a business and more like grudge-bearing mobster dynasty (apt, considering the board is run by a single family, iirc) - and if you've watched the Jimquisition, you'll recall the horror stories about them shaming their employees.

They engage in petty acts that are just...bafflingly vindictive.

By that logic, he never should have put his games on Playstation to begin with, because none of his fans were on Playstation originally.
 
I kind of knew he'd be backed by either Sony or SE, and he has less history with the latter.

I'm glad that Sony was willing to back him without making his projects fully exclusive. I can't really name any projects I know of that ended up being better games as a result of that kind of thing, barring games like TWEWY which took advantage of systems with uncommon control schemes.
 
So is there a good chance that Kojima gets Del Toro and Junji Ito on board again for a horror game? I really want that colab to happen.

I feel like the only reason they wouldn't is if someone convinces Kojima that the first thing he needs to do, after leaving Konami, is build something that is endlessly reiterable -- like MGS. Horror games can be that (see: Silent Hill) but they aren't quite as malleable, and are still pretty niche.

Me too. Studio Japan is good and pretty big but I also don't really think they have had enough first party Japanese output, though they have done good with their frequent From and Level 5 collaborations. That stuff is part of what differentiates them and they should have expanded it.

Atleast this time they are apparently pushing harder to get development going given the rather huge amount of the Japanese titles announced this year by third parties.

Well, Del Toro has said that he doesn't want to make games anymore. His first game project was supposed to be inSane, but the publisher (THQ) went under so the game was canned. Then there was Silent Hills where then publisher shutdown the studio that was working on that. But who knows. He's also said that he still wants to work with Kojima, so it's a possibility.

At best I could see him independent and working as a second party for sony like David Cage and Quantic Dream. They have money and freedom to work on their games.

But you know, Kojima is another story.

You're mistranslating some of that Spanish (just a bit though), though, making it sound as if this were absolutely fake, rather than "probably just fake".

You translated the first one right, but people don't understand the 12/31, which was his non-compete clause, but he got angry and signed his resignation before.

It's not verified that Sony would bid for MGS, it sounds more of a speculation. He even says this in that tweet.

The last tweet says that a friend told him all of this. Must be a well connected guy, for hearing from Japan. But I suppose he made friends while making that MGS book. I still think this is fake as heck though.

He was. Del Toro tweeted some of his art (unrelated to Silent Hills) and said that Ito was collaborating with the game.

I'm not sure, but it seems it would overly broad and ultimately unenforceable to completely deny someone from making any future plans for their career.
 
Seriously, I see this as a Insomniac deal where he's basically a 2nd party that owns the IP. If the PS4 continues to shine like how it is don't be surprised if you see games like FFVIIR and Kojima's IP stay exclusive.

Hell depending on the divide the next major FF title may end up being a PS exclusive too.

PS: Oh and that Spaniard who says Sony is bidding for MGS...yeah right. Despite Konami shitting the bed the amount of profit MGS indirectly makes for them is enough of a reason alone to keep the IP.

We already know Kojima's new project isn't going to be completely exclusive. Sorry to burst your bubble.
 
Someone just fund the film that Kojima has clearly wanted to make for ages now.
Not a this game might as well be a movie shtick, but a full blown film.
The kind of nonsense in it would be amazing.

I did not mean that one version held the other back or that exclusive games are better then multiplats but that often one or more versions have some kind of issues.

But it is surely easier this time around with very close architectures for developer. However it is impossible to tell if a game would performe the same but looking at the first party flagships they almost always push graphics to the next level on consoles while having good performance. Star Wars is a good example that does not only look really good but also runs well on pretty much everything (and the foxengine is a beast as well) but many games suffer on one or another otherwise we would not have so many threads about it. Just look at the witcher 3 swamp on PS4 or CoD ghost being 720p on Xbox, AC. The list of games that get bashed for their plattform performance is huge. Sure there are exclusive games on console that not have perfect performance but IMO they in comparison performe much better.

Yeah. This is what annoys me the most.

5 years he spent on creating the engine fit for a game like MGSV, an engine that would run beautifully even on PC.

And now it's basically lost. Konami sure as hell won't use it, and Kojima can't use it because it's in Konami's hands.
 
From the sounds of it this will probably be a smaller game. Doesn't seem like there is a traditional third party publisher at this time, you would think they would be attached to the rumour if there was one. And if they aren't going full exclusive with Sony, they'll probably have their marketing paid for but not the actual development.

Probably had more to do with Nintendo ditching the CD project with Sony leading them to create the Playstation. Like final fantasy the game Kojima wanted to make was probably to big for cartridges.
 
Very nice news. I really hope he has something to show very soon. And I hope his team has something similar to Fox Engine under their sleeves.
 
The good news is that he seemingly has a bunch of people from KojiPro with him. Say what you will about MGSV, technically that game was amazing.
