Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Announced | Available Today on Console, PC, and Xbox Game Pass

Your PC might be able to run the modded NG2 Sigma from Master Collection. Black is damn good though (outside of water running and lack of aerial bow shot). Has a much more unique arsenal as well.

I'll wait until I upgrade my PC so I'll be guaranteed to have a smooth experience so for now I'll put it on my wish list.

The water running was indeed a bitch to pull off, made worse with bad camera angle.

I've started for the first time the OG NG on Series X via BC.
It hurts...I suck big time. The enemies are so fast and they gangbang you all the time. Dont have time to think what I want to do lol. Im rolling, jumping and attacking chaotically.
Stop mashing and focus on a single enemy at a time, well time heavy combos will delimb enemies pretty much every time.
Try forming the habit of using light, heavy attacks again human enemies, this will launch them in the air.
Once launch press light, light, heavy (don't mash, tap with rhythm) and watch their heads explode in an instant kill.

Next learn pressing and holding heavy right before you land from a jump, this will start charging your ultimate attack very quickly, and instantly absorbs orbs that are floating around for an instant ultimate.

Lastly get the staff, upgrade it to level 3, gg you've won the game.

The staff is the best weapon? Ive only upgraded the dragon blade thus far

Ninja Gaiden's core combat is very different to basically any other game in the genre.
it is very much dependent on deliberate and precise inputs.

like 1on1 fighting games there is a difference between neutrals and directional normals. pressing forward and light attack is different than leaving your stick neutral and pressing light attack. that's something other hack n slays/spectacle fighters/character action games usually don't do. those usually either have lock-on directional attacks or forward-forward or back-forward inputs for specific moves, but no real neutrals.
and this difference will throw people for a loop if you're only used to Bayonetta or DMC3 etc. even the dodge is a directional block+stick direction move in this, which is reminiscent of Smash Bros funnily enough.

and combos also feel different from others in the genre. combos in this need to be input without any hesitation. similar in feel to I'd say Virtua Fighter. the moment you hesitate with your combo input, you drop the combo.
in Bayonetta for example that would be very different, since that game has a more freeform combo system that gives you lots of time to decide what to press next (even to the point of letting you extend your attack timings with your guns by holding the attack buttons down)

I think the tonfa are the best weapon when you get them. Lvl 1 UT always delimbs so you can just abuse i frames with constant obliterations and UTs. Often it will delimb 2 enemies (even big pink demons) and you can then chain lvl2s over and over. It's kinda busted.

Yes, don't upgrade the sword, is gets the tier 4 upgrade for free later.
I actually forgot about that. I only upgraded it to lvl 2, but I pretty much stick with the sword for the whole run for the most part, so not a big deal.

I'm thinking of trying to do a full run with each weapon once I get it. So Sword, 1st run. Lunar, 2nd run. Claws, 3rd, etc

iirc NG2 has achievements for that, not sure if black does.

It's not really that difficult no, ninja gaiden essentially runs on fighting game logic so it's more about proper spacing and blocking so you can kill anything in one combo; the staff is also super good and you can have it fully upgraded by chapter two.
Once you master on land ultimate techniques, the game becomes a cake walk tbh.
That's the feeling I got as well.(It's like playing a game like Tekken, VF, or Soul Calibur except not 1 on 1 but adventure game.) I mean once I understood things like you can't instantly go into a block part way through an attack(like a fighting game) the game made way more sense to me.

The strategies vary with preferred weapon. Get the Windmill shuriken by using wall running in alley by bar and Izuna Drop scroll from Muramasa statue by monastery to help with spacing. Counter attack scroll also helps and is available for purchase in the intro area before horsemen if I remember correctly.

Reached Chapter 8, will continue tomorrow. I am enjoying it.

This is really my first time playing NG2 so far into the game. I had tried the older games but couldn't stand with the various BS all over the place. Annoying platforming, absurd bosses, inventory with keys and shit. You don't need this in an action game. It is a waste of time, and you can be sure it will get even more annoying in subsequent playthroughs.

My feeling is that they have probably addressed a ton of this as the pacing is pretty good. You still get some big/huge areas that are absolute BS. Like when you reach the underground water temple. Abysmal experience. You swim or walk on water to find stuff, you keep mashing A, there is nothing of interest, you eventually understand where to go, these shitty flying fishes are annoying and not fun in any way. Big bosses too. Can't say they are great. The flying thing in Chapter 3 was pretty garbage, and the water dragon just as uninteresting.

But when you take out all these missteps, you do find a very solid game and gameplay. It would be a better game without all of this. Not going to beat Razor's Edge, that game was amazing, intense, excellent gameplay, no BS and wasting your time with useless stuff. Also RE had one hidden challenge per stage and these were pretty hard, and a welcome addition ! Couldn't find any of this here. The skulls don't seem to do anything.

Game is also pretty easy in the normal difficulty, and does seem a bit unbalanced. Will probably try harder difficulty some day. Looking forward to unlocking some other characters and a Chapters mode like in RE, so I can play and automatically skip all cutscenes etc...

Despite the critics (I might come out as not highly satisfied or whatever), don't get me wrong. Team Ninja are the absolute best at action games in my opinion, their games are simply leagues ahead all other games I have played in the genre. They simply know how to make the best action gameplay out there. I am sad that they gave up on their engine, I consider this a huge loss though. Their in-house engine simply seemed much lighter and consistent. Here with UE, there isn't a single cutscene that didn't have some shit poping in or whatever.

Were we playing the same game where Ryu was QTE climbing walls and slowly gliding between warships every other minute to fight the same enemies and destroy cannons ad nauseum? Where one of the bosses was an attack helicopter that kept throwing Ryu off (despite him being able to comfortably stand on a jet doing barrel rolls)? Or one where the boss is a transformer going between aerial bombing and homing wheel of death modes? Or sequences running from dinosaurs and military equipment despite Ryu being able to dispatch demon gods and swim in lava?

What an awesome stage :messenger_sunglasses:

Climbing a wall or gliding is literally a few seconds of your stage.

You waste more time swimming in a single stage here than climbing in the entirety of RE.

Why swim when I can run on water or do drill motion with claws? 🤣

I couldn't even finish NG3 RE. It just didn't feel like a NG game to me. I'm fairly sure I stopped somewhere in the city and didn't have any desire to play on.
I need to find wherever I put it and maybe give it another shot before NG4 releases.

It sucks overall. Cool skull challenges and Ayane sections though. Unfortunately, the image quality and lighting is busted as is the design of every level trudged through by Ryu. Same applies to most bosses.

Did a little test to see if I could stream both games at the same time.
Not the best showing, was literally lost at the start of it, but it does show the sigma changes to the boss vs the original, I completely forgot how to fight him though so he took all my healing items, not a big deal since I'm rich in the original and can just buy it all back.
Honestly I'd say here both bosses suck, the chapter 5 boss is almost as shitty as the chapter 3 boss, but here the changes went a bit too far and made it too easy, I guess they had no idea how to fix the inherent shittiness of the boss

The actual boss starts around 9 minutes in and I switch to NG2 about 12 minutes in, unfortunately console streaming to twitch is limited to 1080p/30 and the bitrate isn't the best.

I'm a tourist.

I'm playing on normal and it seems really easy. I'm not very good at these types of games and I'm waltzing through. I can tell the bosses want to teach me something but I win on a lucky shot before I learn lol. What's the meta here? Should I just start over on hard or what?

Watching you fight the water dragon in the original is painful. You barely hit its weak point (head), get hit by every attack, and engage in playing Marco Polo with it instead of fighting it like a ninja.

Ok I'm total clueless when it comes to Ninja Gaiden games. I understand that this game is Ninja Gaiden 2 with UE5 engine right?

So where is the first and third one with UE5 engine? Or will they come? And now that this "remake" came, older version of NG2 become surplus?

Playing on Warrior (hard) and it's not too bad. Died a few times to the bosses, but I also refuse to use any healing items during their fight.
I know Mentor significantly boosts how much health you lose on hits as well as having additional enemy types.

Maybe give it a go at one of the harder difficulties to see if it's still easy.

No UE5 NG titles other than this one has released.

If on Xbox, you can get the OG Ninja Gaiden Black right now for $5 (50%) off. I'd argue it's the best of all the releases so far.
NG3 is a low mark of the series imo.

I think the old NG2 is still the best, but only if you have access to a One X or Series console. I could buy the mission pack too, back in 2020.

2 Black is indeed an UE5 port and it does make Sigma 2 redundant since its more based on that game, but much better.

That fight is actually quite good in the original, but many probably don't understand it. Its the one fight where you need to water run and combo its head, dies rather quickly this way too. With the claws Ryu is like Jesus, fighting on water without sinking.

Its way worse in Sigma 2, since you are locked on this small platform and all you can do is spam cannon or bow while moving in a 4x4 space.

I started one on hard and the normal enemies felt a little more like I thought they should. The first boss was significantly tougher, though.

"I consider Sigma 2 to be a worst experience"

at this point I propose to exile every person who mixes up worse and worst.

"could of" ... "would of" and that whole shit was already bad enough, but this is driving me truly insane.

edit: 6:45 "pretty much the worse film grain"

he did it twice... in both directions... I'm speechless.
exile isn't enough, bring crucifixion back!

edit 2: 10:45 "make it a worse experience"

why does he suddenly use the correct word here? the fuck?

I feel the same whenever someone uses loose instead of lose.

spelling errors (especially in the age of touchscreens and autocorrect) are far less offensive to me. Or at least in that specific case one could assume a spelling error.

but mixing up the comparative and superlative form of a word? And spoken nonetheless!
that's like a nail on a chalkboard to me ☠️

Both original games (NG Black and NGII) are BC and can be purchased on the xbox store. You can even buy the original discs and play them on your xbox. They are enhanced and run at 4k/60 (with a bit of upscaling).

This is the best way to experience the original games.

All other versions incl. the new NGII black are made by a different development team and changed a lot of content and graphics.

The original black on unreal 5 with updated UI in 4K is a must.

No, I prefer the proprietary engine. The game is more responsive. NG2 original is really good enough as is. The UI is fine too, I prefer it. The pause menu might be worse and 4:3, but you don't need it much.

Its not like the x-enhanced version looks that much worse than this new game.

I actually prefer it, the font looks less lifeless. Today many games use the same boring interface, FFVII R did the same.

Damn I dumped a lot of time into this game today. I tried some version back in the day, didn't make too much of an impression. It's always spoken of so highly though that I wanted to try it again and this was the perfect time.

I'm not sure how much I'll like it until I play a bunch more. A bunch. The fighting is pretty subtle and there's so many weapons while I've been focusing on practice with just one. Meanwhile, I'm still mashing a lot and progressing on lucky wins.

This game would actually take more time than I got for it if I wanted to get the most out of it. You'd definitely want to play at higher difficulties. The same can be said if DMC though, so whatever.

Anyway, I can now see what people like about it at least. The fundamentals, at least to me, appear to be master class. The gameplay is, within the genre, quite different from a DMC or mgr.

Might sound funny but if there's one thing that really lets the game down, it's the characters. Doa had a similar issue, and virtual fighter as well. The characters are dull.

^^^ this kid's got spunk.

And besides, ninja garden pretty much invented cinematic cut scenes. If I'm not going to commit to the game for multiple plays, this stuff matters.

Most important thing is it had me coming back over and over.
